Hello! Is anyone starting or recently started with Shemed? I think there's a few of us on the boards. I started posting on a different thread when I was looking into MJ but thought it would be nice for us to have somewhere to share our experiences of the journey!

I'm Fatsia. My bmi is huge (22 stone with 11 stone to lose ideally. I'd be happy with less!). I put on a lot of weight after having kids and have tried all the usual things to lose it each time gaining more. We don't have a high income so it's taken some thinking before getting to this place and I'm really hopeful reading others stories of where this can lead. I. Really do want to experience the world in a slimmer body again.

I did the blood test today - stressed out this morning at the app was overloaded with so many starting on 2nd of Jan but the actual experience was great. I'm a bit needle phobic so it was great to have the little device to do the test.

Love to hear from any others interested in sharing experiences.

(Anyone wanting to debate SheMed as a company there are other threads where that is happening)

Just jumping over here to get a place on this thread! 👋 I think having somewhere to share experiences and potentially keep each other motivated is a great idea 😊

My BMI is also huge. Currently 21 stone 7lbs (didn’t appreciate that reality check on the call with SheMed today ha 😂). Aiming to get to 12 stone 7 in the long run but trying to break it down into more manageable chunks day to day as that seems really daunting when I think about it! I have PCOS so really struggle with losing weight but hoping this could be a game changer to get me on track, I’m pretty miserable with my weight and how I look right now which impacts on my mental health and pretty much all aspects of my life so I’m really keen to make some positive changes this year

I also thought the blood test was great- didn’t feel a thing which I was surprised about!

TheGladLilacDuck · 02/01/2025 19:38

Hey!

I ordered yesterday so haven't done the blood test yet but keen to chime in and get support along this journey!

I have struggled with my weight ever since I can remember and after having my daughter it spiralled. Hoping this can give me the chance to get my confidence back!

Looking forward to hearing more about everyone's journey and experiences!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 02/01/2025 19:44

@Lotusbug great to see you and yes looks like we have similar journeys ahead. I am limited in my mobility which was initially die to ME/cfs but is 100 times worse due to weight.

I was so surprised with the blood test. I had my husband there as I was expecting to struggle actually doing it but I couldn't feel it at all. Enough that when the blood didn't flow immediately I thought I hadn't done it right!

@TheGladLilacDuck Having kids made mine so much worse. Im awaiting assessment for ND and I think I just found throwing kids into the mix left me overwhelmed. I'm hoping this will help.

I've been reading Chris V T book and listening to the recent lectures and keen to reduce Upfs too. I find planning and cooking had when I "want it now" after work or when kids are being difficult but hoping this will help me have space to be organised too.

Meeee! Still waiting on the blood test, although the app says it's been sent.

I'm about 14 stone, am short and carry it badly. I've been overweight my entire adult life, although have been down and up in that time with various crappy diets that never stuck. Now, I've got some other symptoms that studies suggest might be alleviated by these jabs so I'm going to try killing a few birds with one stone! Keen to get going now I'm made the decision, as I've been skirting around it for about six months. If I'd done it then, I'd probably be nearly there now!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 02/01/2025 20:30

It took me ages to decide to do this and now yes I wish I'd done it months ago.

I hope the blood test arrives soon. It really was so straightforward. You need to fast for 6 hours and have ID but they talk you through it.

The money is a huge issue to us but I think at my weight this is threatening my health and quality of life. I had hoped the NHS route might be an option but that's streering towards bariatric surgery and I'm hoping to avoid that now.

Good luck to you all!
I'm not with SheMed, but I've been on MJ for many months. It really works.

I hope you don't mind me joining the thread, just to see how you get on.

Shmallow · 02/01/2025 21:32

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden it's really is expensive and that's always put me off, but fingers crossed you can make it work and it'll definitely be worth it because the overall health improvements will make life easier. At least you know the higher dosage won't be charged more, so you have clarity over what you'll be paying for a year. I think in time these jabs are going to be lower in price anyway, there are more available and they're being licensed for different uses. They seem to be working for so many things.

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne glad to hear it's working for you!

