Hello! Is anyone starting or recently started with Shemed? I think there's a few of us on the boards. I started posting on a different thread when I was looking into MJ but thought it would be nice for us to have somewhere to share our experiences of the journey!

I'm Fatsia. My bmi is huge (22 stone with 11 stone to lose ideally. I'd be happy with less!). I put on a lot of weight after having kids and have tried all the usual things to lose it each time gaining more. We don't have a high income so it's taken some thinking before getting to this place and I'm really hopeful reading others stories of where this can lead. I. Really do want to experience the world in a slimmer body again.

I did the blood test today - stressed out this morning at the app was overloaded with so many starting on 2nd of Jan but the actual experience was great. I'm a bit needle phobic so it was great to have the little device to do the test.

Love to hear from any others interested in sharing experiences.

(Anyone wanting to debate SheMed as a company there are other threads where that is happening)

Yes its definitely a well planned route. Apart from my panic on the 2nd re the blood test fasting I've been impressed so far

Oh wow, I can't wait to see what happens when y'all finally get your hands on your Mounjaro.
🤣

I'd be SO impatient, too.

Lotusbug · 04/01/2025 18:50

Weirdly after all the faff with fasting, my results say “non fasting sample” 😂

I’m also hoping to start this month - did the blood test on the 3rd after I couldn’t connect at all on the 2nd. They haven’t sent me any emails saying they’ve got my blood test yet, though I did have the “come and explore the app” email, which is particularly funny to me, as when I log onto the app, I only get the “scan your blood test qr” screen. They’re clearly having some tech teething issues!

ploot · 04/01/2025 20:04

Hiya,

I signed up to Mumsnet just so I could be part of your group (you're all so friendly!).

Finally decided to go ahead with MJ before Christmas, and ordered the blood test on 29/12. The app says dispatched but I don't think it's been dispatched yet...

I've also ordered some actual scales, a body measuring tape, vitamins & fibre capsules.

I'm autistic and fully accept that I'm probably going to have a tough time adapting to a new way of eating, but over Christmas I was told 'oh your hair is getting long' one time too many. I want to be told I look good or healthy!!

It's my 30th birthday this year, and I want to be happier with myself starting my 30s than I was entering my 20s.

5'9 and approaching 20st. My goal is 12st 7lbs.

Happy new year to you all, please teach me how to use Mumsnet 😂

OneAzureMaker · 04/01/2025 20:11

@DandyCyanFinch I completed the blood test on the 2nd, royal mail tracking says it's arrived, but the app says that my test needs to be sent!

I'm hoping that they are just rather overwhelmed and it will all come through soon. I've not had any emails from Shemed either.

Lotusbug · 04/01/2025 20:23

Welcome everyone! 🥳 nice to know there’s a good few of us all starting around the same time!

Also glad I’m not the only one with no emails 😂

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/01/2025 21:23

@ploot Welcome! I'm very excited someone has joined mn to take part in a thread I started 😁. I am likely autistic /adhd too and just literally waiting for an appointment for assessment any day! I'm 22 stone (Eeek) but looking forwards or being less.

@OneAzureMaker mine did that for a day too. I knew it had arrived from royal mail but the app didn't register that during the day then I got an email in the evening which I thought was quick. I guess Royal mail delivery literally means arriving at the warehouse not processed.

I'm starting to feel like the lucky one with emails! I expect you'll all get them in the next 24hiura or so...!

Lotusbug · 04/01/2025 21:25

Still no emails for me but I’ve had a notification from the app saying I’m eligible. Looks like my first injection will be coming on Monday. I’m relieved, nervous and a lot excited! 😁

Shmallow · 04/01/2025 21:28

Hey @ploot, welcome along! I wonder if the MJ will make those eating adjustments easier than they might be otherwise, with the effect on thoughts and food noise? Hopefully you can find some workarounds that aren't too challenging at any rate.

My order is also showing as sent but hasn't come, live chat said it'll go out Monday. Like some others, I'm mega impatient to get on it 😁

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/01/2025 21:45

Wahooo. What days will you all actually jab do you think?

Lotusbug · 04/01/2025 21:49

I was thinking Monday originally but then I’m worried about work if I end up with side effects the first few days as I can’t WFH so I think a Friday may be better then I’ve got the weekend off.

I say this, but I’m hugely impatient with very little self control so I may end up jabbing as soon as it arrives 😂

ploot · 04/01/2025 21:54

@Shmallow @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden

Please ignore my attempt at replying above 😂😂

I'm medicated for the ADHD, which has been incredible at reducing food noise - that is, until I get home from work and anything goes. It's also been incredible for so many other things, but also makes the autistic traits incredibly obvious.

