As we’re a few weeks away from the start of meteorological Winter (1st December), some weather websites have some thoughts on what the weather might have in store for us over the next few months.

The Weather Outlook started very early, in September Xmas Shock but October's thoughts are here ~ The Weather Outlook.
And Netweather’s thoughts are here.

What's graupel?

It's that precipitation that looks like small, round polystyrene balls. Cross between snow and hail I think.

GFS returns a powerful jet stream over us towards the end of next week, with the possibility of some stormy weather.

Anybody there. Our local paper says that the met office have issued a 27 hour flood rain warning. Last night our heating didn't kick in, this morning I shopped in a blouse was too warm in a cardigan so removed. I'm thinking because of the mizzle we've had all morning the humidity is high. The ⛅ breaking through now.

Off to check the Noah's ark warning.

I'm just about to properly poke a toe outside after having the dreaded Covid for the past week. My mate told me on the phone this morning that he was out walking in just a t shirt as it was so warm. I did take something to the bin earlier and thought feck that! 11 degrees here, and whilst it's sunny, it feels colder due to a 'moderate breeze' aka the never ending bloody wind of the NE coast.

It could be that im feeling it due to still being a bit off colour. Keen to get some fresh air regardless thoough, so I'm going to have a 5 minute tidy up in the garden.

Good for you @RainbowZebraWarrior a bit of pottering does help

GloriaSmud · 16/02/2024 16:47

justasking111 ~ Metoffice weather warning from 3pm tomorrow until 6pm Sunday.

It is becoming a bit like Noah's Ark now. Just when I think it can't rain any more....it does.....

While it looks like a long lasting warning, the south east and east anglia should have a full usuable day tomorrow in daylight hours and I think that lots of Sunday looks fine once the rain clears through to the SE. I'm not really sure why the overall warning lasts so long on Sunday.

Doctor Foster went to Gloucester
In a shower of rain,
He stepped in a puddle,
Right up to his middle,
And never went there again.

Why is it so hot @GloriaSmud

GloriaSmud · 17/02/2024 06:37

justasking111 ~ I think (and OYBBK might correct me if I get any of this wrong/add more to it), that it’s because we’ve been getting our weather from a ‘warm’ direction i.e. the south/ south-west.) If we get cold, it usually comes from the north/north-east or east (hence why we had ‘The Beast from the East’ a few years ago), where that direction at this time of year, is usually colder.

Well it's foxing mother nature. The birds are eating like they're building nests and making whoopee. The bushes are waking up too early.

Crops are rotting

It'll all end in tears I tell ya

GloriaSmud · 17/02/2024 13:58

justasking111 Grin ~ a BBC WeatherWatcher had a photo of earlier than usual frog spawn, used yesterday on our local news. I've just noticed a couple of frogs in our pond this morning in a 'frog cuddle' so I know what's coming next!

I used to plant a load of onion bulbs at the allotment in the autumn each year but stopped as they just kept rotting in the ground. I now do them in trays of compost and plant them out in March/April time ~ hopefully when the ground has dried out a bit!

The toads are out too. Friend has been picking them up and putting them back in the sheltered parts of her land. They're flaunting themselves outside her back door.

I had the noisiest one ever outside my back door the other night. They usually live at the bottom end of the garden where it's boggy. I tried to see where it was, but it was dark. The last time I saw one was the beginning of Autumn, where one jumped out at me from behind the wheely bin. I think they have all decamped to my garden in recent years as the rest of the street has either block paved or artificial grassed their gardens bit by bit.

I've been away from the internet today. I see that the warning area has been significantly reduced southwards and finishes at 9am.

Thank goodness for that. We've just had spit spots of rain today rather than a deluge

megletthesecond · 19/02/2024 08:35

Saw a butterfly yesterday. I hope it gets itself tucked up before the temperature drops again.

justasking111 · 19/02/2024 08:59

The seagulls have appeared on our house rooves again. Will have to keep an eye out for nest building.

Netweather's thoughts on the weather for this week. Towards the end of the week, it's looking colder ~ back to nighttime frosts and the chance of ❄for some areas.

Lovely and sunny here today (Leicester), hopefully the garden can dry out a bit before Wednesday, when the next lot of rain arrives. (I'm wondering whether there might be some wind and rain warnings issued.)

The very mild air fades later this week with blustery wind and rain for Wednesday

A look at the week ahead with a shift away from this mild southerly flow. Widespread wind and rain midweek, then cooler and showery from the west/northwest.

Cooler would help, the black Labrador puppy is moulting so much. I need to hoover every day. Beige carpet in the bedroom, our slippers are tramping it in, dust bunnies on the hard floors. I'd like to put her through the washing machine 🤬

This 😂
Love him but not the hair

justasking111 · 20/02/2024 10:36

I took a clean plate out of the cupboard to put my crumpet on, clean knife, there was a dog hair on it. Brushed her again last night which she hates 😂

Turned the heating off in the evening because we were too hot in bed every night. We both slept so much better. Lit the log burner for a bit used two logs.

I've updated the weather warnings thread. https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weather/4926544-autumnwinter-weather-warnings?page=2&reply=133174761
Ill start the Spring warnings thread once warnings start being issued for 1st March onwards.

Thursday may see some thunder/squally weather I think as a cold front sweeps across Wales, the Midlands and the south.

Page 5 | Autumn/Winter weather warnings | Mumsnet

Given the ongoing flood situation in some parts of Scotland and England, it seems tidiest to create a weather warnings thread, rather than posting man...
