Hello! Is anyone starting or recently started with Shemed? I think there's a few of us on the boards. I started posting on a different thread when I was looking into MJ but thought it would be nice for us to have somewhere to share our experiences of the journey!

I'm Fatsia. My bmi is huge (22 stone with 11 stone to lose ideally. I'd be happy with less!). I put on a lot of weight after having kids and have tried all the usual things to lose it each time gaining more. We don't have a high income so it's taken some thinking before getting to this place and I'm really hopeful reading others stories of where this can lead. I. Really do want to experience the world in a slimmer body again.

I did the blood test today - stressed out this morning at the app was overloaded with so many starting on 2nd of Jan but the actual experience was great. I'm a bit needle phobic so it was great to have the little device to do the test.

Love to hear from any others interested in sharing experiences.

(Anyone wanting to debate SheMed as a company there are other threads where that is happening)

Our GP surgery does routine blood tests every year.

My cholesterol and triglycerides have definitely improved, the last time they were taken. That'll be because of my weight loss and improved eating habits.

Lotusbug · 04/01/2025 13:08

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne That’s really good for your discount codes- must make a big difference financially for you each month!

It’s good you can get your bloods done annually through the GP too and see them going down. I don’t know what all the different cholesterol levels mean but they’re all in red on my report which can’t be good 😂

My liver function test results are a bit all over the place too- I suspect too much wine over the Christmas period 😅

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 04/01/2025 13:12

@Lotusbug a lot of my blood tests were in the "Not Very Good" range, but they've really improved lately.

The practice nurse told me it was because I'd lost weight, but I still didn't tell her about the MJ.

Maybe that was because her only advice with regard to losing weight has always been to eat less and do more exercise.

Who knew, eh?

🤣🤣🤣

Hi all.

I commented on the other thread but thought I’d join you here also.

I signed up and ordered blood test on 31st December. I got an email yesterday saying they are experiencing high demand and will get kit next week.

I'm a bit nervous about the blood test now, I’m not squeamish about needles and assumed it was a finger prick style test. But sounds a bit more involved! I’m not a good bleeder! 🙈 whenever I’ve had a blood test they struggle to get me to bleed and need a butterfly needle. Hope it works 🤞

My BMI is 33, I weigh just under 14 stone (13 st 13lb), I want to loose 4 stone ideally!

I’ve got really into exercise since June but weight has barely moved. So hoping this helps me focus with the eating more.

We ordered on the same day, really hoping we get the test kit early next week!

I have been loosing the same 2 stone and putting it back on again. I really don't want to put the 2 stone back on I lost this year but my weight loss has stalled despite excersize and tracking calories and I can see the weight going up again.

I'm not good with blood and get faint at the sight, so hoping it won't be too bad!!

Lotusbug · 04/01/2025 13:28

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne Ha! When the doctor updated my height and weight last year he sighed at my BMI and asked if I’d considered eating less and going for a walk. Groundbreaking 🤣

@KeenGreen I’m usually terrible to get blood out of too but had no bother with this test (and it was pain free- bonus!)

KeenGreen · 04/01/2025 13:29

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/01/2025 12:14

I'm really hoping for low side effects. I am morbidly obese and not the healthiest though and need to be "present" for work so can't be struggling. But you're right I'm happy to otc drug for side effects so yes maybe it would be okay...

I can't change the day as it's part of a clinical trial so yes a downside. And no tot the extra dose.. But the pens will be £99 each time so will be a saving overall especially at the higher doses.

That’s great yours has been approved and sorted so quickly!

I’m eager to hopefully get started soon 🤞

I read elsewhere about people preferring to jab on Thursday/Friday to ensure that there is maximum coverage for the weekend. So this is what I’ll hopefully do if approved!

Fab! Thank you for the reassurance 😊 🤞

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/01/2025 13:42

Blood test was absolutely pain free. It's a good system. You stick it to your arm and then press a button but I didn't feel it at all to the extent I thought it hadn't worked!

I really ought to wait to Friday...

Its great for those who have managed to share their codes. I will have to look into that in a year but don't really want to be doing it/relying on people using it. I guess once we're saturated with people on MJ there eventually won't be tons of new people to sign up? But will look at all the options at the end of the year and def up for using a code!

Looks like several of us will be starting pretty much around the same time 😊.

I'm really impressed at routine annual blood tests! Part of my curiosity around Shemed was the blood tests and seeing values drop.

Its hard to even see my GP. Is that in England?

No, we live in a little Scottish village.
We get very good health care here. There are two doctors, an advanced nurse practitioner and two health care assistants.

It was actually a locum GP who told me about MJ, but said the NHS wouldn't allow her to prescribe it.

If we need an appointment, they answer the phone straightaway, and we're seen within two days. None of this hanging on for an hour, which we had when we lived in London. So we've experienced both.

The downside is that outpatient appointments are a long way away, but we get our petrol money back. It's often 100 miles away in Glasgow.

