So in a few weeks time (1st September), it’s the start of meteorological Autumn. TheWeatherOutlook has some early thoughts about it here and Netweather’s thoughts are here.

Chilly is ok, endless wet days/storms ~ not wanted.

Although looking at the weather outside today (dull, cloudy, a chilly 18C and a gusty wind which is making the leaves blow off the trees), it's looking a lot like autumn has arrived already!

Last year was great, in London, anyway -sat outside well into October. Too much to hope for that again, I expect.

I agree, hoping for another mild Autumn/Winter since summer has been another washout!

Would be nice to have a traditionally cold winter and a proper cooler autumn again.

Sideorderofchips ~ that sort of autumn and winter would be nice. I'd like an autumn where there isn't one storm after another and a winter where there are a few deep frosts along with some falls of snow (but nothing too disruptive.) That would do me for those two seasons!

The weather is looking ok for the next week or two so it looks like it's going to be a nice start to autumn.

F. Really hot here today. And humid

A humid 25C here (Leicester) There are a few dark clouds about but don't think we're going to see a storm today.

No sign of a storm here and I could really do with one - because it’s the only way the kids playing outside are going to turn the volume down. They are shrieking and screaming and it’s doing my head in.

However, that is actually making me feel better about the prospect of winter!

It’s been a good summer down here, but I had no idea that a flat facing the car park was going to attract so much “children shrieking” noise. I’m currently running the portable air con to try to reduce their noise a bit.

Although to be fair, I don’t know what temperature it would reach in here without having it on…it is pretty hot out…but no sign at all of a storm.

My car dashboard informed me it was 30c at 2.30pm. Ten miles inland, then 23c and hazy along the coast (south) at 5pm. Feels stormy now.

I think I can smell rain….

My goodness, it was already dark here by 8pm tonight (London suburb) 😯. But still very humid. It will have to rain for the temperature to drop from the 29 degrees my phone picked up earlier on, to 22 degrees tomorrow!

Rain on the window just woke me at 4.40 a.m. so I’m joining the thread. It was flat grey here (Central Scotland) all day yesterday but not wet, so I’m glad to hear the garden’s getting a drink.

The day before that — Saturday — was sunnier and lovelier than just about anything we’d had all month. Goodbye to summer 😔
