Sorry, been a bit predisposed today and I'm unlikely to be able to keep the thread as updated as I'd like over the next few days.

Amber thunderstorm warnings for northern Ireland, flash flooding likely. And three days of thunderstorm warnings in a row.

In North Bristol we are fed up with being told by BBC weather that torrential rain & thunder is on the way after intense heat, it never arrives. 😡

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 16/08/2022 14:18

Huge storm here (north beds) at the moment. Road flooded. Having scaffold erected and had to ask the poor guys in its so bad. Easing now but still coming down

PriamFarrl · 16/08/2022 19:07

We had a small shower at about 2pm and then showers on and off since. Not enough to do any good.

gnilliwdog · 16/08/2022 19:24

Fairly steady, gentle rain been falling for last few hours in Devon. If it keeps up for a few days I think it will really help. Had a lovely walk in it this evening.

ToBeHere · 17/08/2022 14:27

Boiling sunshine and 26 degrees inside the house here in the NW. Not a spot of rain for weeks on end now. We are really desperate for it.

Thunderstorm in Mayfair all afternoon - walking to the tube was like walking through a monsoon! It was lovely 😍 much prefer that than schlepping through the heat. Apparently, not raining at home ...

Intense heavy, sometimes thundery showers in East London. Both my sister and her husband can't leave their respective workplaces due to major flooding. And lots of the Underground in the area has been suspended!

CaveMum · 17/08/2022 18:43

Kempton Park (near Hounslow) have had to abandon their race meeting this evening due to flooding. They had a 40 min downpour at about 2pm, racecourse is waterlogged and the horse walk is flooded.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 17/08/2022 20:42

No thunder in my part of kent but has rained heavily on and off all day my water butt was empty and is now about 3/4 full

While there are currently no warnings out yet for the SE and East Anglia, overnight tonight, parts of the region could see some very lively storms with plenty of lightning and the possibility of some flash flooding.

In the meantime, a pretty wet day for many across the SW, Wales and much of the north into Scotland. The odd thunderstorm cannot be ruled out here.

Still very much showing in the models. Most likely I think for East Sussex and Kent before impacting parts of East Anglia, but it's possible that it may develop further west to cover parts of West Sussex, Surrey etc.

I should add that to either side of this narrow band of forecast storms, very little rain could fall.

Met Office hav now put out warnings. www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2022-08-25

Looks like we might be getting rain overnight, thank goodness!

Though I soaked the key parts of garden yesterday, with the hose (only fourth use this year in my defence) as the ban starts for us today

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/08/2022 21:14

It's possible that the met office top end estimate for rainfall of 50mm over the event may be too conservative, with a few places seeing rather more than that. Tomorrow mornings commute could be tricky.

My app (I know, shouldn’t rely on it!) is showing storms from around 2am and rain through until tomorrow evening. North East Essex. Am hoping that the lightning doesn’t cause issues with how dry everything is here - and that the rain gradually soaks the ground rather than huge amounts of run-off.

Furries · 24/08/2022 21:20

East Anglia is known (I think) for being one of the driest parts of the country. I’m amazed that Anglian Water have not introduced any restrictions - and received an email a week or so ago saying that they have no plans to do so.

Would be interesting to know how they’re able to achieve this - and if there’s anything that other regions can learn from them? Not meant in a “region-bashing” way. More that I’m slightly flummoxed!

I'm with Affinity water and we don't have a hosepipe ban due to, so I've heard, them getting their water from underground so it hasn't dried up. Maybe yours is the same 😀

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 24/08/2022 22:10

Anglian water have 2 of the largest reservoirs in England. Rutland water is actually the largest in area in the UK and Graffham water is also in the top 10.

Furries · 24/08/2022 22:25

Hah, have actually just realised that I’m with Affinity water!

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 24/08/2022 22:34

I think I read somewhere that affinity are buying water from Anglian...

Furries · 24/08/2022 22:42

I think it’s pretty impressive that both of them are doing ok, given how dry our region is.

My property isn’t on a water meter, but I’ve still been very careful with water. I have quite a large back garden, but haven’t watered it at all this summer (lawn and all the border shrubs are established).

Out the front I’ve got a lot of roses, but think I’ve only watered them 4 or 5 times this summer.

Fingers crossed for some steady rain tonight.

Mymugisblue · 24/08/2022 22:44

In Bucks, so hoping for rain but suspect it will miss us yet again

CaveMum · 25/08/2022 06:37

Thunderstorm rumbling away and steady rain here in East Anglia.

The main bulk of the storm is further east than us (Cambs/Suffolk) right now, over Norfolk, looks very active on the lightning map!

We got thunder and a couple of heavy downpours over night, and still raining steadily now.
