I feel a bit in limbo. Six weeks in and after an initial whoosh I've lost about 12lbs in total.
I've realistically been gaining weight over the last twelve years after hitting 40 so it took awhile to go from a size 12 to a 20 I have no idea why I expected to snap back to the size I was a decade ago in six weeks.
Found a clothes stash of the nicest things from six years ago and I'm no where near getting in them yet! But in my head I just never put on that much weight how did I get so physically big.

Anyway, onwards and upwards, I'm hoping this will be the last summer with chub run shorts and it's going to come off quicker even if it takes six years than it went on in 12.

Curvyandstrongblondie · 15/05/2025 11:08

Week 5 day four today and 22lb lost, my target was 11 stone and I’m 11 stone 13 now. 11 stone is the top of my BMI but I’m already a size 10 now and I lift weights and genuinely don’t think I would suit any smaller. This is the 2nd week on 5mg. The suppression is extremely high so I definitely couldn’t go up any further.
I also have to accept that I can only ever eat 2 medium sized meals per day or one big one for the rest of my life to keep this weight off if I want to allow alcohol and some treats and go out for meals at weekends, which I do.
My portion sizes were way too big.
once I stop this I will try to maintain myself by using my TDEE and cutting 500 cals per day off it to allow for fun at weekends. It’s amazing how little we can actually eat at this age because I never had takeaways, or unhealthy food, am vegetarian and only ever ate 2 meals a day at most and still managed to gain 22lb even with exercise!
I will weigh again on Saturday which Is weigh day but I knew I had lost this morning so decided on a sneaky one.
good luck everyone for the rest of the week

Ridiculously emotional got off the phone an hour ago to get blood tests results for tumour markers which are all normal which means I am officially discharged from the Royal Marsden.

Part of the reason I started the jab when I did was I knew if these blood results were clear I would be discharged and I worried about my weight (and higher risk of weight related cancer) being so high with no more monitoring.
but at 22lb down I hope my risk is starting to drop and will be lower obviously when I finally reach a healthy weight.

I have not stopped crying since I got the news partly I think from relief but also the main person I wanted to tell who would be the happiest is my mum and I can’t. 👼

DrMonjo · 15/05/2025 12:16

Group hug for @Squiffy01 , we're all happy for you and you know how your mum would feel so lean into that. Have a good cry!

@wordywitch and @Incognitoburrito88 I think many 'diets' result in rebound weight because the person treats it as a temporary change rather than a lifetime change to the way they eat.

We've changed our plate and bowl size in order to permanently reduce portions (my issue, portions have gradually gone up over time).

I accept that I'll eat 2 meals a day now for ever, or occasionally one on those big meal days.

I also accept that at times I'll relax and eat and or drink a bit more, such as on holiday. But I'll tighten my belt and nuckle down afterwards to get it off.

Worst case I'll stay on a low dose if I need it. I've been in maintenance for 6 weeks now, taking 2.5mg and am fairly stable (lost 1.2lb in that time).

I think stability for at least 6 months is essential to allow the body to accept the new normal and not try to rapidly regain. That's my personal theory, so I'm testing it 😊 good luck

I agree with you. Weighing myself every day is essential for me. Whenever I’ve put weight on in the past it’s when I’ve stopped stepping on the scales each morning.
I think I’m about 7lb away from my goal weight now. For what it’s worth this is what I think I’m going to do for maintenance. Fingers crossed it will work! Anyone who has successfully done this please chip in!
I think it’s important to change your body’s weight “set point” which means maintaining your goal weight for six months or more. So I’m going to gradually lower my Mounjaro dose over a few months and lengthen the time between doses. I’m going to stockpile a couple of higher dose pens because I’m not sure at which point providers may consider you “done” and require you to start the process all over again. 😬 I really don’t want to have to reach 12stone again to get a new prescription.
I’m going to reintroduce a fasting regime as I lower my doses, with one or two 36 hr fasts a week. This won’t be easy without hunger suppression, so I need to get into the habit once I’ve reached GW. This is the most daunting aspect for me, but I know it works.
I’m also going to maintain at least 4-5 exercise sessions a week plus daily dog walking.
The trouble is all this is easy at the moment as im super motivated and really not bothered by alcohol or chocolate. I know im going to have to maintain healthy habits for less reward going forwards which is quite daunting!

Crikeyalmighty · 15/05/2025 12:38

@Squiffy01 that’s such good news x

StrikeForever · 15/05/2025 13:09

wordywitch · 15/05/2025 07:55

It seems like every day now there is a contradictory article in the news about WLIs. Yesterday it was a study saying that most people gain back all the weight they lost within a year if they stopped the medication altogether. I might have to stop looking at the news as it’s making me anxious! 😬

I think we need to bear in mind that this is consistent with what has always been the case with ‘diets’. Most people who have lost weight with all weight loss programs have regained it. If we start eating lots of food, especially ultra processed food as we did when we gained weight previously, we will regain the weight. Fortunately, we have our Mounjaro as a maintenance measure, to help us with that. I’m hoping if I take a dose every couple of weeks, that might do the job.

Bigfatsunandclouds · 15/05/2025 13:21

Incognitoburrito88 · 15/05/2025 09:28

I agree to some extent although when I did Fast800 a couple of years ago I was convinced that was me for life. I was so evangelical - time restricted eating, very little UPF, low ish carb, small portions etc - I did maintain for a while and it took me a full 2 yrs to regain everything but my problem is emotional / comfort eating and I had gained a stone over the last six months because of a difficult life event we’re going through. At the moment I’m not resilient enough to keep the weight off on my own but maybe with therapy I will be able to change. Everyone is different though and I fully believe that not everyone will need WLI long term - for some people it will just be changing habits and re-educating themselves.

