As we’re a few weeks away from the start of meteorological Winter (1st December), some weather websites have some thoughts on what the weather might have in store for us over the next few months.

The Weather Outlook started very early, in September Xmas Shock but October's thoughts are here ~ The Weather Outlook.
And Netweather’s thoughts are here.

We have rain coming through an upstairs window at the top . Seems to be gutter overflow rather than roof related . Just spent a hideous half hour up a ladder on top of our garage pulling out moss that the bloody magpies have put in there

It's tipping down but not windy yet in north Hampshire

JaneIves · 22/02/2024 17:34

The air temp has dropped here by 7 degrees, within half an hour of collecting my daughter then putting my pup out for a wee!

justasking111 · 22/02/2024 23:26

We've had hail tonight, further west sleet. It's colder tonight

I'm so sick of this rain (SE)
It feels like it's rained non stop for months. My garden is a literal bog.

I need to reseed the bits of lawn the builders have destroyed. I’m considering turning it into a paddy field.

Beautiful couple of days here. I hung washing out yesterday, but it was probably too late, so I've hung some out earlier today. Birds are going crazy. Possibly still too cold, but god loves a trier.

I see the Internet has gone full on crazy with a warning about a 'snowbomb' to hit the UK on March 9 / 10.

Disturbia81 · 25/02/2024 14:32

Love this cold, love not sweating.

Notonthestairs · 25/02/2024 15:24

I have missed this 😬 fingers crossed it's nothing.

The long-range forecast from the metoffice raises the possibility of wintry stuff. I think it will 'flip flop' between mild and wintry at times, as it usually does at this time of year.....

Friday 1st-Sunday 10th March
It will become cooler and more unsettled from Friday and through the weekend with temperatures a little below average. Areas of showers sometimes banding together for longer spells of rain, this heavy at times and likely to turn wintry, even a lower levels and some snow accumulations are likely over higher ground, particularly in the west. Clearer spells overnight with some frost or fog patches developing. Into the following week, the pattern likely returning to occasional frontal systems affecting more northern and western areas with some more settled spells developing in eastern areas as settled conditions spread out from northern Europe. Remaining around average temperatures for the time of year though some short-lived colder interludes remain likely.

Monday 11th-Monday 25th March
Increasing likelihood that a more blocked weather pattern will persist with more settled conditions most likely affecting the east with winds favouring a more south or south-westerly direction at the start of this period, bringing most rainfall across western areas and more typically drier to the east. Late in the period location of this more settled block liable to migrate over the UK possibly leading to more northerly or easterly winds, but any dip in temperatures mitigated by increasing day lengths into late March. Temperatures are likely to be near or slightly above normal overall, with occasional night frosts, but values will fluctuate as weather systems come and go.

<whispers>

I think I have spotted 3 days in the forecast with no rain this week. Once we get out of this yellow rain warning it may be OK until Thursday.

I won’t hold my breath and will be unsurprised if the met office sends me another rain warning in that time.

GloriaSmud · 25/02/2024 20:29

RafaistheKingofClay <lowers voice> yes, best not shout that you've got some rain-free days otherwise the weather Gods will hear!

Lovely big bit of blue sky here. Bit windy still but that’s blowing the remaining grey clouds away quickly.

RafaistheKingofClay · 28/02/2024 11:06

It appears to be raining again. Obviously didn’t have until Thursday.

LittleCrackers · 28/02/2024 15:24

Snowflakes have appeared on my android weather app for Friday night...

It's icing sugar from that doughnut you had earlier. Try cleaning your screen.

Just been woken up by the sound of the wind and rain. Somehow managed to miss the warnings for wind and rain.

Really enough is enough now.

GloriaSmud · 01/03/2024 05:59

RafaistheKingofClay ~ oh yes (where did they come from) warnings for wind, rain and snow for parts of Northern Ireland.

I think we're all a bit numb to it now and just looking hopefully at the symbols on weather apps (which I know aren't that reliable), just looking for days when there aren't any rain symbols. It is looking drier next week at the moment......🙏

Crisp sunny morning here, a little bit of melting frost. Happy Spring weather watchers

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2024 08:22

This way for Spring... ---> https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weather/5005454-spring-2024

Will put in winter summaries here as they appear (for posterity?) but it looks to have been wetter, warmer and duller than average. Especially in the south where some parts have had around double their average rainfall.

Spring 2024 | Mumsnet

Although cold, snowy weather is still possible, we are a few weeks away from the start of meteorological spring (1st March) So here are some thoughts...
