As we’re a few weeks away from the start of meteorological Winter (1st December), some weather websites have some thoughts on what the weather might have in store for us over the next few months.

The Weather Outlook started very early, in September Xmas Shock but October's thoughts are here ~ The Weather Outlook.
And Netweather’s thoughts are here.

Thanks for the thread Gloria 🥰
The front page of the Star predicts Christmas snow so it must be true!

Lifestooshort71 · 20/11/2023 07:07

Hi everybody. Overnight 6th December last year, we had a massive snowfall and the temps were so low that the deep drifts remained most of the week.

That is only 2 weeks away!

I remember it well as I had to get myself to a hospital 40 mins away every day for radiotherapy - could have done with some huskies!

GloriaSmud · 20/11/2023 07:26

hoochycrone ~ 😆if that's what the Star says, I'll go with that over what the weather models and the metoffice say any day!

Lifestooshort71 ~ I tend to find that most years, around the 6th December, there seems to be a cold snap that involves frost or snow and then it gets milder again. So we'll see what happens this year!

The models all continue with a colder theme from around the weekend. Chilly and much calmer/drier. Little in the way of snow prospects.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/11/2023 12:50

GFS has decided to throw in a snow solution for Saturday as it models a low pressure to the SW bumping into cold air. This of course will send various newspapers into an ecstasy of excitement. Ignore them for the time being.

justasking111 · 20/11/2023 13:12

Thanks @OhYouBadBadKitten

Being in the West of Wales we hardly ever see snow (stamps foot)

InMySpareTime · 20/11/2023 13:17

@justasking111 you have my sympathy, I'm under the Manchester Snow Shield so very rarely see it here either.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/11/2023 14:02

Manchester has seen a lot more snow in the past few years than my location has. Wink

InMySpareTime · 20/11/2023 14:25

Not my bit of it. Even when North/central Manchester gets snow it seems to miss us here in the Mersey valley.

InMySpareTime · 20/11/2023 14:29

We had 3 light dustings of snow last winter. 10th and 14th of December and 19th January.

BouleBaker · 21/11/2023 06:34

We are also in a snow no go area. In a port in a bowl so there can be snow all around us and we get nothing. My children are very cross about this.

Vintagevixen · 21/11/2023 08:21

Such a lovely day in East Sussex today - cold and still, silvery winter sky. I'm loving it. Literally my perfect winter weather - only snow would improve it!!

megletthesecond · 21/11/2023 21:44

I went for a jog this evening (hampshire) and the footpaths and leaves are finally drying up and less slippy.
Non-urgent laundry out overnight too.

BiddyPop · 22/11/2023 07:35

I think it has rained 13 out of the past 14 days in Brussels, and most of those were heavy rain days. I thought I was set up for it but realised I need to buy some boots and some shoe polish/brushes this weekend. My poor shoes!

It's definitely colder than Dublin generally but due to dip today/tomorrow to low single digits.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/11/2023 19:32

I think I might be starting to get just a little excited by this evenings models. (just a little though Xmas Wink) The GEFS ensembles are converging on colder weather and an interesting little low pressure is modeled to perhaps bring some snow showers into eastern areas next week.

Not time to polish sledges, but it looks like it's time to dig out hats and gloves.

Desecratedcoconut · 22/11/2023 19:54

I'm North East! <Does a victory lap/ starts polishing sleds>

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/11/2023 20:57

Grin No. No polishing yet! [stern face with hands on hips]

GloriaSmud · 22/11/2023 21:40

Ooo 'tis looking colder for the weekend ~ good job I asked last week for some winter coats for current FosterDog. He's not got much fur and is already finding things a bit chilly!

Netweather's thoughts for this weekend.

<looks over shoulder and gives a quick polish to the sledge while OYBBK isn't looking!>

A cold and frosty start for this weekend

Cold Arctic air will make its way southwards through the UK before the weekend. There will be cold frosty starts but a good deal of dry weather as the chilly wind eases during Saturday.

Grin Gloria

I'd start making sure you have your polishing rags out of the cupboard now. Confused Towards the end of next week is looking very interesting.

justasking111 · 23/11/2023 21:37

OYBBK

Do you wanna build a ☃️☃️. 😂😂

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/11/2023 21:39

I'd be the happiest woman if I could build a snowman. Grin

InMySpareTime · 23/11/2023 21:40

There's a very familiar gap in that snow map 😞

justasking111 · 23/11/2023 21:47

InMySpareTime · 23/11/2023 21:40

There's a very familiar gap in that snow map 😞

We'll probably only get a little on the coast but we head inland with sledges and snowboards

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/11/2023 21:51

Please don't take one map, a week away as any sort of promise that a place will or won't get snow. It's just one run of one model.
