As we’re a few weeks away from the start of meteorological Winter (1st December), some weather websites have some thoughts on what the weather might have in store for us over the next few months.

The Weather Outlook started very early, in September Xmas Shock but October's thoughts are here ~ The Weather Outlook.
And Netweather’s thoughts are here.

Ah. I've just been on Netweather and see we (Newcastle) are in the top 4 for todays 'top 20 gusts' at 63mph.

I'm in Whitley Bay just been out for a few items missing from the food shop. It is unpleasantly windy out there!
No Christmas Eve beach walk today 😔

I'm a mile inland from Whitley Bay. Just taken a short drive down and parked in St Mary's Lighthouse car park. The car felt like it was going to take off, so we didn't get out. There were people walking across the causeway, though! We just took some pics from the car.

Good. Heartily fed up of mild, wet and windy.

justasking111 · 26/12/2023 07:51

We turned the heating off the last few days. We've both been uncomfortably hot. It only comes on in the morning now. The log burner with the sitting room door left open is sufficient.

It's unpleasant wet, humid and unseasonably warm. Friends in the USA are fed up with it too. El Nino has been miserable for many

RainbowZebraWarrior · 26/12/2023 08:02

Only 1 degree here on the NE coast of England this morning, so normal Christmas temps are resumed. The wind has been never ending, so I hope that's gone too.

gingercat02 · 26/12/2023 10:09

Indeed, It's cold but a gorgeous morning here.
I'm off to the beach while the men of the house are at the match. Looks like rain until I go back to work next week, with the possible exception of Friday

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2023 18:30

Winter does thankfully seem to be knocking on the door in the next couple of weeks. Probably generally only for the north to start with I think, though some models have got a little over excited and bring in a snow fest for the first week back at school. It does seem reasonably likely(ish) that cold weather might be on the cards properly by the middle of the month. Hopefully!

HighlandCowbag · 31/12/2023 18:52

Can it be cold and dry 🙏. Have horses and so, so, so, sick of rain and mud. Mud and rain. Rain and mud.

I've even started wanting it to be windy to try and dry the land up a bit. Last 2 winters in oir current field had barely any mud. This year its vile. Luckily the ponies only use it for a leg stretch so aren't stood in it very long but I don't know how people without stables/hardstanding are coping.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/12/2023 19:12

I sincerely hope that we will be going into cold and dry soon, but weve another deep low pressure on Tuesday to get through. Looking ptentially very windy in the south, with some heavy rain in places too, probably through the Midlands and into East Anglia I think.

Notonthestairs · 31/12/2023 19:21

Sounds like excellent going back to work weather 😬 The rain has felt relentless.

justasking111 · 31/12/2023 21:33

Please god let's have dry weather. How do people in countries with monsoon season stay sane

RafaistheKingofClay · 31/12/2023 22:04

Another request for dry weather please. garden is starting look like a bog. I wanted to start getting it sorted out this winter.

Happy New Year all! Hopefully in a weeks time things will be calmer and colder.

justasking111 · 01/01/2024 08:52

Happy New year all. Thanks for all the knowledge imparted on here in 2023.

thesandwich · 01/01/2024 12:15

Happy new year! Thank you @GloriaSmud and @OhYouBadBadKitten for sharing all your wisdom!

RainbowZebraWarrior · 01/01/2024 13:24

Happy New Year all, but particularly to Kitten and Gloria for their services to weather forecasting (that's the MN equivalent of a New Year's honour, there)

Beautiful day so far here on NE coast of England. Bright sunshine and birds singing which is just delightful.

Temp due to drop to 2 degrees tonight so the yule log will be burned on the stove.

That sounds gorgeous Rainbow.

Updated the warnings thread. Again. sigh.

gingercat02 · 01/01/2024 13:34

Gorgeous day indeed @RainbowZebraWarrior
DS did the NYD dip at Whitley Bay this morning. His first time at 15. Nothing on this earth would get me in the North Sea in the winter

RainbowZebraWarrior · 01/01/2024 13:54

@gingercat02 Well done your DS! I used to berate myself for not joining in with the NYD dip. I admire the folk who do so, but I stick happily to the odd plodge in summer time (which as you'll know is still cold enough to make your ankle bones scream out in pain) Lovely day for it, though. More of the same would be good eh?

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/01/2024 22:50

Another day another warning for wind and rain. <sigh>

Difficult to imagine that I was researching what was the best drought resistant grass to reseed the lawn with 3 months ago.

I was thinking the same thing. Seems it's been raining hard against the window every night for ages.

I'm sure we need the rain ahead of the summer. But it's so dull!!

RafaistheKingofClay · 02/01/2024 10:51

My New Year’s resolution to get outside and walk everyday whatever the weather is going to be tested I think.

Suppose I should be thankful we didn’t get the tornado the next village did.
