Hello! Is anyone starting or recently started with Shemed? I think there's a few of us on the boards. I started posting on a different thread when I was looking into MJ but thought it would be nice for us to have somewhere to share our experiences of the journey!

I'm Fatsia. My bmi is huge (22 stone with 11 stone to lose ideally. I'd be happy with less!). I put on a lot of weight after having kids and have tried all the usual things to lose it each time gaining more. We don't have a high income so it's taken some thinking before getting to this place and I'm really hopeful reading others stories of where this can lead. I. Really do want to experience the world in a slimmer body again.

I did the blood test today - stressed out this morning at the app was overloaded with so many starting on 2nd of Jan but the actual experience was great. I'm a bit needle phobic so it was great to have the little device to do the test.

Love to hear from any others interested in sharing experiences.

(Anyone wanting to debate SheMed as a company there are other threads where that is happening)

I'm excited too, some super success stories here, well done!

I am so excited for the food noise to stop. I'm so sick of thinking of food all of the time! It's so consuming.

What exercise are you all doing/planning to do? I'm a runner usually, but have had a bit of a break since I did a half marathon in October, so really need to get back into it properly, it's just so cold and miserable outside!

I do aerial arts about five times a week! So lyra/hoop and pole plus flexibility classes. I’ve done well but I feel like my weight is really holding me back now from progressing. It’s a great way to build muscle, though, so I’ll definitely keep doing that.

I want to start running, too. I’ve tried a few times but find it so hard and I think that’s because of the pressure on my joints from all the weight I carry.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/01/2025 07:45

Wow aerial!! That's really exciting! You must have amazing flexibility and strength already!

Re fitness I'll be the outlier who struggles a bit with walking due to my weight (I also have ME but I'm morbidly obese and I think this is exacerbating it).

One of my goals is to lose enough weight I can move a bit better and try and build up stamina walking again.

@TheEndGoalisInSight Hopefully I'll be able to tell you soon! I did the test on the 2nd (really busy day when it crashed) and posted that day. I could see from the Royal mail tracking it arrived early in the 3rd. Last night I had an email saying they had my blood test results (although I can't seem to access them) and a clinician looks at them to review suitability. It does say this takes 3 working days (says 2 elsewhere in literature) so actually I could be waiting til Wednesday but hoping not.

I've read elsewhere one they decide eligibility it doesn't take long to send a pen so ideally I want to be ready Friday.

But I will update with my timescale!

I hope you get your blood results soon Fatsiajaponica. Mine are showing as having arrived by RM yesterday but the app still says they haven't been sent, so they've obviously not registered with Shemed yet. I've not had any emails like you.

Shmallow · 04/01/2025 09:39

This is excited @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden sounds like you'll know really soon and will be the first of us to kick off and lead the way!

I'm a gym member but I don't really do cardio and prefer strength. It's been a bit hit and miss the last few months with how often I go but it'll pick up now. I might start running alongside it, we'll see how it goes.

I'd love to do aerial arts but definitely feel too inflexible and fat for it! We actually have an aerial hoop for the children who do a bit of that.

Shmallow · 04/01/2025 09:40

*exciting

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/01/2025 10:16

Wahooooo I've been approved and will be sending me a pen 😍. I am so relieved.

I was planning to start Friday afterwork so any initial side effects are over the weekend which I think is sensible as I need to be present in person for work.

But I am not a patient person.... And it will be hard waiting those few extra days after waiting for the blood test etc.

Realistically I'm in it for a year so a few extra days won't hurt.

(so blood test 2nd, approved 4th and will let you know when it arrives).

Very impressed given it's a Saturday and it says to allow 3 working days.

Yay! If you start next Friday fingers crossed I won't be long after if I manage to get the blood test done on Tuesday 😬

TheEndGoalisInSight · 04/01/2025 11:31

So pleased for you @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden 👏🏻

I could cry, knew my screening kit was coming today so I’ve fasted, just had my water went to proceed and it won’t allow as it has to be done between Monday and Thursday due to postage 😭 gutted as I’m working Monday and don’t finish until after they’ve closed.

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden Following you from a previous thread. So pleased you've been approved, MJ has been life-changing for me with very few, mild side effects.

