So in a few weeks time (1st September), it’s the start of meteorological Autumn. TheWeatherOutlook has some early thoughts about it here and Netweather’s thoughts are here.

Chilly is ok, endless wet days/storms ~ not wanted.

Autumn 2024 weather

Is a chilly autumn more likely than in recent years?

Hot and sunny here today.

Where are you? Utterly miserable here today in Hampshire. Torrential rain and thunder storms this morning.

I want sun!

justasking111 · 06/09/2024 13:26

North Wales. Abersoch this morning friend sent a picture

Absolutely boiling (26) here in Cheshire, blue skies and a fairly stiff, hairdryer type breeze, currently washing and hanging out almost everything we own - the perfect drying day!

mondaytosunday · 06/09/2024 13:30

Rainy again today (London) but after the long hot August I'm totally happy with it! Should clear up in a couple days. Still quite warm though.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 08/09/2024 13:32

Just had a very nice thunderstorm here and heavy rain. Seems to be passing now.

I think the dog barking at the thunder has scared it away.

EmeraldRoulette · 08/09/2024 23:15

Thunder and lightning in Essex last night was something else!

justasking111 · 11/09/2024 08:23

We're in the gusty zone now. Tremendous cloud bursts last night, very localised. I was caught in one coming out of the supermarket, windscreen wipers couldn't cope. Much cooler 10c. I'm going to clear the kitchen and bathroom windowsill, think the plants on the hearth will have to be moved soon, the log burner beckons.

GloriaSmud · 11/09/2024 11:37

It was that chilly, our heating came on this morning and looks like there'll be a few more chilly nights/mornings to come, with some areas seeing frost as well this week.

Could be some thundery showers around today.

I surrender. I've cleared and cleaned the hearth, moved my plants. Husband has brought in the first logs just in case. Was so cold in the bathroom this morning.

I'm so pissed off. We never had a summer in NW Wales, just grey skies and rain with the occasional glimpse of sun.

My arthritic spine and hips are screaming again. 🤬🤬

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/09/2024 15:01

Brrrrr. Feels cold today.

justasking111 · 12/09/2024 16:47

I've ordered a teddy fleece dressing gown from Amazon. The puppy ate the zip on the last one. Wearing socks, local paper say there will be snow on the mountain top this week 😱

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 12/09/2024 17:42

The duvet has gone back on the bed. Sleep with just a sheet and a blanket in summer. Nice to be able to snuggle up nice and cozy again. Nippy this morning.

MotherOfCatBoy · 12/09/2024 18:29

Currently hoping this sunny but chilly weather will hold. It’s not the temperature that does me in, it’s the dark. I can cope as long as there’s sun and light.
The thing I really dread is that wet grey lid on the world that doesn’t let any light in for weeks while it rains and rains. I think I can get to Christmas, it’s February on that will get me.

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 12/09/2024 18:50

@MotherOfCatBoy I so agree! The dreaded lid is so oppressive

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/09/2024 20:00

I quite like an autumn walk with the grey lid. Although sunny autumn walks are nice too. But no way do I want as many grey wet days as we had last autumn winter.

justasking111 · 13/09/2024 09:35

3c inland last night. We managed 6c. It's cold again today bbrrr

MotherOfCatBoy · 13/09/2024 13:16

It was actually hot in the back garden at around 11am! Very chilly at 7am though.

(and - tangent, sorry - I saw a parakeet! Have never seen one here in S Wales before. Only London. Was flabbergasted! It flew over the back gardens of our back lane!)

justasking111 · 13/09/2024 14:20

Warm here now. Astonishing aurora borealis last night, so beautiful off Anglesey and the north Wales coast

justasking111 · 13/09/2024 14:45

I've lamb shanks in port with vegetables in the slow cooker.

MotherOfCatBoy · 13/09/2024 23:06

That sounds delicious @justasking111

Stair rodding here. Looking forward to next week.

We've had the most amazing few nights aurora wise this week. Absolutely beautiful

colouringindoors · 15/09/2024 22:06

Slightly off topic but is anyone following the storms and flooding in central Europe? (Couldn't see a thread) Southern Poland had Two thirds of a year's rain in Three days! Austria, Czech Republic and Romania badly affected. The volumes of water are unbelievable - and the clear up work will be massive.
