Sorry, been a bit predisposed today and I'm unlikely to be able to keep the thread as updated as I'd like over the next few days.

Amber thunderstorm warnings for northern Ireland, flash flooding likely. And three days of thunderstorm warnings in a row.

That was some storm over the Midlands last night!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/09/2022 08:43

Think I replied to your other thread Reese It won't be continuous but you certainly may catch more storms over the next couple of days.
Make the most of this morning and then see if you can get some good photos of any approaching storms this afternoon.

Im just waking up mentally. Was a great lightning show here last night!

Generally, in similar positions to last nights light show, we can expect three more rounds of storms. Remember not everyone will see one. Last nights was extensive though!

Mid afternoon
Overnight
Tomororrow afternoon.

It gets really complex when there are multiple storm systems - previous ones can sometimes inhibit the the development of the next round.

Priam you may be able to find localised data wow.metoffice.gov.uk Find stations near you. If they have a website, they may have that data available.
Take the readings with a pinch of salt though, most of them are home weather stations and may not be ideally set up.

Great photo Zero!

WotNo it's an interesting question.

I do have a theory (stressing theory, with a lot of vague hand waving) that if you are in the SE it's because many storms tend to be imported from France and those storms are often elevated night storms. They form under different mechanisms to the afternoon, evening ones which are due to surface heating creating instability. There's a lot of generalisation in that statement.

Tonight's storms may be east of where last nights storms were.

Leicester signing in here - had thunder and lightning for about 15-20 minutes at 1.45am ish this morning plus lots of rain (I can't tell how much as the rain gauge on my weather station has stopped working!)

Thunderstorm watch for today issued by Netweather.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/09/2022 10:21

www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2022-09-06 met office warning covering this afternoon into tonight. Not covering the SE. Interesting.

Looking at what Netweather said, can we pretend that I said West? Grin

A great summary of todays storm potential. convectiveweather.co.uk/forecast.php?date=2022-09-05

I need to highlight a risk of some very lively weather for Ireland too. Id be very interested in any reports of damage from storms, both there, and elsewhere today.

I'm in Ireland and saw the weather warning for today but it's been ok on the east coast. There's been a bit of wind, but not too bad now although the high clouds are moving very fast.

WotNoLoobrush · 05/09/2022 13:16

It's really good to have all this info. Some Apps do seem to be totally wrong at the mo. Thanks everyone!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/09/2022 13:44

Lively little one.

So far so quiet. Tomorrow looks like the day - 90% chance of rain and storms all day

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/09/2022 17:37

I really would not use any apps to predict your chances of when thunderstorms might happen.

Currently got thunder & lightning & heavy rain over Wellington, Somerset.

PriamFarrl · 05/09/2022 18:09

We had rain last night. Actual rain. Garden is still dry though, and the water butt is fairly empty.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/09/2022 18:15

This line is moving very roughly NNE wards.

I've been looking at the Lyme Regis webcam and there's been a great lightning display going on!

FatherDougalsBlueJumper · 05/09/2022 18:33

Ahhh, was hoping there would be a thread! I'm in Somerset and this is our sky at the moment- and the range of strikes. For context, I have this app set to only show strikes within 15 minutes. That means there has been 2000+ strikes in 15 mins.

And as I hit post the first strike is in my 25 mile notification radius.

Cracking storm over South Wales atm, lots of lightening, good booming as well as rumbling thunder and a great downpour!
