I'm sorry for starting this when we still have 200 posts to go, but I really should sleep and I'm worried that the previous thread will fill up. Here it is --> www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weather/4481220-Storm-Eunice please fill it, before using this one.

Now in Red zone
Howling outside.
Everything that can be charged up, is.
Am going to fill flasks with hot water

Stretchandsnap · 18/02/2022 07:40

I have to drive from north Cornwall to london today - haven’t been able to extend our stay down here, am going to leave at 12 (absolutely latest we can) and head back - am feeling really anxious about it

TokyoDreaming · 18/02/2022 07:40

I'm now in the red zone, work told us last night to charge our laptops in case there's a power cut. I very nearly asked if they knew how WiFi worked.

Pandoh · 18/02/2022 07:40

Red zone but seems okay so far...

HelloDulling · 18/02/2022 07:41

Nothing much in Cardiff yet. Blowy, but not extraordinary. Might go out for a quick walk before it gets worse, I can’t face being stuck in with the teens all day.

Grin

I have to drive to work, I work for one of those people that swing their bollocks Hmm

Red comes in at 10am, going to go in early to avoid it. Lots of sirens but wind ok atm.

OrangeSamphire · 18/02/2022 07:44

Coast cam from my bedroom window 😂

Doesn’t look like much but the gusts are pretty big now.

Not much that can happen to us here I don’t think. House is 300 years old. No trees. High enough above sea level and a whacking great hill behind us.

Power cut maybe but otherwise not too worried.

Hope others in more vulnerable spots stay safe.

Nothing happening at all here (Wiltshire) but nursery has just decided they are closed.

SnotMikeUpPuffedHe · 18/02/2022 07:45

West Wales Coast checking in. Was wild at about 4am but calmer now. BBC weather now has our wind speeds peaking much later than they predicted earlier and slightly less over all. I treat this very much as a rough guide though!

NotQuiteNormalMe · 18/02/2022 07:45

Orange how lucky to have a view like that. Is that your trampoline

SickAndTiredAgain · 18/02/2022 07:45

DD’s nursery hasn’t closed - not sure whether to take her. We’re in Berkshire and the secondary school on the same site has closed but I don’t want to be overreacting by keeping her home? It’s only 2 mins away in the car.

NothingIsWrong · 18/02/2022 07:46

Shit shit shit - not worried about my own house (stone, refurbished by two structural engineers so it's yer basic brick shithouse), but I have a damaged partially demolished project in what is now the red zone... wondering if Eunice will finish the job for us...

NinJellyWarrior · 18/02/2022 07:46

@missfliss

Hi *@NinJellyWarrior* - also West Sussex ( coastal) - primary schools all announced closures now - local massive secondary academy not announced anything yet - seems wrong to not close too !
Our secondary has only just sent the text to say it's closed but I'd made the call myself before then.
scooterbear · 18/02/2022 07:47

Herts here. Wind is picking up a bit but nothing extraordinary yet. Red zone from 9-3 apparently. I can hear stansted planes overhead so all normal there. I love a weather event! Quite excited (as long as no one gets injured) (and the massive lime trees opposite my house don't choose today to fall on it. Me elderly neighbour assures me they won't and I'm choosing to trust her!),

Landlubber2019 · 18/02/2022 07:47

@OrangeSamphire what a beautiful view !

lightisnotwhite · 18/02/2022 07:48

Everything shutting in West Sussex now.

FunkyPhantom · 18/02/2022 07:48

Bit blowy in North Hampshire and no rain.

Can see a few trees waving in the wind but the internal doors aren't rattling ( yet 😆 ) so obviously not hit this way with full force yet.

Don't have to leave for work until 9.15 so will keep an ear out 👍

265 schools closed in Hampshire but doesn't seem to be all schools.

NothingIsWrong · 18/02/2022 07:49

Oh and schools in West Oxon seem to be closing...

OrangeSamphire · 18/02/2022 07:49

Thank you @NotQuiteNormalMe.

Yes that’s our trampoline. Storm strapped on each corner to concrete stanchions in the ground. It’s the only way to have one (and keep it!) living here.

HesterShaw1 · 18/02/2022 07:49

@FuzzyPuffling

Hester, there seems to be a power cut around Penzance area...affecting over 1000 houses. Are you caught up.in that?
Yep!
timetochangeusername · 18/02/2022 07:51

Ok dog morning wee done, going to send him out again at 10 just as red warning starts here then hopefully he can hunker down with us . I've got a day off , booked ages ago as it's half term - bit mad as I can't do anything but I'm a homebody so very happy to watch Netflix all day.

Wish I picked up some more cold food yesterday, only got a tiny amount of bread - cooking some part baked rolls I have in the freezer so we've got them for lunch if there's a power cut .

Plant pots in at side of house .Expecting plastic greenhouse to topple (seed trays inside house now) but my main worry is the fences which look precarious in winds anyway (put up badly by previous owner!). Does insurance pay out for fences that go over ?

I've got a Woodburning stove thankfully but all the wood is outside as I haven't used it this year as ds had covid early autumn and it's badly flared his asthma and I didn't want to risk making it more difficult for him - but might grab a few logs next time I'm out there . In meantime have whacked the heating up so if it does go off we're starting with a very warm house !!

Teamill · 18/02/2022 07:51

I'm in London. Just a bit breezy here at the moment. My 9am Pilates class has just been cancelled so I'm going back to bed with a coffee!

ExactlyThat · 18/02/2022 07:51

I am south east, just seen an upgrade to red at 10am so all plans today cancelled.

PatsArrow · 18/02/2022 07:52

I'm in North Somerset, Red Zone. Not much happening.