Blood tests are taken actually in the surgery though, so it's very easy. In London we had to get a bus to the hospital to get blood taken.

The village has its own fire engine and ambulance and paramedics, too.

Oh and repeat prescriptions are done on the same day, and the pharmacy doles them out the next day.

I prefer it here. It's peaceful.

Just not good as far as employment is concerned, and transport links are rubbish.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 04/01/2025 14:00

So anyway - if I'd wanted to try SheMed I wouldn't be eligible, living in Scotland.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 04/01/2025 14:05

If it was that easy to lose weight, MJ wouldn't have been invented.

There's definitely a school of thought which believes that some people don't seem to have an OFF switch when it comes to eating. It isn't our fault. It's just how we are.

I can't believe how different my portion sizes have become since July. I just literally can't eat as much, and I don't think about food all evening long.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/01/2025 14:07

Wow that does sound idyllic 😍. I would love to live somewhere like that! For the village and the peace as well as functioning healthcare!! I am truly shocked how bad it's got post covid where I am. I have a phone call from my gp later this week about a request I put in before Xmas (ironically wonndering about a blood test for fatigue...)

If you can't change your day with Shemed, I'd definitely recommend taking jab on Friday morning or evening. I take Saturday and feel ok, then a bit off Sunday but Monday is the worst day but I work from home so never a big issue as I can take it easy. Don't know if you have to order next pen or if it comes automatically, but if the former, also suggest ordering next pen as soon as you've taken 3rd dose, at the latest, to allow for postage delays.

When I had bloods done, cholesterol was a little high. When I explained I was losing weight and asked if it could be checked again in a year, I was told no, that they only check every 5 years. Honestly, I despair.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/01/2025 14:42

@KrankyKumquat

That's really help ful. Yes they say to think carefully about the day you start I am just so. Impatient! Realistically it's just waiting 5 more days. I work Fridays and need to be very present so the runs or anything would be a big problem. I think all jab when I get in from work and hope any side effects are Sunday!

Yes I think my GP will be similarly unhelpful so really hoping all my markers improve within this year. We will, struggle to afford this and it's made me realise what those who can pay for healthcare top ups could do!!

@KeenGreen We seem to be similar in height/weight/goal. I ordered the blood test on 29th and have been told it's coming Tues 🤞

Doggymummar · 04/01/2025 16:21

Good luck @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I know how excited you have been to get started

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/01/2025 16:25

Thankyou! Im going to have to be so disciplined to wait til friday!

Lotusbug · 04/01/2025 16:49

I’d love to live somewhere like that too! My GP surgery used to be great but the senior partner retired a few years back and the surgery got absorbed by a company that runs about 8 other surgeries and it’s went downhill since then which is a shame!

I’d never even thought about what day to do the jab but Friday seems like a good call for me too.

So I’ve still not had any emails, the app still says my report is under review however when I’ve checked my bank £99 has been taken today so I’m hoping that’s a good sign!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/01/2025 17:40

Ooooh looking good! Could the email have gone to spam? Or maybe they will all catch up with themselves on Monday.

I've now worryingly thought what if I have diabetes or something and they haven't uploaded the bloods as they need to tell me 😳. Mine's moved from report under review to active and the drug name etc. Theres a clicky button for when you want to do the jab a bit like when we did the blood test.

Friday seems so long away!

OP posts:
Lotusbug · 04/01/2025 17:49

I’ve double checked and nothing in spam, in fact I’ve had no emails from them at all throughout this entire process! They definitely have the right email though as the tracking link from Royal Mail came through okay for the testing kit. Very odd. I’m feeling cautiously optimistic though since they’ve taken the money! I’ll give it till Monday and if it doesn’t update I’ll drop them a message I think.

I hope your blood results get uploaded soon! I had to click the labs button under “view all activity” to see mine. I think they’re probably just struggling to get through everything with the influx of customers- if it had shown anything major that you hadn’t declared on your medical questionnaire i think they’d have spoke to you before prescribing anything. That said, I briefly convinced myself I had liver disease before based on my results so I get the worry. Anything health wise is so anxiety inducing isn’t it 😂

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/01/2025 17:52

Ha yes to the anxiety!

Emails ive had are...

  • "while to you're waiting for your blood test results Explore the app" email
  • "your blood tests are in and under review" email
  • receipt for payment *"welcome to shemed" explaining that the pharmacy will deliver my medication. .
OP posts:
FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/01/2025 17:54

In view all activity - I've got 3 messages under 2 tabs. Prescriptions is one and q and A has 2.

Maybe between us we have the whole package 😂

OP posts:
Lotusbug · 04/01/2025 17:57

Oh gosh I’ve had none of those! Maybe I need to change my email. I was using my iCloud one on my iPhone which has been known to be temperamental!

Haha, indeed! 😂 despite the slight teething problems I’m still impressed with how quickly things have ran though, I have to say.