My diet for the last 6 months has been porridge or shreddies for breakfast, a dairylea snackable and a variety of snacks in the afternoon, and then everything with the kitchen sink for tea.

Once I'm in a routine that is it. I've had a hyperfocus on weight loss before, many times, but it only lasts a couple of months before the dopamine just disappears, and it's back to shreddies.

I'm hoping that the ADHD meds plus MJ will get me past that, and maybe I'll actually have some focus to keep going. That with the routine should in theory do it - it's done it for many other things in life so why not weight loss!!

ploot · 04/01/2025 21:56

@Shmallow @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden

Forgot to mention and can't work out how to edit...

All previous attempts at losing weight were pre-medication for ADHD.

I've been stable on my dose for a year now, and it's time to actually do something for me.

Lotusbug · 04/01/2025 21:59

@ploot the evenings are my downfall as well! I do so well throughout the day then I get home and clear the cupboards 😬I’m thinking of starting a class or something in the evenings to give me something else to focus on other than food!

It’s great that your ADHD meds have been working so well, fingers crossed the mounjaro helps our evening food noise! 😄

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/01/2025 22:01

Oooh great to hear all that. I'm hoping to start adhd meds too and ideally would have been on them for a bit before MJ but then got impatient (!!). I think it's unlikely adhd meds alone would be enough as I'm morbidly obese but hoping that maybe once it's all. Off that will carry me mayve

I'm really hoping they will help with organisation and focus and just getting my life together. Similarly I want this year to be the year I sort things.

I also need a new job and I'm finging that hugely overwhelming so I'm focusing on these threads instead 😂

@ploot it's super interesting and I wonder about it as I've also seen anecdotal stuff about the jabs seeming to help ADHD, but I've no idea if that's got any basis in reality and if people actually had a diagnosis or were already medicated etc. We're an ND household in differing stages of diagnosis here. I'm the only candidate for this med though, everyone else is a lean bean!

I’ve also read things about jabs helping with neurodiverse conditions. It’s really interesting just how much of a benefit these medications can have for people. There was a Reddit thread about someone who had ADHD who was taking mounjaro that was a good read- I’ll see if I can find tomorrow and link it

Not quite the same but I have OCD which impacts on my food noise/thoughts so I’m intrigued about how much (if any) these jabs will have on my OCD

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 04/01/2025 22:09

I also discovered I was autistic, but I was over 60 when diagnosed.

The diagnosis has helped me to make sense of my life.

It also now explains my endless appetite.

I have a feeling that a great many obese people are on the autism spectrum. Two of my sons have AuDHD. One of them is on MJ now and it's helped him so much.

ploot · 04/01/2025 22:10

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden

The meds have hugely helped my issues with binge eating, so it's not constant anymore, but I haven't had the weight loss side effect that many other people get.

That's ok, because the depression and anxiety has completely disappeared. Although I'm now learning the ins and outs of autistic burn out, overstimulation, and everything else that comes with late diagnosis... it's been a year!

I must admit, being organised has been a coping method for years, but always too much on the minuscule details instead of the washing and that's not changed much either but it's definitely better!!

I changed jobs twice last year too, it was really shitty (I can swear in here right?) 2024 was such a 'planting seeds' year and I'm hoping 2025 brings me all the good from hard work (and so many years) I've put in.

I'll definitely be checking in once I start!

ps if you want any help / body doubling to help with the job search or CV then let me know, I'm actually quite good at it (I think haha)

ploot · 04/01/2025 22:14

@Lotusbug I love Reddit, the thread would be a great read!

Reading through my medical record for the first time ever, I also found an OCD diagnosis I didn't even know I had. I also discovered that 'rumination' is a thing, which was a discovery and a half for me.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 04/01/2025 22:15

I'm a lot less anxious since starting MJ.

MummySharkDooDoo · 04/01/2025 22:25

Hi all I hope you don't mind me joining as well!

I have signed up this evening to shemed - I'm quite excited but also feeling a bit apprehensive.

I have slowly lost 3 stone over the last 2 years but my weight loss is SO slow it can get really frustrating- I am currently 14 and a half stones but looking to lose another 3 stone.

I had lost 4 stone a few years ago on slimming world but put it all back on over Covid. Looking to get it off for good before my 40th next year.

How long did it take for your blood tests to arrive after signing up?
