I’m on needle 1 currently and see zero effects, my 5mg comes in today but due to inject the final 2.5mg Sunday. Would you just skip and start the 5mg?

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 25/10/2024 07:54

Morning. Thanks for new thread. I was an absolute pig yesterday but woke up feeling sick this morning, so hopefully that will help me power through today, then only the weekend to get through before jabbing on Monday morning!

FuckOffGerms · 25/10/2024 08:01

Thanks for the new thread! I’m week three, half a stone loss so far which is brilliant.

If you mean move up to 5mg after only three weeks on 2.5mg then no I wouldn't do that. I know it's hard to be patient when you want to see the scales move now but the 2.5mg pen is designed to get your body used to the drug and should be used for 4 weeks.

2.5mg to 5mg is the only time the dose you take doubles week on week. It's a big step up in the medication so you shouldn't rush to get there. There is a chance if you go up too soon you will get nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. I have seen several posters who have taken a dose too strong for their body or who have ignored side effects and pressed on with their weekly doses end up on drips in hospital as they couldn't even keep water down. It's a prescription drug and needs to be used carefully. Try to be patient.

Thank you for the new thread! I hadn't thought about joining a thread before I started on mounjaro but I'm finding it so helpful to know there are others out there at roughly the same stage walking the same path. I think because I've only (and will only) told my DH and therapist that I'm on mounjaro.

Huge well done to everyone for the losses and sticking with it, whether it's hard due to not good enough suppression or side effects.

@EVK coming back to your Q to me from the last thread about which pen I've ordered with my plan to stick to 2.5 and then go to 3.75 - I've been hesitant to share this while everyone is facing the expense of buying privately, but I get my prescription on the NHS because I'm diabetic and have struggled to control my diabetes with other medications so far. So I'm on a bit of a cocktail. Mounjaro is really working for me in that. But so it means I'm not quite so anxious about making the right choice for the right size pen because I'm not facing a financial impact if I make a mistake, if that makes sense? So my next pen is a 2.5 but my diabetes nurse has said she can change that to 5 mid-way through the month if I feel it's necessary.

I'm going away this weekend to visit my son at uni (he just started 1st year) and this will be a bit of a challenge on mounjaro. Lots of eating out. Less able to plan and nibble when I feel I want to. I'm concerned I will be lulled into overeating and pay for it with side effects away from home. Or fee I'm missing out. But nervous but I don't want it to negatively impact the weekend seeing my boyo, who I'm missing lots!

How have others got on when they've been away from home?

Yes I would if you have no effects at all - but I am a bit more relaxed about the doses. Ive been using a syringe to get mine out since the twisting mechanism broke and I have increased the dose a little for my last week to get me used to the 5mg. But I had no real negative side effects... so an easy decision.

End of week 3 for me and 8lbs lost in total. It has slowed down to 2lbs for each of the last 2 weeks but I am pretty happy with that as each week I am feeling better and my clothes are getting better fit etc so it's nice changes I am seeing

Hopefully you find it easier than you think! I had a couple of meals out last week and I ordered a tapas style - 2 dishes - the first one and a children's portion the next one. I enjoyed the food and I didn't feel I was missing out. I am on jury service all week as well surrounded by biscuits and snacks and we aren't allowed to out so having catered lunch every day but I really don't want more than half of what is in front of me. I hope you feel the same and enjoy what you eat but I would imagine you just won't want to overeat

KolaKoalaKan · 25/10/2024 08:15

@flowerlady you asked about tips for newbies... someone on the other thread suggested probiotic drinks to me when I was really struggling with sickness and nausea in week 2. They've been quite a gamechanger for me. I have a homemade seed/nut bar (rich in protein and fibre) with my morning coffee, then a few hours later I mix half a banana, half an actively yoghurt and a biomel strawberry drink and sip that. My nausea was worse I think because I felt sick so wasn't eating so my blood sugar was dropping. So this has helped. The probiotics plus the fibre and protein from the nuts and seeds seems to have settled my stomach. Less dashes to the loo too. My insides are now moving in a more measured way Grin

