As we're a few weeks away from the start of meteorological autumn (1st September), some early thoughts here.

All change to autumn this weekend! An unsettled second half of the week as colder airmass sweeps in. By the weekend, day time temperatures much closer to normal and chilly at night, with the risk of frost in the north and in higher parts of Wales. Some hill snow in Scotland by saturday.

Lonesomefetter · 10/10/2023 13:20

Thank fuck for that, sick of the grey mild.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/10/2023 15:48

Somewhere in England has reached over 25c for four days in a row now. The last time that happened in October was 1959. It shows how unusual this pattern is. Again.

This morning had to go to the hospital was strolling along in a thin blouse enjoying the warmth when I realised that the pavement was covered in pretty autumn leaves which had fallen finally. Surreal.

justasking111 · 10/10/2023 16:47

My bougainvillia has produced red bracts for the fourth time in the conservatory.

Vintagevixen · 10/10/2023 18:43

Some chilly weather at long long last - hooray!

SequentialAnalyst · 10/10/2023 18:52

A blackberry bush near me (NE England) has one of its canes in flowerConfused
The fabulous snowfalls of yesteryear are long gone Sad
But at least we are shielded from the rain by the Cheviots, the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the Yorkshire Moors Smile

InMySpareTime · 10/10/2023 19:05

The neighbour's magnolia is in flower again, as is my lavender.

Solidarity. It's been muggy but I've needed walking boots/socks as the grass is soaking early morning. Leaves me a sweaty mess.

To add to my previous post re rain and NE England:
As my DM was taught at school in the later 1930s, British weather consists partly of "Warm, wet, Westerly winds in Winter."

Edited

I grew up in the south east. Married in Wales had children. I feel that they've been deprived of snow every winter because Wales is just wet and warm. 😢

SequentialAnalyst · 10/10/2023 23:02

I originate in SE London. But have been up North for over 50 years.
Wales surely used to be snowy way back when I was a girl?

BiddyPop · 11/10/2023 05:32

It's so warm here still. 22 yest afternoon and still felt humid this morning. I have a suitcase full of woolly jumpers (to leave in Brussels to make it easier to move there next month) and it felt so wrong to be packing those. And I had put away my summer things to be packed in container for shipping - I had to take a load back out again...

Rain warnings out for the next three days. Todays is localised to parts of western Wales. Tomorrow and Friday, all of Wales southern England and much of central England are covered.

Localised thunderstorms may break out in parts of the south for an additional layer of 'fun'.

One annoying thing about NE England - thunderstorms are rare. The times I've sat at my computer, reading a Thunder Thread on here enviously, and having to make do with Lightning Maps (clicks turned on, of course).

The last time we had anything like thunder, there was one clap. One bloomin' clap. I felt a bit thunderous myself about that AngryWinkGrin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/10/2023 22:20

Grin Sequential. I feel the same way abou snow.

It looks pretty cold from the weekend. Tender plants need sorting asap!

We're moving ours into the green house and front porch this weekend. It's much colder today 10c lower than yesterday

SequentialAnalyst · 11/10/2023 23:15

I must say, it was nice to feel a bit of a nip in the air this evening, for a change.

TheOnlyMrsW · 12/10/2023 10:18

We had our first frost overnight, 2 degrees this morning when we went to school...............

justasking111 · 12/10/2023 12:36

After yellow warnings for rain this morning woke up to a low lying mist. OH went out fishing, the fish had vanished in a flat calm sea (they know summat)

It's glorious sunshine now but much colder.