DIYMum · 02/01/2025 22:40

I received my blood test kit and was about to complete but on checking Q&A’s on the APP it says only eligible if I have a GP in England or Wales - I’m in Scotland!
Absolutely gutted as have dithered about committing to this for ages. Don’t think I could afford other providers.
Back to the drawing board 😢

Oh no! I'd contact them and see if you can get your money back. They must have realised they're posting to Scotland???

But yes can imagine how you feel. I still don't know until the results I'm accepted and did startt thinking what would we do now if it doesn't work out. The alternative is so expensive in comparison!

Good luck whatever you do x

My sample has been delivered (there was a Royal mail tracking number) early this morning. I keep mindlessly checking the app to see if they've done it. Which I know is a bit premature as they said 2-3 working days!

I think I've got so much riding on it I just want to start. My mum rang and I haven't told her (complicated relationship) but it feels like my biggest bit of "news"!

OP posts:
Lotusbug · 03/01/2025 14:03

So has mine @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden (at 5:50am 😂) I keep checking the app too. I’m very impatient and just want to start now. I’m also a little worried the blood results will rule me out somehow even though I’ve never had any problems bloods wise before!

I haven’t told anyone in real life, I feel like people will judge me because using these kind of medications seems to be so controversial so it’s nice to have this thread to post on 😊

Shmallow · 03/01/2025 14:10

Still no blood test here and the app support took an hour to reply by which time I had taken the kids swimming! Super busy time of year I guess.

@Lotusbug I'm still undecided about who I'll tell but thinking about it now.. OH knows, he's the one that's read so much about them and is interested in the things it helps so he's totally on board which is great. I imagine if it works I'll just be honest with anyone who asks. I not sure I'll give a stuff what they think, I'm not doing it for their approval!

Lotusbug · 03/01/2025 14:23

You’re absolutely right @Shmallow I need to just not give a stuff what people think.

Hopefully you get the blood test sorted soon! I saw something on Facebook that they had extended the offer to the end of January so I bet they have an influx of people signing up post Christmas

Shmallow · 03/01/2025 14:32

I'm sure that's it - when I got the app on the 28th/29th it showed 500 downloads on the google store, now it's showing over a thousand.

Hopefully I'll practise what I preach 😂 I do find the negativity around it so weird though. It's not lazy, it still takes work, it's just a helping hand and minus the ever-changing rules and weird language of a 'traditional' diet group (who must be quaking right now!).

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 03/01/2025 15:19

I only told DH and our DC.
I haven't told my GP either.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 03/01/2025 15:26

I've only told husband and kids too but I suspect kids might leak it (I've not told them it's a secret as I don't want them to think it's shameful) so it's not impossible my school mum friends might find out.

I don't want to hide it but I kind of want to have lost a lot before I'm open about it. Not quite sure why. I just feel such a failure anyway and hate feeling judged.

OP posts:
Shmallow · 03/01/2025 15:33

I can totally get not telling people before it has taken much of an effect as then you have to deal with the weight of their expectation too. There's so much in the press that they may expect quick losses that are visible, which wouldn't feel great if they start asking about it.

KrankyKumquat · 03/01/2025 15:41

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden
I'm now in maintenance so all this is completely irrelevant for me but I've somehow become very invested in your progress with Shemed 😅. Hope it all goes well for you and the others on here who are starting out with them.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 03/01/2025 15:43

@KrankyKumquat Thanks for the support 😁. I'm not sure I have supportive friends irl so much appreciated!

And wow well done for getting to maintenance. How long did it take and how was it and will you stay in it longer term so you think??,🎉🎉

Ahh, finally got on live chat and they say it'll be sent Monday for delivery Tuesday.

KrankyKumquat · 03/01/2025 15:57

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden
Ha, ha. Yes very few of us have a support network IRL, just my OH knows.
So, to answer your questions...started early May, lost 5st by November. Finished at BMI 21 something on 10mg, now slowly titrating down about 1mg a week so back to 5mg now. Intend to stay on very long term, hopefully at sub-2.5mg, due to my age and additional health benefits - alcohol use, heart, T2D and dementia especially due to family history. No significant side effects (except v.low BP and a bit of a flat mood) and lost every week pretty much without fail. I was a super responder from 1st 24hrs so don't take my story as typical though!

Wow that's fantastic! Well done! That's amazing to be done and dusted like that. Great re side effects and I think I'm likely to want to stay in it for a good while after if I can financially too.
