Big price increases?

Anyone else seen this chatter about massive price increases announced for MJ (to pharmacies) in the last hour or so?

Very concerning as it looks like it could double the cost of some of the doses. I'll try to find the copy of the letter sent out...

@TheRealGoose yes this is corporate greed at its finest. The fact they’ve capped orders for suppliers so there can be no mass ordering at the lower price tells you this is on them and not them being forced into it. As otherwise they’d be trying to help.

Thanks to all the wonderful people on this thread who have helped me not panic.
The rest of you (you know who you are) can fuck right off.

You don’t need a personal trainer to have a healthy lifestyle though.

People are being very rude and nasty to @TheQuirkyMakerbut from what I’ve read, there are an awful lot of GPs who agree with her and who don’t believe that weight loss jabs are the answer. Just one example:

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/jun/26/nhs-gp-weight-loss-jabs-quick-fix-obesity-better-food

If the skeptics are proven wrong, and weight loss jabs become a roaring success for the NHS, then I image that they will be rolled out more widely in years to come, but at the moment, a lot of doctors still believe that weight should be lost the old fashioned way

To be honest I do agree with this per se and not quick fixes. Everything in moderation, and things used off label for other things do concern me somewhat, having been through hell after being prescribed an off label antipsychotic that injured me permanently and gave me a movement disorder.

I had great success using a low carb diet to lose weight and control gestational diabetes but it was pretty dull and I think if I had been on it long term, I know my love of puddings anf chocolate would have eventually been too strong to resist 😅😬

My obstetrics consultant was pretty impressed that I managed so well controlling blood sugar and weight using diet alone, but now I'm perimenopausal I find losing weight so much harder. I can see why people use the medication to help as it is depressing getting fatter while being hungry yet knowing if you eat more, you'll keep putting on weight.

What people don't seem to realise is stockpiling is just increasing the problem NOT helping 🙄
Understand its a shock, and a worry but come on think with logic

What difference does me ordering a couple of extra pens make here?

I have ordered from 2 different suppliers this week, once before the news and then made another order after. I will probably try to order a 3rd but need to look into whether or not I can juggle the bill money about first.

me ordering isn’t going to change anything other than I will pay less for my medication than I would next month. Show me a human who wouldn’t save money if and when they could.

usedtobeaylis · 15/08/2025 11:12

The price rises are the issue and I think we should focus on that and not start pointing fingers at each other tbh. Probably a vain hope but the absolute panic and fear is pretty clear. It's not on a par with panic buying pasta imo, people are panicking about their health.

Honestly, with potentially hundreds of pounds to be saved by doing this, I don’t think we can blame anyone when it’s been both allowed and in some cases promoted by the supplier. My husband ordered 3 as I was able to tell him before it all kicked off. It’ll potentially save us £200+ and there are limits to how magnanimous I am when it involves such large sums of money!

Exactly. I’m not going to apologise for it.

Obviously those of us who were able to buy 2/3 pens yesterday have rinsed the existing stock so others who couldn't afford it or didn't know in time won't be able to get their pens before the price hike/before they need the next one. I bought 3 pens because I had the money available and I wanted to save the extra £280 that I might have paid on the extra 2 if I'd waited. Yes it's self interested behaviour and will impact on others. I'm sorry for that but it's not my fault the drug company hiked the prices and I'm not volunteering to spend £280 so someone else can have their medication :( selfish but it is what it is. But don't deny your choice impacted on other people because it did.

They're often said to be one of the more expensive but, personally, I've never understood that. Whenever I've priced checked againt 'the list' they've typically been around 6-8th down the list from cheapest to most expensive - so it's never seemed that bad to me. Not worth swapping to save £15-25ish on a pen.

But their quote of £320/30 is far higher that Medicine Marketplace's quote of £275ish for the 15mg. At that difference, I may have to move...

This is my feeling too. I'm happy with Oushk and would like to stay. But not if I have to pay way high prices. I'm also looking at MMP. They are always competitive and they seem to have a good policy towards maintenance too. So I will be watching this carefully.

MaloryJones · 15/08/2025 11:24

Pedallleur · 14/08/2025 15:26

they now have a market that is relying on this product. Once you are hooked the prices will be raised.

Absolutely this ^

MiniCooperLover · 15/08/2025 11:25

Juniper (never that cheap anyway) have sent a very vague email saying they'll honour the existing price for my September order but won't be able to update future prices until the 1st September for moving forward orders.

They're already £229, I can't just justify going above £250 to be honest.

ymemanresu · 15/08/2025 11:26

Can you buy mounjaro from a pharmacy on the high street if you have evidence of your previous prescription and ID?

You appear to be under the misapprehension that Mounjaro is being used off label for obesity. No, it’s licensed for obesity.

All these smug posters who are not on WLI thinking they are adding their insightful, nuanced take, and none of you even understand the basics.

I just can’t comprehend going onto a thread on a board for a topic that I have no experience or investment in, but giving them my ill-informed thoughts anyway. In the middle of a very difficult time for them. So odd.

KrankyKumquat · 15/08/2025 11:28

@IsItSnowing
In terms of maintenance, Oushk have generated a lot of long term loyalty with their 15% discount and free P&P. This is going, in all likelihood, so nothing to stop patients shopping around - why bother tying yourself to a plan when you don't get a benefit for it? I've been with them over a year but won't stay if their prices are several £s more than a competitor, on top of the extra £40 for a 2.5mg pen.

I'm not a smug poster. And I am allowed to give my opinion. It's a free country.

Even if it's licenced for obesity, do they know the long term effects of it? What are the implications of suddenly stopping if you can't afford to keep taking it?

Strider55 · 15/08/2025 11:31

@BabyCatFace where can you order multiple pens from? My most recent provider who I ordered from last week only allow you to order 1 at a time

And people are, in turn, allowed to give their opinion on exactly what kind of individual exercises their right to post in the way that you are. Works both ways.

I’m on the 15mg and it works well for me.
so devastated by the news
Im hoping they manage to make deals with the Eli Lilly to make prices more competitive still.
i used to use saxenda years ago but it didn’t work well
only MJ has.
Does anyone know if the highest dose of wegovy is good as MJ?

@eliayd A higher dose of Wegovy (7.2mg) has been approved for use, which shows weight loss results almost as good as high dose MJ (20.7% compared to 22.5%). I’ll certainly be considering switching drugs if the cost of MJ becomes prohibitive. Might be worth giving it a try?!

Oushk and others were encouraging multiple orders yesterday but that's over now as they have sold out more or less

This hasn’t been approved in Europe and the UK yet.

There is no shortage of 2.5mg so I’m not sure it has?

Anyway that wasn’t really my point. The poster was saying this behaviour is increasing the problem- it’s not. It’s given a different issue of there are shortages but it has no bearing on the actual problem of the hikes.