I think until I can get medication for my ADHD I don't think I'll come off as I know I'll fall back into my bad habits very easily, the self loathing spiral will start again. I don't mind though, this lessons that noise and I can afford it so it's life changing for me.

I think many people just need the jump start of it and reeducate but I'm hoping it's going to get easier for those who have come off to go back on to avoid becoming obese again. That means allowing people of lower BMI if they have been obese previously to be given prescriptions easily.

I did my first step up to 3.75 on my 5mg pen yesterday and I'm really gassy today which I haven't had before. Not sure how I feel about going to full 5mg dose next week.

Is anyone else doing 3.75? But I haven't lost any weight for the last two weeks so I guess I need to balance fear of side effects with the weight loss?

How many clicks is 3.75? That’s what I’m going to take this week. Thanks

RhaenysRocks · 15/05/2025 15:32

Hit my one stone today so v v happy. Jab 8 tomorrow so that's an even 2lb a week. 😄

Doidontimmm · 15/05/2025 15:34

@RhaenysRocks snap - exactly the same!

45 clicks from the table up thread. I felt fine Tuesday but had lots of sulphur burps that was really weird, wind and the runs all last night. Hardly any sleep and now I'm exhausted and too scared to eat today.

I had a bagel for lunch so I hope I don't regret that! I'm going to do 3.75 next week and see how that goes. Definitely not trying 5mg just yet. On plus side I have now lost my first stone but the last few pounds are for all the wrong reasons.

Weird as my only side effects on 2.5 was heartburn.

QS90 · 15/05/2025 16:38

That's amazing news @Squiffy01 ! You have done an amazing thing, taking control and being so proactive. I'm sure your mum would have loved that you are taking care of yourself x

Almost 8 weeks in, and 21.5 lbs down.

Unexpected sort-of-NSV today - went on the slide at my local soft play, and my rear now fits (albeit snugly). Was able to slide down the usual way, rather that sort of sideways 😂

Still not really hungry, but started feeling faint and giddy a couple of times this week just gone, so have upped my calories today. Previously, I'd been having 1000 / 1200 most days since starting 5mg. Didn't think this was too crazy, but obviously sustained over this many weeks, my body had been starting to struggle.

That’s amazing!!!!! Well done you !!!!! I’m on my second month of 2.5 with one and a half weeks to Hugo but realise I do need to increase next time. Would you mind me asking if you went directly from 2.5 to 5 or did you do around 3.75 before 5?

SparklyGlitterballs · 15/05/2025 17:00

Well done everyone on your weight losses, big or small.

PinkCatInATree · 15/05/2025 17:40

I know i am a fierce advocate of not commenting on a person's body or size but week 5 here and on Tuesday one of our friends stopped my husband to say he was looking much fitter and stronger. He is 6'2 and 12stones and eats like a horse. Ho hum.

Zireael · 15/05/2025 19:38

W4D7 Weigh in and jab day for me too. Lost 2.5lbs bring my total to 14.3lbs which I am delighted with.

I took the golden dose from my first pen, I was a bit nervous drawing it up but managed to empty what was left in the pen, about 0.8ml and managed to inject just fine.

SquishyQuokka · 15/05/2025 20:04

Today I took my 6th jab, and it’s the 2nd week on 5mg. Only side effect I appear to have is a period! I’m on the contraceptive implant and not had a period for 6 years, and so it came as a bit of a surprise a couple of days after my first 5mg dose. Hoping the second dose doesn’t prolong the blooming thing!

On a positive note, I’ve finally lost a stone. I’m so happy. Clothes are fitting far better :)

SW: 79.9kg
CW: 72.9kg
Lost: 7kg

Weekly Losses…
W1: -2.7kg
W2: -1.1 kg
W3: -0.1kg
W4: -1kg
W5: -2.1kg

QS90 · 15/05/2025 20:14

@MissCreative I've been lucky (touch wood!) with no side effects. I did 5 weeks of 2.5mg, including the bonus dose. Actually thinking about it, I didn't measure the bonus dose, so potentially could have been slightly higher that last week. Not sure.

Week 6, I went straight to 5mg dose, from the 5mg pen. No regrets, suppression has been really good. Obviously I might not be saying that, if I were one of the unlucky ones with bad nausea or whatever though.

Well done everyone!

W6 day 1 and I’m part of the Thursday crew but no weigh in today as I’m away with work. Will do it tomorrow but a sneaky weigh in on Monday and I was under 12stone. Slightly worried I’ll put on because of eating out but will see tomorrow.

ive done my first 3.75 today by counting clicks. I’ve been pleased with the losses on 2.5 but I’m hoping this will give some extra oooomph!

fox919 · 15/05/2025 21:15

Evening everyone, thanks for all the exercise recommendations 😊 and well done for losses (and effort!)

w6d3 for me. Struggled with a bit of food noise yesterday, today has been very different. No food noise and I didn’t realise until after I’d had dinner how little I’ve actually eaten today. I haven’t been tracking calories recently and was curious how low my calories were today because I knew I hadn’t had much so I checked and I’ve only had around 700 I think. Part of me feels like I shouldn’t be quite so low, but then I also think well I don’t want to make myself eat when I don’t want to because it seems silly to not lean into it, especially if I’m not showing any signs of having eaten too little (e.g lightheaded).

I’m a bit torn between counting calories and not counting calories. I do feel like I can be a bit unhealthy with it (sometimes aiming to be as low as I can), but then I’ve found that since I’ve stopped counting I’ve not been as consistent with good food choices.. thoughts?
