Hello! Is anyone starting or recently started with Shemed? I think there's a few of us on the boards. I started posting on a different thread when I was looking into MJ but thought it would be nice for us to have somewhere to share our experiences of the journey!

I'm Fatsia. My bmi is huge (22 stone with 11 stone to lose ideally. I'd be happy with less!). I put on a lot of weight after having kids and have tried all the usual things to lose it each time gaining more. We don't have a high income so it's taken some thinking before getting to this place and I'm really hopeful reading others stories of where this can lead. I. Really do want to experience the world in a slimmer body again.

I did the blood test today - stressed out this morning at the app was overloaded with so many starting on 2nd of Jan but the actual experience was great. I'm a bit needle phobic so it was great to have the little device to do the test.

Love to hear from any others interested in sharing experiences.

(Anyone wanting to debate SheMed as a company there are other threads where that is happening)

Ordered my blood test today! I’m 17st3, hoping to get to around 11st.

I have PCOS and I’m actually really active, but I struggle so much with my food! I watched my dad lose several stone with Mounjaro (prescribed for his diabetes but got the weight loss impact) and he’s a different man than the one I’ve known for the last few decades so I’m really excited!

bumblebee1987 · 03/01/2025 20:19

Can I join? I'm signing up today :-D I have lost and gained 3 stone every year for 3 years in a row, and i'm so sick of yo-yoing and not keeping it off. I just need some help! My BMI is 33, and I want to lose 4 stone in total.

Only thing i'm really anxious about is the potential nausea/vomiting, i'm a bit of an emetaphobe!

Shmallow · 03/01/2025 21:18

Welcome in @bumblebee1987! Fingers crossed you don't get those kind of side effects. It seems like eating choices do help, so that you eat enough not to feel nauseous but not the type of food that causes issues when it's delayed in the stomach. But that's really just from browsing people's experiences.

Lotusbug · 03/01/2025 21:42

Welcome @Bananaramram @bumblebee1987 🥳

re: side effects I’m a little nervous about that too- although I read something (I think it was on reddit!) that said they send you stuff with the pen to help combat common side effects like gaviscon for heartburn etc… which is kind of reassuring

Like shmallow says, It seems food choices help too and making sure to actually eat and drink despite suppression so you don’t get nauseous/dehydrated. Fingers crossed we all get minimal negative side effects though! 😊

Shmallow · 03/01/2025 21:54

Sorry @Bananaramram totally missed your post! Sounds like your dad has done really well, it must be fab to see. My dad is on all sorts for pre-diabetes and I hope maybe if I do this he could follow.. oh honestly I'm so excited for all of us and what this could mean. Sounds so saccharine but I just feel so hopeful!

OneAzureMaker · 03/01/2025 22:33

I took my blood test yesterday and posted it off. Now waiting for the results and hopefully to be accepted.

I have a huge amount to loose, 8-9 stone. I lost 3 stone in 3 months on fast 800, but a divorce and loads of stress has put that all back on. I really hope this makes a difference as I'm fed up of feeling like this.
Good luck to you all

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 03/01/2025 22:56

Hi @OneAzureMaker I had 11st to lose.
I lost 2st by myself. It took me six months and by the middle of June I was struggling, so I decided to start MJ.

In the five months that followed I've lost another 4st 4lb.

So in a year, I've lost 6st 4lb.

The MJ makes it so easy. I know I'll get to my goal weight now, probably by May or June this year.

I am.
I was a size 24 this time last year.
I'm a 14 - 16 now.

I can't imagine that! I'm a size 22 and have been big since the age of 18 - I'm 50 now!!

I'm 68.

I think I've lost and gained the same 2 - 3 stone about ten times. It's so disheartening.

MJ is a game-changer. You stop feeling hungry all the time and you stop thinking about food all the time, too. It's like magic.

bumblebee1987 · 03/01/2025 23:43

I'm excited too, some super success stories here, well done!

I am so excited for the food noise to stop. I'm so sick of thinking of food all of the time! It's so consuming.

What exercise are you all doing/planning to do? I'm a runner usually, but have had a bit of a break since I did a half marathon in October, so really need to get back into it properly, it's just so cold and miserable outside!

I do, I really do.

Even though I've still got over 3st to lose, I feel thin!

I'm now in size 36 bras, instead of 42s.

Ah that's so amazing, congratulations to you! 3 stone is nothing compared to how far you've come, you are so nearly there, your goal is within easy reach now 😁

TheEndGoalisInSight · 04/01/2025 00:12

Sorry if this has been asked before 🙈

I'm expecting my screening kit tomorrow from SheMed… what can I expect? Do I take the sample and post off? How long does it take to get a response?

I’ve been waiting for a little while like a lot of people due to Christmas holidays etc and I’m just itching to get started. Do I need to fast before taking the sample? I’m so worried that there’ll be an issue and I won’t meet the criteria or something. Feeling a little impatient not helped by the fact that my sister used a different company, she literally sent her measurements, ID and a photo and was well away days ago

any info appreciated and good luck everyone x

I’m excited for the food noise to stop too because at the minute literally everything revolves around food, happy=food, stressed=food, sad=food so it’ll be a nice break if that stops ha!

