I'm sorry for starting this when we still have 200 posts to go, but I really should sleep and I'm worried that the previous thread will fill up. Here it is --> www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weather/4481220-Storm-Eunice please fill it, before using this one.

Baroqueandblue yes, it's windy, but nothing particularly unusual. If I didn't know about the weather warnings I'd just say it was quite a breezy day. Hopefully this is it.

arianasky · 18/02/2022 11:06

@OhYouBadBadKitten thank you 😊

LakieLady · 18/02/2022 11:06

Thanks for that link, @Photosymphysis. It's mesmerising.

Wind's really getting up now in my part of Sussex. The bay tree across the road looks as though it's trying to lie down in the garden of the neighbouring house.

It's coming from an unusual direction, too, straight onto the flank wall of the house that adjoins mine, so SW. Strong winds here are usually northwesterlies or northeasterlies.

This seems to suggest worst of it is 11-1 in that area. So maybe it hasn’t fully got to us.

FuzzyPuffling · 18/02/2022 11:07

I'm near Bude. It's bad. Huge tree in town centre just fallen over, leisure centre roof off, friend's wall just totally wrecked, along with her beautiful camellias.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 18/02/2022 11:07

Dh work have just emailed saying any field based staff in an Amber area are to finish the job they're at & go home, only gas leaks are to be attended for obvious reasons. So he'll be getting an early bath today. Red warning were emailed yesterday & this morning telling them not to work or wfh.

Calennig · 18/02/2022 11:08

@cjcjcjcj

does anyone have a link to a live weather map showing the storm movement in real time?
www.windfinder.com/#3/50.5693/9.4922

Supposed to be live wind speeds if that's any help.

PartyAtSueGrays · 18/02/2022 11:08

Both Severn bridges now closed. Apparently the first time this has happened?

EvilPea · 18/02/2022 11:09

@vixeyann

Devon & Cornwall border - awful here. Local pool's roof blown off, huge ancient tree in the local square has fallen, taking out the stone wall surrounds - very sad as it seems to have been there forever. Hiding in my room as too scared to keep watching our fence swaying like a snake ......
I’ve just watched the video. That poor tree. I’ve spent many a happy hour on holiday by that tree, munching pasties, waiting for dh to get out the salt rock shop.
MabelMoo23 · 18/02/2022 11:10

Worcestershire here, only about 40 miles from edge of red zone in Gloucestershire. Windy and rainy here although not too bad at moment. School is closed as in rural position and quite an old building

I just saw a video of the tree in Bude going over. Feels sad as it's such a feature of the centre of Bude.
HillsBesideTheSea · 18/02/2022 11:10

I have a stupid question.

If you have a yellow warning for ice where there are temps of 2C with feels like -4C with Rain is the warning for freezing rain, or just ground ice formation or both typically?

kirinm · 18/02/2022 11:11

SE London. The wind sounds stronger than it looks tbh. Unless things pick up, I'm not too worried about trees falling which was my main concern as we're surrounded by them from neighbouring gardens.

toomuchlaundry · 18/02/2022 11:11

I’ve just seen that video too. Horrible here now. Watching the Winter Olympics to try and keep my mind off it and not looking at the destruction in my garden

FantasticFebruary · 18/02/2022 11:11

@MedusasBadHairDay

It's definitely picking up in Bucks, my garden office is creaking ominously
@MedusasBadHairDay Be careful lovely!! Might be time to decamp into the house!!
Theeyeballsinthesky · 18/02/2022 11:11

Very very windy & wet here in North Somerset. Power cut in my village & trees blocking road

MrsCremuel · 18/02/2022 11:11

Very gusty here in East Kent but from my front room window nothing worse than a wheelie bin rolling down the road…so far! Lots of a few big mature trees in the area and our garden so nervously checking.

arianasky · 18/02/2022 11:12

@Jedsnewstar ah great thank you

MarshaBradyo · 18/02/2022 11:12

SE London too a few bins over, so far

We were meant to go out as half term but storm watching instead

LIZS · 18/02/2022 11:12

Wind getting up again in se. Just had a brief power cut.

LilyGlobe · 18/02/2022 11:12

I can also see the Solent from my house Grin I’m roughly 3.5 miles inland. I’ll be really surprised if there aren’t trees down near us. It’s such weird weather too - raining one minute, not the next, grey skies out of one window, glaring sunshine out of another Confused

caranations · 18/02/2022 11:13

Is there a flightradar thread, I'm watching an EasyJet flight from Amsterdam try to land at Luton, had two goes already and now circling, wondering what to do.

BA flight from Edinburgh to Heathrow has given up in disgust and now heading for the midlands.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 18/02/2022 11:13

Getting really windy here in my part of kent

RagzRebooted · 18/02/2022 11:13

DH thought I was crazy taking the rotary line down just now, but it was swaying worryingly and I don't want it going anywhere. Gusts felt pretty strong and we're reasonably sheltered. Back fence is already loose, I'm not confident it will stay but there's another fence behind it (long story!) and a compost bin in front so it shouldn't go far. I've nothing to prop it up with anyway. Cats now shut in, not that they really wanted to go out anyway. Bins are still standing, but they're quite sheltered. DH said he was going to tie the lids down, but he hasn't yet.

Och bet it feels a bit hairy on those flights

Especially if you’re not keen on turbulence
