Sorry, been a bit predisposed today and I'm unlikely to be able to keep the thread as updated as I'd like over the next few days.

Amber thunderstorm warnings for northern Ireland, flash flooding likely. And three days of thunderstorm warnings in a row.

Chucking it down here. N Hampshire. No sign of thunderstorms but that may well change. Garden is happy.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 25/08/2022 08:26

Been raining here (North Beds) since 6am. Quite heavy at the moment

SquirmOfEels · 25/08/2022 08:52

Fortunately there's nothing on the news about flooding. I hope that means that it is indeed OK

My app (I know, shouldn’t rely on it!) is showing storms from around 2am and rain through until tomorrow evening. North East Essex. Am hoping that the lightning doesn’t cause issues with how dry everything is here - and that the rain gradually soaks the ground rather than huge amounts of run-off.

The lightest of light drizzle and no thunder (unless I slept through it). My poor garden!

Another disappointed NE Essex-er. Was so looking forward to some proper rain as not had any for months. The met office forecast was storms overnight and heavy rain (90% certainty) for most of today.
There were no storms or rain overnight, and just a bit of drizzle for 10 mins or so this morning

PriamFarrl · 25/08/2022 12:19

Same here in Suffolk. Promised thunderstorms and rain all day…..
meanwhile- my garden.

It's just stopped raining here - I was up at about 5, and it was raining and thundering then. Torrential rain in the morning, so everything got a good soaking.

CaveMum · 25/08/2022 14:21

Weather station a few miles from me has reported (unofficially) 109mm of rain this morning! An official recording at Bury St Edmunds (10 miles east of us) is 72mm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/08/2022 15:30

I think the band ended up a little west of where it was expected.

On the plus-side, at least Clacton Airshow wasn’t a washout. Have enjoyed seeing some of the planes on their journey to/from the show. One of them was huge and flying really low, the house shook!

Thunderstorm warnings for Northern Ireland, parts of Wales and parts of southern England.

Note that parts of Ireland may be affected too and could potentially see some quite nasty storms.

Potential for a weak tornado or two.

It's weird - I'm in the thunderstorm warning area, but apart from a couple of hours overnight tonight, there's no rain forecast. But on Wed (the day after the warning expires) we have both rain and lightning in the main forecast (Met Office)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/09/2022 20:12

Dont rely on the apps Squirm. They really arent very useful for this scenario.

The exact position of any storms that bubble up isnt known yet. The bands of storms could be pretty narrow, leaving many in the warning area with nothing at all.

Looks like a lively night is going to develop for some in central southern areas with plenty of lightning.

Thanks for the warning OYBBK.

Might be a silly question but why are thunderstorms usually late at night around here? when I've just got into bloody bed on a work night

PriamFarrl · 04/09/2022 23:06

OYBK, is there anywhere I can see historic rainfall? I’m just interested in how much (or should that be little) rain we’ve had in the last 3 months or so.

PinkButtercups · 04/09/2022 23:18

We have had lots of lightning here. Rain has just started with the thunder. SE.

Cheeselog · 05/09/2022 00:37

Lots of thunder and lightning here in Berks too, just saw some proper forks. And heavy showers. I got home about an hour and a half ago and it was balmy as anything then, it’s turned around very quickly!

RosalindsAFuckingNightmare · 05/09/2022 00:48

Thunder and lightening in the distance here in SW London, nothing showing on lighteningmaps.org though!

RagzRebooted · 05/09/2022 01:40

We've had almost constant thunder and lightning for the last 15 minutes. I'd almost got to sleep, then it started. I love a storm but I'm back at work tomorrow after a week off and wanted a decent sleep!
Dcat2 has decided it looks exciting and gone out in it, after watching form the window.

Reesewithafork · 05/09/2022 02:18

Epic storm in Worthing !
@OhYouBadBadKitten how likely is it that we will see three days of torrential weather and storms as predicted on the forecast for us? I’ve got family with small kids coming and am dreading a household of four under four who were promised the beach!

zeromango · 05/09/2022 02:24

Thunder, rain and fork lightning over here in the Midlands. It's beautiful. I absolutely love storms even though I'm gonna be knackered tomorrow staying up so late! Currently listening to the rain pattering on the window and praying it doesn't wake up DS

Managed to capture this photo too Smile

Great photo @zeromango!

Its just easing off here (also midlands), still raining though.

Reesewithafork · 05/09/2022 07:28

Amazing photo