Exercise wise I want to get back into running too- I injured my ankle during a half marathon last year and haven’t ran since but it’s been 6 months now and the ankle is long healed- oops! The cold and miserable nights don’t help either. I keep toying with the idea of joining a gym and doing spinning/swimming too but then it’s another £50 a month on top of paying for the meds which is a lot!

Lotusbug · 04/01/2025 00:24

@TheEndGoalisInSight I did my blood test yesterday- you have to fast for 6 hours beforehand then drink water (I think it was a pint) around half an hour before doing the test. When you’re ready scan your QR code and it’ll get you to fill in a medical questionnaire then connect you to someone. I didn’t wait too long- about 10 minutes maybe and that was lunchtime ish. When you’re connected they’ll check your ID so have that handy then verify your weight. They ask you to take everything out the kit to check you’ve got everything then they scan a few barcodes.

They talk you through the entire thing though so don’t worry. You get a heat pack thing in the kit and rub that on your arm for 2 minutes then wipe the area with an alcohol wipe then once you’ve attached the tube to the device you stick it onto your arm and press the red button and sit there for 5 minutes to fill the tube- i didn’t feel a thing! Once that’s done you just peel the device off your arm put the cap on the tube, give it a shake and you’re good to go sealing it up and dropping it at the post office (there’s a prepaid envelope in the kit). The whole thing from start to finish took maybe 30 minutes and I’m waiting on my results now :) x

I'm exactly the same with food, it drives me mad! Everyone thinks it's so easy to just not overeat, but it's really not when it's all you think about!

Let's do running! We can get back into it 😁 Definitely much cheaper than a gym! I joined a ridiculously expensive gym for 10 months last year (£280 a month, literally mental!!), but I lost more weight when I was running, and enjoyed it more too! We're getting a dog at the end of this month, so I'm really hoping that she will encourage me to get out more, she isn't really a running companion as she's a toy poodle (although I use my brothers collie for that, he's great on a run!), but at least will help to keep my steps up with walking!

the person whose dad lost and now she's doing it - that's so exciting! And great to have his experience.
@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne Wow that's amazing to hear 😍. I was too big for bracissmo and felt so sad. One of my goals is to be a norm bra size again!!

My blood test was like lotus said. Very straight forward.

I've had an email saying they've got my results!! But it's not showing in the app yet. I'm really nervous this might mean I dont get accepted onto the trial 😬. Or I actually have diabetes now or somethings wrong. But it could just be a clinician needs to review it 🤞.

I too am. Nervous about side effects. I just read about someone with gasteipeeisis (not sure how you spell it) which has made me nervous. But living with morbid obesity is doing me physical harm right now so I'm going to need to take this risk or surgery.

I also don't do sick well and need to be able to be present in person for my job. So really hoping I'm not badly affected.

I am nervous in case the bloods have shown up anything 😬. And so hope I can start. I've been itching to go!

Ooo fab news that they have your results! That was speedy! I think you’re probably right about a clinician reviewing. Hopefully the app updates tomorrow and you get the go ahead- I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you! 😊

Oh gosh I know- if I had a pound for every time someone told me to just eat less I’d be rich 😂

Definitely! I love a good parkrun so that might be a way to ease back in. Crikey that’s an expensive gym membership! Makes my £50 look like a bargain haha! Aww lovely news on the new dog! Good excuse to do some lovely scenic walks with her 😊

TheEndGoalisInSight · 04/01/2025 01:02

Thanks @Lotusbug thats really helpful.

How long between sending off your blood sample and getting your first injection did you have to wait? The waiting is killing me 🙈 my sister and I both signed up the same day and she got her injection nearly a week ago with a different company. I know the wait will be worth it but I’m itching to get going. All I’ve done is binge eat chocolate since signing up it’s as though I subconsciously know that this is mine and chocolates relationship is over 👏🏻

TheEndGoalisInSight · 04/01/2025 01:04

Sorry I’ve just reread your post and realised you did your test just yesterday x

can anyone else advise how long it takes for the results to come back?

thanks 🙏

Haha, me too, we'd be rolling in money 🤣

Ah I've never been brave enough to try a park run, not sure why. I've done a junior one with my 5yo, but I'm not sure it counts as a run! Maybe I'll give one a try.

Yes it was a ridiculously expensive mistake to be honest, it didnt do anything that a cheaper gym couldn't have done. In fact, I lost more weight at my £30 a month gym the year before than I did at the fancy one. Evidently I'm a sucker for shiny marketing!

So excited for the new dog! We have some gorgeous countryside around here too, perfect for some lovely walks.

@TheEndGoalisInSight All I've been doing is binging the remaining Xmas chocolate, biscuits and cheese, for exactly the same reason. It's now or never 🤣
