Thanks OYBBK! Star

Pebbledashery · 18/02/2022 12:00

Bins have well and truly blown over!

Underparmummy · 18/02/2022 12:01

Annoyed to be homeschooling whilst working again. Feels like schools have discovered a new trick quite frankly. It is very windy here (coastal) but I don't feel that is scary or a massive threat (unless you were a total tit and decided to get in the sea for some reason).

DoctorSnortles · 18/02/2022 12:06

@Underparmummy

How unpleasant to suggest that schools are closed for some sort of laugh. Plus, it's one day. No need to martyr yourself on the homeschooling bonfire.

MrsTrumpton · 18/02/2022 12:07

Underparmummy You do know it wasn't schools' decision to shut? It was the local authorities telling them to, on advice from the Govt.

@GinIsMySaviour

Thanks *@BerylStrip* good advice. I’m also worried about gusts in central London and all the things that could blow into us.

Towel yes there will be tears here and huge guilt trips from the rest of my family. I just don’t want to put DD in danger. We’d also need to take public transport so as well as danger, there would be disruption too.

How are you feeling about it?

We didn’t go - but also had lots of tears and guilt trips. I feel really bad, but I got too scared.

Nothing to do today though! So quite bored, sad, and know that my family is irritated with me!

Did you go?

drybird · 18/02/2022 12:07

I'm now actually very scared here. I'm in a remote cottage in the depths of a farm on the Kent coast. Power gone, kids and me and the dog sitting in bed 😳 I've tried my best to secure what is in the garden

toomuchlaundry · 18/02/2022 12:08

Most of our local villages have lost power, trees down, tiles blowing roofs, closing schools was definitely the right decision

theDudesmummy · 18/02/2022 12:09

My DD is flying into Edinburgh from Poland early tomorrow morning, hope all will be OK by then

A new trick? Either you’re suggesting schools now control the weather or you mean they’d rather YOU keep YOUR child safe and out of harms way at home during one of the biggest storms in recent years? Never mind the staff risking their lives unnecessarily to travel to work either.

Honestly some people live in a bubble. 🙄 It’s one day get a grip.

Ours was opening until the director of children's services sent an email at 5am to say the suggest closing due to red warning.

And they haven't done it for shots and giggles Hmm

Hope it dies down soon. The wind can be scary. Are your kids OK, horrible when you can't even distract them with a bit of TV.

Let's hope that nobody needs the Sennen lifeboat today then.
ZittiEBuoni · 18/02/2022 12:11

One of DH's home-made trellises has blown down in the back garden but is still secured to the wall at the bottom, so not a hazard.

He's grumbled at me for taking the bins back outside but the wind direction and sheltered position they're in should mean that they're fine, I reckon.

We're lucky to have avoided power outages so far, as the rest of the county seems to be riddled with them.

The cats are on the living room window sill glued to the show Grin.

Really? A new trick? Schools have been closing due to adverse weather for a very long time. This isn't a new thing. People have been advised to avoid going out if they can avoid it. Would you rather keep your kids at home for a day, or make their teacher get in their car and potentially end up in an accident? Ridiculous the entitlement on some people.
Underparmummy · 18/02/2022 12:13

Ah, teachers anyone?! Im not the one in a zero risk bubble.

Not state school. Kids in school is literally never the priority anymore and wfh is total bullshit.

Underparmummy · 18/02/2022 12:13

I remember ONE snow day in my 14 years at school.

toomuchlaundry · 18/02/2022 12:13

I suppose schools have discovered a new trick, they now have means to still educate your child with remote provision when it is too dangerous for them to be in the actual school building

Underparmummy · 18/02/2022 12:14

Ridiculous that we have all become so fucking precious nowadays.

Very lucky for you then. That isn't the case in other areas.
EngAng · 18/02/2022 12:15

Yeah, can't imagine what our Head was thinking about, moving to online learning for a day. Oh, hang on, maybe it was the 2500 students, 300 staff and the chance of trees landing on them on the way in, or the tiles flying past them when on site.

Underparmummy · 18/02/2022 12:16

@blacksax wtaf, is that even for real? Jesus f-ing christ. Signing off again. I can't bear the righteousness.

You're a charmer aren't you ?

What's it like having the entire world revolve around you ?

theDudesmummy · 18/02/2022 12:16

If I was on one of those planes I would be beyond hysterical. But what an amazing job the pilots do.
