As we’re a few weeks away from the start of meteorological Winter (1st December), some weather websites have some thoughts on what the weather might have in store for us over the next few months.

The Weather Outlook started very early, in September Xmas Shock but October's thoughts are here ~ The Weather Outlook.
And Netweather’s thoughts are here.

Just looking at the GFS, it's looking a little ❄❄at the moment for some at the end of next week ~ Xmas Smile <<woolly hats definitely needed!
The metoffice has picked up on the possibility of something wintry/colder coming in their long range forecast as well ~

Thursday, 28th November - Thursday 7th December
Colder than average conditions are most likely overall, as chances of some wintry showers, or even more general snow towards the turn of the month, are increasing. Cloud and rain is likely to be clearing southeastern England early on, followed by a period of widely colder, drier and brighter weather and the return of overnight frosts. Scattered showers along with an overnight ice risk may affect some coastal areas of northern and eastern Scotland, and eastern England at times, which could turn increasingly wintry over hills in the north. These conditions could then persist, particularly in the north, but there is an increasing chance of areas of cloud, rain and/or snow, perhaps with strong winds too, spreading north across at least southern areas from later next week.

Would love snow but even if it's cold, dry and relatively quiet that's good for me!

Do I dare to hope? The showers will be coming off the North Sea, so maybe I could be in luck.

Pays to be an optimist ❄️❄️🎉🎉🎉😁

It is Baltic here today. 5c, feels like 1c. It was like 13c last night 🤷

It’s -2, here on the South Coast. Our first frost of the winter.

justasking111 · 25/11/2023 09:44

First frost in N Wales. I shall be wrapping christmas presents and writing cards in front of the 🔥 today.

While for many it is milder today, it will become colder again tomorrow. The main snow risk starts on Thursday where both GFS and ECM show a risk of snow in the south into the midlands and Wales, away from the coast. They both model a low moving in from the Azores, bumping into cold air.

As always, early days and so there is big uncertainty as to whether this will happen.

justasking111 · 26/11/2023 09:17

I'm trying to get all the Christmas online present shopping done with and delivered by Thursday the backlogs at the sorting office whenever postie can't deliver are dreadful. I'll stock up on food bits too. Looking like this cold snap will be long lasting.

DH has me on alert that even when I can book flights home, I may not get there with weather this winter - he had a feeling a few weeks back and was remembering 2009/10 and 10/11, when he was doing a lot of travel and had a lot of disruption. To the extent that he got the last flight leaving Heathrow on a Friday en route from Madrid and needed to come home from a trip to London (Stansted) the following week via train and ferry as all flights cancelled, and my 2 DBs got home for Christmas also by ferry and driving from London (1 from Canada was changing plane and the other lived in London).

So I am learning options using Eurostar and ferries through UK. Just in case.

I wondered where you were all hiding. It's been very cold the last two mornings, yesterday was registering -2 at 9am brrrrrr

GFS has turned a bit bonkers and brings in the most stonking cold Beast From the East for around the 9th. It's an outlier though.
