Thanks for the new thread! It's such a valuable resource!

Hello everyone. May I join you? (I'm a very, very long-time member of MN but have name-changed for this).
My first dose arrived this afternoon and I'm going to pluck up the courage to take the first jab tomorrow morning. I'm pretty nervous about it, to be honest. What if I'm someone who it doesn't work for? I've been depending on this as a last resort. And what if I cock up the needle jab and hurt myself?
Anyway, I've measured all my vital statistics (horrific!) and will weigh again in the morning in case there's any material change from what I put on my application.

YummyCookie · 24/10/2024 23:41

Welcome @ChimneyRock. it’s easy to do if you just take it step by step. It really doesn’t hurt. Good luck!

Weigh day for me tomorrow!

I was amazed at how tiny the needle is. I thought I didn't even get it in my thigh! If it hadn't left a dot of blood, I would have literally assumed it never went in. Good luck!

Thanks for the new thread. I seem to find myself awake at this time every night. Welcome @ChimneyRock. I put off starting but in the end it was all surprisingly painless and easy. Go for it.

I'm not normally awake at this hour but I went out for dinner last night and must have overdone it as I've woken up with the worst stomach, the noises its making could wake the neighbours up!

Thanks for the new thread OP.

quince2figs · 25/10/2024 03:52

Hi all, may I also join?

I have been lurking for a while, nervous of starting for similar reasons to many:
what if it doesn’t work? (and what the hell will I do then)
scared of side effects, especially nausea/vomiting and diarrhoea, as have IBS
when best to give the injection
Most of all - such a feeling of failure admitting that I cannot lose weight with willpower alone, and need medicating… I am a health professional, am ashamed of needing to advise patients to lose weight at my size, plus not a very good patient.

BUT - I am mid-50’s, was a fat child with fat parents, and have only ever been a normal weight for perhaps 10 halcyon years from late teens to late 20’s. Metabolism of youth, plus smoked then, was active, and ate huge amounts of mostly healthy food.
I then crept up slowly to overweight, then obese, and now almost morbidly obese. 2 children closely followed by perimenopause, a horrendous long and abusive relationship, multiple bereavements then Covid-related health problems only worsened my relationship with using increasingly large amounts of sweet food as comfort. Now single, so accountable to no-one.

I detest my appearance, and it has stopped me doing so many normal things for so many years - covering up on beach, avoiding all photos, even avoiding mirrors from neck down etc.
My main concern now is health - I am a sole parent and need to be healthier for my 2 teens. I am scared of developing type 2 diabetes, heart problems; 2 work friends not much older than me have recently had strokes.
Cant deny I would love to look slim and attractive (ish!) once more though, and perhaps to date again.

I started exercising at a gym in the last year and have really improved fitness, flexibility, strength, and brought down my borderline bp and cholesterol - but still cannot shift the weight.

Soooo - pulled myself together, ordered from MediExpress with a discount code (oh, the horror of the well-lit, albeit fully clothed, full length photo!) and have looked at the pen in my fridge for a week. I had a nice foodie event so avoided starting prior to this.
1st injection 20th October - a Sunday. I spent the rest of the day incredibly anxious at the unknown!

My experience so far is astounding:
completely painless and easy injection

no unwanted or unpleasant side effects

within hours, food noise disappeared totally

much reduced hunger

still enjoying small and nutritious meals, but need to remember to have lunch

no desire to eat my usual biscuits and chocolate - have eaten a small amount twice, purely from habit, and not enjoyed after 1 mouthful, so stopped.

not much desire for alcohol - would usually have a bottle of wine and 1-2 G&T over a week. I had a small glass of wine yesterday at a meal out - again, almost as habit. I enjoyed it but was absolutely enough. No side effects from the wine.

More thirsty than usual, but I feel I have for years been interpreting thirst as hunger.
Energy good, better than my usual tired all the time
Chronic joint pain seems less of a problem

I’m averaging 1200 calories a day since I started, and this is with actively ensuring I have 3 small meals - could easily eat less calories, but this is less than half of my previous intake. Trying to eat good amounts of protein and veg and drink more water.

SW:106.5kg, BMI 38.1
GW: 69kg, BMI 25
I am weighing weekly on injection morning.

Can anyone recommend a particular electrolyte or clear protein drink?
I’m not convinced that collagen isn’t just digested in nthe stomach like any other protein, but willing to give it a go - again any particular brands?

onthecoast · 25/10/2024 04:38

I'm on week 1 day 4. Everything is going well and no serious side effects apart from waking at 7am on day 2 with gut ache which vanished a couple of hours later. The only other issue is my sleep. I’m awake now at 0430. Went to bed at midnight and fell asleep straightaway. Woke up at 0200, fell asleep again, woke 0315, fell asleep again. Woke 0420… It’s been a bit like this most nights though tonight’s the worst. It’s not a big deal as I’m not working at the mo so I can sleep in, but a bit annoying. Anyone else have the same experience? Apart from that, am happy with reduced appetite. I’ve been eating well at breakfast and dinner but no desire to snack, and no desire for lunch.