Here's looking towards a brighter, healthier future for you and all else starting their journey. 💛

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/01/2025 11:37

Oh the End I'm so sorry for you 😔. Yes it's Monday to Thursday for the testing so it gets to them by the next day. You also need to post it somewhere it can go the same day (we have a post office near us but you can look at the Royal Mail website for times)

You can however do it 30mins after waking up - ie do it silly early.

Ive got an email update about my drugs so just going to look and will, report back!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/01/2025 12:00

Wahooooo it will arrive tomorrow. That was so quick. (well after the initial 2 week wait to do the blood test!)

I'm really conflicted now. I decided Friday after work was the best day to jab as I am concerned I might be prone to side effects so weekend really would be best time to face them.

But it arrives tomorrow. I want to start tomorrow 😬. But that means a year of doing it Sundays!

OP posts:
TheEndGoalisInSight · 04/01/2025 12:02

So pleased for you @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden and really looking forward to following your progress ❤️

I know it’s only a few more days but so frustrating as it’s been a week since I paid and nearly 2 weeks since trying to get on board with starting so really feeling it now and want to get cracking.

the best of luck to you and everyone else ❤️

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/01/2025 12:09

Oh completely understand its felt like a very long 2 weeks here too! And the now self imposed wait til friday seems impossible!

You can do the blood test any time of day so if you did it early Monday and posted on way to work you could potentially have meds by end of the week too.

Actually, you can change the day you inject, as long as it's been five days at least since your last one. Maybe you can't if you're tied in to SheMed? I don't know. And you can't take the bonus dose, either, which is such a waste.

I never worry about side effects. You can take cyclizine for nausea (you can get it on Ebay or from online pharmacies). And you can take senna for constipation, and loperamide for diarrhoea. (Loperamide is the generic name for Imodium).

Personally, I got few side-effects, but when I did, it was as my body got used to the tirzepatide. I don't get any nowadays.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 04/01/2025 12:14

As soon as my first pen arrived, I had my first injection. I think it was a Tuesday morning.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/01/2025 12:14

I'm really hoping for low side effects. I am morbidly obese and not the healthiest though and need to be "present" for work so can't be struggling. But you're right I'm happy to otc drug for side effects so yes maybe it would be okay...

I can't change the day as it's part of a clinical trial so yes a downside. And no tot the extra dose.. But the pens will be £99 each time so will be a saving overall especially at the higher doses.

OP posts:
TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 04/01/2025 12:18

When you factor in the wasted bonus dose (which is actually a dose and a half) I've calculated that I'm paying the equivalent of £116 a month for my 15mg pens. I buy them from Medino.

I'm not sure you're getting much of a saving on SheMed when you're wasting so much MJ.

The right instructor will adapt a class for anyone, no matter their size or flexibility! Would highly recommend it!

So glad you’ve been approved @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden thats great news!

my blood results are back on app and getting reviewed by a clinician but some of the levels are raised and in red so I’m worried I’m not going to get approved 😣

My results aren't actually on the app 😬. I've emailed them to say this. I'm a bit worried there's something on there but presumably if it's okay for MJ then any weightloss would help!

OP posts:
FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/01/2025 12:35

Medino at 15mg is showing at 180 for me so still 144 a month if you have 5 doses.

For me I really am pleased to have the reliably low price for a year but will be looking at the end of a year for continuing and yes will likely use the "5th dose" then.

I do feel lucky that for me I won't have to chase prices each month as it really is a stretch for us. I'm also really hoping in a years time it might be cheaper 🤞.

With my discount code at Medino it's £160 for a 15mg pen.

How strange! Presumably they’re all okay though since you’ve been approved! I never got an email re: mine they were just there when I checked the app which is totally different to how you were notified. Hopefully customer support get back to you soon.

I’m hoping a clinician reviews mine today as I just want to know either way 🤞🏻 I have to say though, I’m impressed how quick the results came back! I’m going to be obsessively checking the app all afternoon now 😂

In other news, my cholesterol level is in serious need of improvement 🤣

Yes, you're right. I think it's definitely going to be cheaper as time goes on.
Probably just as I reach my goal argh!

If I get 5.5 doses from a 15mg pen, it works out at £29 a week. It does mean buying insulin syringes, but I got 100 for a fiver on Ebay, so that didn't break the bank.

I've shared my Medino code so many times that I've got a whole year's worth of discounts lined up. Well, 12.
