I was out and about in my (Northern) town today and many people were wearing padded jackets, coats with fur trimmed hoods, scarves and/or woolly hats! None of us were dressed for the summer. It was quite warm in the sun but not at all in the shade.

gingercat02 · 05/06/2024 20:50

Oh, I just found you all. Happy "Summer" if 10-15°c and torrential showers count.
I'm away from the frozen north for a couple of days, in Cambridge, which I expected to be warm and sunny. Noooo! Sunny and 15 today, 17 and raining tomorrow. Luckily, I packed socks and a coat 😪
I'm drinking M&S canned cocktails in my v nice hotel room, so it's not all bad.

Delatron · 05/06/2024 21:14

Every time I check the forecast for next week it gets colder and colder. At one point it was going to be 24 degrees next Thursday that has now changed to 15 degrees. In mid June.

EmeraldRoulette · 05/06/2024 21:34

@gingercat02 it is indeed lucky you did!

@socks1107 Re variations by region, I'm used to checking by postcode and it was ever so good in the recent past. A previous boss used to cycle to work and would decide if a late or early departure might make for a nicer ride.

It's definitely going to be something else that got buggered up by a new computer method.

The strangely hot half hour was just that! It quickly became cold again.

I'm just going to assume cold and if they forecast a heatwave, that might mean we get 20c!

socks1107 · 06/06/2024 10:07

Another beautiful morning here, back doors open and washing out. If summer stayed at this temp and sunshine I'd be thrilled!

EmeraldRoulette · 06/06/2024 11:34

@socks1107 what temp have you got please?

Monday now forecast with a high of 9.

Monday now forecast with a high of 9.

It says 15 degrees. So not really warm but the sun is shining which is making it feel so nice!

Delatron · 06/06/2024 12:02

The sun is nice but it can be 13 degrees in Dec/Jan so 15 doesn’t feel very summer like.

At least it’s dry. I’m trying to pretend it’s April so I’m less cross.

It will be the longest day soon - I’d like it to be warm enough to sit out in the evening and enjoy it! Before it’s bloody dark again.

MermaidEyes · 06/06/2024 12:30

It definitely feels like April showers, that's basically lasted since April....
I don't want stupid scorching temperatures, I'll go abroad for that where I have a nice cold pool to jump into. I just want early 20s and sunshine, where I can go out confidently knowing I don't need my parka and umbrella.

socks1107 · 06/06/2024 12:39

I think the sun being so nice has been deceptive of the temperature but just having the sunshine is lovely.
I've read July will be warm so summer will come I'm sure

GloriaSmud · 06/06/2024 12:46

'Tis not great temperature-wise for June and the GFS says more of the same, along with showers for the next few weeks😭My winter scarves are not being put away yet!

Scottish mountains have had a covering of snow in the last few days.

right....I was thinking it can't be that warm, otherwise I'd go visit where you are!

as pp said, all I'm after is 20+ with no need for warm jacket and brolly. I don't want a heatwave.

i heard people in other parts of the country got that strange 30 mins of heat yesterday evening as well.

justasking111 · 06/06/2024 13:31

Sun out but a cold wind, towels and a rug blowing in the wind. If I went out I'd be hunkering down in a sheltered corner.

EmeraldRoulette · 06/06/2024 15:20

I have seen photographic evidence of sun in Hertfordshire. I suppose it's good to know it still works!

KeepScrapingBy · 06/06/2024 17:16

Don’t know about anyone else but I feel a bit “gaslit” by the weather reports. They’re telling us how lovely and warm May was, to prepare us for a cooler and more unsettled June. But I don’t remember May being warm, it was cloudy and dull for a lot of the time.

EmeraldRoulette · 06/06/2024 17:57

@KeepScrapingBy Thank you for saying that.

The reason I seem to be really irritable on here is partly the gaslighting.

I know it doesn't fit their agenda to tell the truth.

But is it really too much to ask for an accurate weather forecast for the day - we've had those for years! Decades even. I miss them.

Delatron · 07/06/2024 08:45

Next week looks dire (if they have it right). Especially Monday and Tuesday.

The only good thing is that the sun has some heat to it when it comes out.

justasking111 · 07/06/2024 15:40

I decided to sunbathe at 2pm, just come in, blowing a hoolie, clouds scudding across the sky, some dark and heavy with rain. Ah well I got an hour and a half of sun.

EmeraldRoulette · 07/06/2024 18:20

@justasking111 Sunbathe? I have to ask....what was the temp?

Got about 2 hours of sun this morning I think, but it was only about 16. I might be wrong how long it lasted as I was on the Tube for some of it.

justasking111 · 07/06/2024 18:24

It was around 16c but it's a little bit of decking off the conservatory, very sheltered so I lay down in shorts and a bikini top reading a book. But when the wind got up it was a cold breeze, then it got cloudy so I gave up.

EmeraldRoulette · 07/06/2024 18:35

@justasking111 I was in warm trousers, quarter sleeve top and raincoat but that's normal for me in 16 😂

I like to know the temp because to me it would have to be at least 25 for shorts. So when posters say "it was really warm" I now realise that's not the same definition I have by a long way!

justasking111 · 07/06/2024 18:41

Oh I couldn't have walked around in them, too cold for that. But like a cat a sunny sheltered corner will do me 🤣

Delatron · 07/06/2024 18:46

I found a sunny, sheltered spot on my decking this morning to sunbathe! It was only about 15 degrees but the sun was warm. I think that’s why they are struggling to forecast correctly - the difference when the sun is in or out is huge.

MotherOfCatBoy · 07/06/2024 21:14

Similar here - warm start, then the wind got up and it clouded over, rained lunchtime, and the sun came out again late afternoon. Feels like the promised nice day is stolen by cloud bubbling up.

justasking111 · 08/06/2024 12:31

Windy but sunny, I'm back in my cat loving spot for now rain forecast later