Mounjarjar · 25/10/2024 04:52

I share your thoughts re collagen and would be grateful for any info from those better informed than me.

Crazydogmumma · 25/10/2024 05:16

Thanks for the new thread.
i have had my third weigh in and lost another 2 and a half pounds which I am please with- total loss in 3 weeks- 13 pounds.
i still have a long way to go but already feel the bloat of my menopausal tummy has reduced a little.
i am going to order the 5 pen next. I feel so excited for this journey and the fact I actually believe it is possible to loose a significant amount of weight and look and feel much better.
love reading all your positive stories! Keep going everyone! We’ve got this!

@quince2figs for electrolyte drinks try high 5. I haven’t had this particular flavour but found high 5 palatable (many aren’t) when I used them for long distance running and cycling.

SunQueen24 · 25/10/2024 06:05

@ChimneyRock i was you yesterday. I spent a few days deliberating over whether to jab. It was totally painless and I’ve had no significant side effects yet except a small reduction in appetite.

Gr3atEscape · 25/10/2024 06:46

@Crazydogmumma that is an incredible result. Well done!

letshavetea · 25/10/2024 06:50

Welcome @ChimneyRock @quince2figs
Refarding ordering pens @HansHolbein and others - I received two pens yesterday from Oushk. I ordered them on Monday. It seems that ordering at the beginning of the week is a good idea as it seems to take four days (at least to be approved and shipped). I am staying on 2.5 for another month as we are on holiday for two weeks. Then I have a 5mg pen in stock ready for my return. I will probably titrate up to the full dose using clicks. There wouldn’t have been enough time to order if I hadn’t done it this way. I’m also going to order again in early December to avoid any Christmas/new year delays.

Fizzleaway1 · 25/10/2024 06:50

Thanks for the thread

Gr3atEscape · 25/10/2024 07:06

Week 2 weigh in for me today

SW: 18st 6lbs
CW: 17st 11lbs
GW: 11st

Week 2: -5

Delighted with this week's result. I have felt hungry and peckish most of the time but have found it easier to not snack (which is my main problem). I will be moving up in dose at the end of month as I know from experience that I won't be able to say no for too long. I think another factor that is helping is being afraid of negative side effects brought on by fatty foods or big meals.

lapuf · 25/10/2024 07:06

Thanks for the new thread
I'm W1D5, just weighed out of interest and am 5lbs down! I think 3lbs was a temporary gain from a big last hurrah weekend though Blush and it will be water weight but I've been eating so well.
I lost a fair bit of weight last year following the concepts in Why We Eat Too Much and I think that will be key to maintenance once I lose this weight. I'm broadly sticking to that plan and relying on the MJ to keep me away from the bagels and Nutella Grin

TheBoldHelper · 25/10/2024 07:18

Thanks for the new thread op. Due my third jab tomorrow and feel so much better with this medication, the threads are great as it helps to understand how others feel and the progress they make.

I'm interested in hearing people's strategies as it occurs to me that relying on suppression alone is not the answer. I really want to use the journey to incorporate a new way of eating for life and one that I could potentially use to come off MJ down the road. I know that eating intuitively doesn't work for me not does calorie counting as I can get obsessive with it. Also struggle to do it in the moment with 2 young kids. I think I need a structure to follow like 16:8 or 3 meals with whole foods, no snacking or something.

TheOtherSide21 · 25/10/2024 07:34

Weigh in day for me!

Shot down 8.25lbs this week (only lost 1lb last week so think there was a bit of holding / inflammation going on there).

Takes my total loss from 27th September to 21 pounds - or bang on 1.5 stone.

Diet wise - I am counting calories and sticking to macros. Eating between 1600kcal - 2000kcal per week.

Exercise wise - I’m not killing myself this time. Swim in the morning before work and then ride 1 or 2 horses after. Maybe one spin class a week. If I’m working away I try get 10-15k steps in a day, which can be easy as I’m always walking for trains and planes etc. At the weekend my natural activity goes up if I’m competing etc.

In recent years when I’ve attempted to lose weight I think I’ve tried to do too much on top of dietary changes and inhibited weight loss. At the start of the year I was walking 15k steps a day, doing an hour on weights, then a cardio class, and then riding horses most days. It was a bit OTT. With the help of MJ I’m being ‘moderately active’ but letting the diet do most of the leg work.

ClosingTime93 · 25/10/2024 07:42

Weigh in day for me too! Congratulations to the great losses everyone.

First week over. The last 48 hours were rough, the food noise came back so loudly but I stayed strong.

SW: 92.1kg/203lbs
CW: 89.3kg/196.9lbs
2.8kg down, yay! Without MJ, I've only lost that much over the course of a month.

quince2figs · 25/10/2024 07:45

some great losses here - very encouraging!

Thanks @SunQueen24, will give those a go

SunQueen24 · 25/10/2024 07:47

Day 2 - the suppression has definitely kicked in. I woke up hungry, I’ve made a slice of toast with butter and marmite. Two bites and I felt full. I’ve forced a third and now don’t fancy anymore.
