So in a few weeks time (1st September), it’s the start of meteorological Autumn. TheWeatherOutlook has some early thoughts about it here and Netweather’s thoughts are here.

Chilly is ok, endless wet days/storms ~ not wanted.

Autumn 2024 weather

Is a chilly autumn more likely than in recent years?

Thanks. Makes sense of the insane amount of water. Surprised its not been in the new more tonight - guess the Trump story has bumped it...

I've been wondering why the weather thread wasn't being posted on anymore... you lot all buggered off!

Hi Grin

GloriaSmud · 19/09/2024 19:26

Pixiedust1234 ~ just been out and about enjoying the not-too-bad weather that we've been having Grin
Looking at next week though....well, looks like autumn returns.....

We've had a wee blast of summer in Edinburgh, was up to 23c, almost the highest temperature of the year and no wind. Was still sunny today but about 15c with the breeze from the north east.

justasking111 · 20/09/2024 09:03

Sunny days and chilly nights, perfect. We're getting the bad weather tomorrow maybe.

JaneIves · 20/09/2024 11:09

Just had the most intense storm through north West Sussex, the streetlights came on it was so dark, and hailstones the size of big fat peas at least. Temp dropped a good 7/8 degrees too, possibly more.

Pixiedust1234 · 20/09/2024 12:05

Oh wow 😮

implements safety protocol around Sussex so the weather can't move north. Grin

Gonna be a rough couple of days this autumn equinox

Thanks @GloriaSmud .

The tides are huge here mother nature is at full power as is normal at this time of the year but more intense these days. The fishermen are moaning nowt to catch because the wise old marine life have escaped to deeper waters.

We had a storm in Oxfordshire yesterday that rumbled on for three or four hours. Never experienced that in this country before.

nannynick · 21/09/2024 16:23

Got soaked in a thunderstorm yesterday around midday. Just seen that in North Hampshire (I'm in West Surrey so not far away) there was a tornado... though some comments on the video say it was just a bit windy.

Some rain today but nothing like yesterday lunchtime.

Still dry in Manchester!
This is an unusual turn of events, I'm used to being the first to get any rain.

GloriaSmud · 21/09/2024 17:40

Well Storm 1 has ended so we've got a bit of a gap and it's very quiet at the moment. Storm 2 isn't far away though and moving in a NW direction, from over Market Harborough way.

justasking111 · 21/09/2024 17:55

We've had sunshine all afternoon after a dull start. NW direction, wonder if that means us?

GloriaSmud · 21/09/2024 18:48

I think you might catch something justasking111. Looking at the radar, it seems to be in a curve shape ~ the front of it is heading towards Bangor at the moment, it then curves around the North Wales coast, carries on just south of Manchester and then in to the Midlands.

Storm 2 has just started here....⛈

InMySpareTime · 21/09/2024 19:19

We have the rain now, with flashes of lightning too.

justasking111 · 21/09/2024 19:32

We have rain, not a lot though. No ⚡⚡ yet. One of the dogs spaniel hates it. The labrador is oblivious. 🤣

GloriaSmud · 21/09/2024 19:43

justasking111 ~ I think rain might be all you get now ~ what was curving around the N Wales coast seems to have disintegrated. Looks like it's all heading for Manchester and Liverpool now.

Storm 2 for us was mostly some rather impressive lightning.

Forecast for some wonderful stormy weather here today. Really looking forward to it.

IDareSay · 22/09/2024 10:24

Finally some heavy rain here after a glorious day yesterday so I don’t need to water anything apart from what’s in the greenhouse. Still very warm though and not much breeze. We aren’t far from Abbotsbury which has its own microclimate so weather forecasts are rarely accurate here.
