As we’re a few weeks away from the start of meteorological Winter (1st December), some weather websites have some thoughts on what the weather might have in store for us over the next few months.

The Weather Outlook started very early, in September Xmas Shock but October's thoughts are here ~ The Weather Outlook.
And Netweather’s thoughts are here.

GFS has turned a bit bonkers and brings in the most stonking cold Beast From the East for around the 9th. It's an outlier though.

Nope. I have got a lot to pack in between now and Christmas. So I am going to pretend I haven't read this!

While everyone else hangs out on the snow thread, I’ll sit here with Biblical amounts of rain. Floods everywhere, including in the bus.

Desecratedcoconut · 04/12/2023 12:57

All our snow is washed away ( with the exception of degrading snowmen who are still trying to hang on in there) and we are now under a yellow warning for rain.

justasking111 · 04/12/2023 13:17

North Wales we've got rain for days

gingercat02 · 04/12/2023 14:13

Yep back to wet and gray here too 😢

Ah, the wet and grey only bothers me when it continues in to March and I feel like I've earned a spring.

MotherOfCatBoy · 04/12/2023 16:27

Rain and more rain here, South Wales. I hate it. I mean I know Wales is meant to be rainy, but bloody hell. Enough now.

Agreed 😭

I was enjoying the sunny, cold, crisp days. Can’t cope with this incessant rain. Doesn’t look like it will improve any time soon and flood warnings back out for local rivers. How anyone can like this weather is beyond me!

megletthesecond · 04/12/2023 19:16

I've crumbled and started using the tumble dryer today. We aren't getting enough cold dry winter days to put washing out.

IN the bus?? 😱

And yes, we've had to use the pump to stop the patio/garden water from sneaking into the house. The lawn is a treacherous bog, very green looking but you disappear up to your knees if you dare stand on it.

RafaistheKingofClay · 05/12/2023 08:39

Yep. Flooding all over the place here and it comes under the door when the bus drives through them.

Loads of roads now closed and looks like the trains are screwed due to flooding too.

After a couple of clear bright days, a freezing fog day, a blowing snow day and a crisp with high clouds day (so quite bright just not quite sunny), we are back to dull, grey, low clouds and rain in Brussels. Above freezing but quite cool - I'd say 6-8 degrees.

EmmaEmerald · 05/12/2023 15:24

Any thoughts on longer term weather forecast? This cold is pissing me right off. Based in Essex.

My brain doesn't work in winter so I forgot what I was meant to do today as well. Very grateful for no snow yet though I live in fear till end of March!

Delatron · 05/12/2023 15:32

I think it’s quite mild and wet at the moment? My least favourite weather for winter! Though it looks even milder this weekend. Still wet.

Prefer the cold sunny days. Apart from the heating bills.

It's allegedly 7, but realfeel 3 where I am. Cloud cover not changed temp at all.

grass67 · 05/12/2023 16:02

NOOOO I can't even think about a beast from the east. It's so cold, my house is not warm and the sun makes a huge difference, the last two days have been cloudy 😫Met office predicting 9 degrees in a few days, which will be a huge improvement over this.

EmmaEmerald · 05/12/2023 16:05

I'm not sure how accurate the forecast is....in flats, to some extent, you do benefit from other people's heating.

But this afternoon, the temp in my flat has dropped to lower than it was on days that were allegedly colder. It's colder now than this morning and I've had the oven as well.

i agree 9 will be a huge improvement but why they think today is 7 is beyond me.

Yeah, I think it just feels mild to me as it was so cold last week. And I didn’t need gloves running! But I have put my heating on early today.

grass67 · 05/12/2023 16:23

@EmmaEmerald Maybe your neighbours are away for a few days? I had a flat once and downstairs was empty for a long time, it made a huge difference.

It was forecast 2 degrees here and it's minus something tonight. I'm rural on a hill so it's always a few degrees below forecast.

I've turned my bed into a lovely warm nest 😂 lots of faux fur blankets, duvet and wool blankets on top, hot water bottle. I'd rather be snuggled up and warm.

EmmaEmerald · 05/12/2023 16:37

@grass67 sadly I can hear them, so I know they're here.

but I do notice when others are away, yes. I don't really remember last winter because mum was so ill, was it this cold?

I can never work out the economics of a small heater in a small flat....it was a no brainer in my old place because the electric heating kind of got warm whether yiu used it or not. Now I'm on a gas boiler, am I better getting a little heater?

i've got a huge cardboard box left over from moving and have put it up against the balcony door! For once my laziness has paid off, lol.

Delatron · 05/12/2023 16:51

It was really cold last Dec. I remember it well. Like minus figures in the day. I do think it’s forecast to get milder over the next few weeks from Thursday. But wet also.

Desecratedcoconut · 05/12/2023 16:53

Yes, there was definitely a cold stint last year complete with wave of busted water pipes.
