It's all changed at work, grey and cold

Summer 2024
Evenstar · 14/06/2024 12:44

Biblical deluge this morning as I set off for my volunteering shift at the cat rescue, arrived to find the water butt that catches the water off the roof overflowing down the sides as it was full to the brim. I emptied out a few buckets of water as it was about to flood the catio.

We've had a couple of short but very wet thunderstorms the past few days but today was the "best". Horrendous hail storm amongst the lightning and now our lawn is white 😱 Then ten minutes later the sun is beaming through. I don't like this weather at all Sad

Sort of similar. SE London, expected thunderstorms yesterday afternoon never materialised but came today instead. DCat hates thunder.

The lightning map website is fun to check. Not sure how accurate it is

socks1107 · 15/06/2024 22:11

Does anyone know what the long term forecast is?
We might get a scorching July and August!

It's fascinating how they do it. The lightning is detected by lots of detectors all over the world and they triangulate where it actually happened. It's very accurate.

I'd like to know this too!

Booked for Cornwall last week of July and hoping for some beach days...

justasking111 · 16/06/2024 19:39

Well this coming few days are supposed to be nice.

spikeandbuffy · 17/06/2024 00:26

Absolutely torrential rain just started. I can't believe how loud it is!

rewilded · 17/06/2024 00:28

I'm starting to wonder about those conspiracy theories to do with cloud seeding.

I'm starting to wonder about those conspiracy theories to do with cloud seeding.

I haven't read about any of them but my first thought was if one country sends chemicals into the atmosphere on a regular basis then surely it's going to unbalance the whole atmosphere surrounding the planet eventually. The floods this year weren't anticipated at all. Why not? And is there a way to send these rain clouds back to them? Multiple wind turbines all facing a certain way with the current reversed? ? 😬

10- day forecast in London looks good - sunny, staying around 20-23 and most importantly no rain! Hopefully they've got it right.

Hope those in other parts of the country are improving. We were on the South coast in Saturday and the wind was unreal.

justasking111 · 17/06/2024 08:33

Cloud seeding Geo engineering for rain, I think can only affect a small area at a time. Compared to el nino, volcanic activity, huge forest fires, say and nature's own world weather system I think it's down the list. But it's very interesting.

Pixiedust1234 · 17/06/2024 08:57

Oh I agree it's down the list but surely we are being naive to believe all the changes stays local. We should all know by now that nature is very finely balanced, screw up one part and you potentially screw up the rest in a domino effect. Anyway, I've not given it a huge amount of thought and probably better in a different thread.

Yesterday was still weird, lots of rain with big bursts of sunshine then back to lots of rain multiple times (but no rainbows Sad) . Looking out of the window I think today will be the same. So yeah we are getting some sun but nothing is drying off. I really feel for all the bugs and butterflies out there.

Oh that's an exciting headline! Temperature has been okay-ish in general here but it says "less showers"!!!! I've gone all giddy 😂

Hope you've had a lovely break Gloria.

GloriaSmud · 17/06/2024 18:39

It's been lovely Pixiedust1234 ~ bit of a 'spur of the moment/let's go away for a few days' thing!

There might be the odd shower/rubbish rain day/thunderstorm in the next few weeks but please yes, let this be the start of summer! 🙏😎

Was miserable here this morning. Spitting rain, husband has man flu. Washing in tumble dryer weather. Had lunch, fell asleep. Woke up two hours later to brilliant sunshine. Still that wretched chilly wind though. Fingers crossed warmer tomorrow then I'll sit outside

Noosnom · 17/06/2024 22:24

My sweetcorn and tomatoes are not growing at all. I had a grim dose of covid last week and this weekend my heating broke.
Yay for summer 2024 🙄.

I think I'd take somewhere with guns / earthquakes / snakes / no seasons over this grey blanket of damp and cold.

justasking111 · 17/06/2024 23:06

Left all our tomatoes in the conservatory until mid may. They're now sulking in the greenhouse. I'm tempted to bring one back in.

rewilded · 18/06/2024 07:40

Forecast has now changed from partial sun all week to warm with no sun. Confused

My tomatoes are the stunted.

When Covid broke and lockdown started we had clear blue skies in March - When we ceased moving and planes were grounded. I don't recognise this cloud cover. Dense grey cloud, layer upon layer. This is definintely something new.

Lovely day again...

RafaistheKingofClay · 18/06/2024 10:48

Gorgeous day here. Am taking my rain coat to work though because I don’t trust it not to rain.

MotherOfCatBoy · 18/06/2024 16:19

Our days seem to have a pattern of lovely sunshine in the morning - breakfast outside - and then they sort of grey up by lunchtime, and clear in the evening. So right now there’s a lid of grey cloud between us and the sun… I’m more cheerful because this morning was glorious, but I wish we could count on prolonged sunshine.
