I'm sorry for starting this when we still have 200 posts to go, but I really should sleep and I'm worried that the previous thread will fill up. Here it is --> www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weather/4481220-Storm-Eunice please fill it, before using this one.

@Vargas

I am very surprised that anyone in a red zone is considering non-essential travel. Please stay in. The emergency services really don't need any extra work to do! It's not like you are being forced to stay in for days and days...
Yep, I changed my plans this morning when I saw the warnings had changed. It's a pain and I'm missing out on a nice Friday office lunch, but better safe than sorry.

Big jet TV is amazing.

fortyfourfeasts · 18/02/2022 10:22

Thanks for keeping us all informed OYBBK. Checking in from Nottingham, sunny and fairly calm at the moment. Been and done jobs early this morning - just got to get to a doctors appt in 10 mins and back again before it gets any worse. Hoping the timings from the Met Office website are reasonably accurate.
Hope everyone ok and stays safe.

DrHildegardeLanstrom · 18/02/2022 10:22

Just had an absolutely massive gust here in north London - made me jump right out of my skin!

It's compulsive. I can't tear myself away despite having 101 other things to do today!
Vargas · 18/02/2022 10:22

Blue sky in South London, if I didn't ever watch a weather report I would be tempted to go out for a walk!

queenrollo · 18/02/2022 10:23

Anyone wondering about going out, please don't unless it really is an emergency.
As well as the usual emergency services there are people like my husband who volunteers with a local 4x4 rescue service. People like him end up being called out to assist the Fire Brigade with removal of trees/cars etc. Control have to assess risk before requesting volunteers to step up - but during the last round of very bad flooding here my DH was called to rescue people stuck after driving into floodwaters and invariably it's people out for totally unecessary journeys.
He once got stuck for 5 hours while taking Macmillan Nurses to patients, so there is risk even to people who are trained to drive in these conditions.

Same. It looks like a lovely day!
timetochangeusername · 18/02/2022 10:24

Yes nice here too in Surrey. Is it coming in slower than expected ? The red zone on the wind website someone posted up thread is still out at sea .

GalaPie · 18/02/2022 10:24

Very noticeable change on Romney Marsh (south Kent) over last half hour. Our red alert lasts from 10-1500hrs and just noticed high tide falls at 1251, bang in the middle. Hope the seawall has been secured from pedestrians.

Agreed, just seems like normal wind with blue skies so far

Oh! What should I be looking for on their website!
MrsColinFerguson · 18/02/2022 10:25

@Nervousmum98626

Anyone in bath and know what it is like? We are meant to be there this evening to pick up keys to new house obviously won’t if it’s not safe but just curious if anyone is down that way and what it’s like (we are in london)
I’m about 10 miles away from there, and it’s definitely picking up here now. At the moment it is very blustery, but forecast to get worse around lunchtime. The blue skies have suddenly disappeared!
OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2022 10:25

It isn't coming slower, its just that it takes time to ramp up and if you are in central southern areas it is only just getting going.

Thank you! We will probably end up leaving it depending on what happens in the next two hours unless it seriously improves… safe travels back when you do leave

itsgettingweird · 18/02/2022 10:26
@cabrillolighthouse good grief Cabrillo!?! Is that your garden!?! Ti's lush! (missing point of thread)
I missed the point and thought the same too 🤣🤣

Getting extremely gusty here now south coast Hampshire.

RagzRebooted · 18/02/2022 10:26

Starting to hear it really picking up here in E. SUSSEX, bang on time. I've just been the the GP to take DS1 for a blood test and it was howling around. Chatted to the courier who said Hastings have closed all the seafront car parks.
Stay safe everyone, off to look for a dramatic seafront weather webcam!

cabrillolighthouse · 18/02/2022 10:27

Thanks @Wilkolampshade it is a gorgeous garden but soooo many trees to worry about. At this point I'm thinking I might as well just hand the deeds over to the tree surgeon, he has had so much work from us the last couple of years!

RagzRebooted · 18/02/2022 10:27

Oh and the rain is stopping now and some blue sky breaking through, which is wierd.

cheninblanc · 18/02/2022 10:29

I have to leave for work soon in Kent. I am really not looking forward to it. The drive won't be good I fear

timetochangeusername · 18/02/2022 10:31

Having quite a few gusts now. Dog had second wee. He should be able to hold it now til mid afternoon 😁

Jedsnewstar · 18/02/2022 10:31

It seems to be getting brighter now in SE Wales, iv seen it much windier here.

Furrow · 18/02/2022 10:32

Teen DD having a strop as she's suddenly decided she needs to get her hair cut today or it is the end of the world. All the buses are cancelled which she thinks is really unreasonable and I won't give her a lift. Oh joy.

Dianaofthelakeofshiningwaters · 18/02/2022 10:32

@MinglingFlamingo - yes thanks. He got called in just before 6 am so wasn't as windy then which I was quite relieved about. It keeps dying down a bit here but then taking off again.

Looks like we might have lost an apple tree which is a shame as the apples are really tasty but if that's the worst to happen we will have got away lightly.

Yep. It’s a nice day. I have an appointment in central London later, so will definitely be going to that later, unless things change.