KolaKoalaKan · 25/10/2024 08:18

@thekewgirl thank you, that's reassuring! I'm due my next jab Sunday morning and I'm feeling the good noise a bit more today so don't want to overwater and then regret it! But hopefully mounjaro will stop me wanting to.

lapuf · 25/10/2024 08:18

@Gr3atEscape yep I figure by following the concepts during my losing phase, the habits should become ingrained.
That's the plan, as I am so addicted to white carbs and refined sugar that I need to cold turkey Sad I can do a bit of fasting (I skip dinner rather than breakfast) and I'm planning to start running again once I get the go ahead from my osteopath (dodgy knee, weak core).

I have a very slim mother, who stays at a size 8 permanently. It's interesting to observe her eating habits. She skips breakfast and then has salad for lunch and then protein and veg for dinner. She does enjoy crisps and wine but is so moderate in her consumption in totality. For example at the weekend she had a platter of crudités and houmous for lunch and I had a white bread peanut butter sandwich. Hers was tastier and way more nutritious and she offered to make me the same, but I self sabotaged. That has to stop!
If she hits 8 stone she watches what she eats until she drops back down to 7st 10 (weight set point in action, happens quickly)

ThatVividCat · 25/10/2024 08:25

morning everyone W1D2 for me (or technically still d1 as didn’t take until 2:30 yesterday) anyway. was worried i felt nothing yesterday but have woken with a feeling of fullness. not uncomfortable. suppose this is the suppression feeling?
I have been intermittent fasting for a few years but have decided to have a protein shake in the mornings now to enable me to up my protein as I was seriously lacking. also I have PCOS & have read about fasting increasing cortisol so thought maybe the shake would be a good idea. Managed the shake fine.
let’s see how the rest of the day goes

Just joining the new thread still on week 1.

Early weigh in because of being away for the weekend! Thrilled to lose 2lb this week as wasn't expecting to. But I've gone over the first stone marker! Woohoo!

How much is in the 'bonus dose' I am due to do my third 2.5 shot tonight but thinking to increase it to 3.75 and then do the same next week before starting on the 5

KolaKoalaKan · 25/10/2024 08:39

@SunQueen24 it's called Monitor Your Weight. It's free. Someone else here recommended it.

It varies. I believe you need to withdraw it in order to measure. Can be between 50% or 150% of a full dose depending on how much was there or used for priming

No effects no weight loss at all. It’s like I’ve not took anything. I’d be happy with 2lb a week my initial target is actually 1.5st which I know isn’t a lot compared to some. That would still leave me at 12st but I know I’m around a 12 at this weight and it’s a comfortable size for me. My ideal goal is to get under 13st by Xmas so I was hoping I would see an effect with the 2.5mg but honestly not even a slight hint I’ve taken anything. I’m going to give the 5mg a try for a month and hope it helps

I’d love the recipe for your protein breakfast bar 😊

recklessgran · 25/10/2024 08:57

Morning all. It's W2 D1 for me and I'll be doing my second jab this afternoon.
That means of course that it's weigh day for me and I'm thrilled to find I've lost 5.5lbs.
SW 15st 7lbs
CW 15st 1.5lbs
No goal at the moment but for now would be happy at 12st.I think.
I am amazed in all honesty as I'm on the old side [68] and have an underactive thyroid and on levo. This is the most I have ever lost in a week in years and years of yo-yo ing.
I'm sure it's water weight as my feet were always a bit swollen but that has definitely reduced. Whatever it is I'll take it with joy in my heart!
Reflecting on the week, the suppression was virtually instant for me and lasted about 4 days. The other 3 days I had to exercise much more self control but concentrated on portion size and quality. No mindless snacking happened though which has been a big problem for me in the past.
This week my plan is to exercise more as I'm not at all active and drink more water.
Have a good day all!

Oh great suggestion many thanks! I’ll pick up some probiotics today. Would you be happy to share the recipe for your homemade seed/nut bar? 😃
