As we're a few weeks away from the start of meteorological autumn (1st September), some early thoughts here.

Too much rain to see anything much in these skies!

countrygirl99 · 18/09/2023 20:29

My son isn't in the UK and is in a city about the size of Milton Keynes which makes me even more jealous. For those who know MK it's like being able to see them from a flat in Wolverton or Newport Pagnell.

justasking111 · 19/09/2023 08:46

Gale blowing now. Wind gusts 98 kph. That's going to cause an issue with trees in full leaf around here. Lots of rain for the next few days. Time to dig out my autumnal coats.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/09/2023 09:20

Things could get pretty interesting this evening and into tonight, from the SE then moving up as a squall line is modeled to form. This could bring some heavy squally rain and perhaps some damaging wind gusts for a brief time.

InMySpareTime · 20/09/2023 09:43

We've had to take the fabric off our awning this morning as it was shaking itself to death in the blustery wind.

Our squall came through in the early hours. Our pharmacy is just off the sea front was battling rain and wind this morning. Now it's sunny and still. A yacht on the river yesterday the mainsail unravelled and shredded itself yesterday. The owner was lucky the sail didn't pick up the wind 🙈

That should have had "they're struggling a bit with landings in the blustery winds at Heathrow" with the above post!

It's raining and breezy in North Hampshire.

I've finally given in and put on a sweater - but only a cotton one.

I'm still hoping for another two weeks of warm golden days after misty mornings.🙏

Thurlarder · 20/09/2023 17:03

Looks mild in the south west for the foreseeable future. Hate it!

Why. It's saving on heating bills

Vintagevixen · 20/09/2023 17:41

@Thurlarder me too! I am yearning for cool conditions. Want my Autumn back (stamps foot) so I can wrap up in coats and jumpers. I seem to be so hot all the time - this crazy humidity isn't helping either.

Delatron · 20/09/2023 17:42

Can’t wait to spend hundreds a month more on heating bills. Yay.

RafaistheKingofClay · 20/09/2023 18:05

I don’t mind what it is as long as it stops remaining. I need it dry enough for the builders to do the work they need to do to stop the water leaking into the kitchen ceiling every time it rains.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/09/2023 20:10

I got my directions reversed this morning of course I meant heading into the SE. Blush Sorry, was very sleep deprived.

Thurlarder · 21/09/2023 09:41

I really hate mild weather. I like it freezing cold. Desperate for some lovely frost!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/09/2023 13:05

Worryingly, it looks like there is a lot heavy more rain to come. First in the form of heavy showers and thunderstorms through today. Then Sunday we start to see effects from ex-Nigel with potential for more prolonged torrential rain.

Expect to see a lot of flood warnings in the coming days.
Keep an eye on both the Met Office and the Environment Agency.

OH tootled off on his bike this morning t-shirt and shorts. Arrived back teeth chattering. He's gone back out now to do some fishing suitably attired. Our forecast tomorrow wet and wild. I might mention painting the bedroom 😂😂

Driving from Bristol to Manchester Friday night and back again Sunday morning. Why is it always pissing it down whenever we do a long drive!

Because you're traveling from the west coast to the Manchester basin weather wise

EducatingArti · 21/09/2023 14:01

The river Eden in Carlisle has burst its banks.

Tricyrtis2022 · 21/09/2023 16:11

We had some properly torrential showers in west Oxfordshire today. For the one this afternoon I was working outside, so stood under a covered bin store till it eased off. I'd put my tools under there too, but the rain was so heavy the gutters and down pipes were overwhelmed and a sudden geyser shot up from the base of one down pipe and soaked my gloves and some tools. It was quite impressive.

GloriaSmud · 22/09/2023 07:39

6C here (Leicester) this morning. Might have to consider putting the heating on but DH's holding out ~ he says to wait another few weeks. It's alright for him and DD1 ~ they don't feel the cold!

The next week looks pretty autumnal. Sunday could see some pretty lively weather at times as fronts generate from ex-Nigel. Wednesday looks like it could be a pretty blowy day too.
