I'm sorry for starting this when we still have 200 posts to go, but I really should sleep and I'm worried that the previous thread will fill up. Here it is --> www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weather/4481220-Storm-Eunice please fill it, before using this one.

W MIDs.

Forecast wind speeds went down for school run and it was quite calm getting them to school but picking up a little bit by the time I returned. The really blustery winds have only just started here. The internal door is moving.

crackofdoom · 18/02/2022 10:09

Good morning! Tucked up in bed with coffee now Falmouth...yes, an hour ago I would have said that the wind was strong but nothing we haven't had before, but now it is, I think, the strongest I've experienced.

Looking out of the window down the village street, everything is very quiet and orderly- it's as quiet as full lockdown, everyone must have heeded the warnings. It's funny, there are far more bins etc blowing around in normal strong winds- everyone (moi, for example 😳) has taken more care lashing stuff down today.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2022 10:10

Why are people dithering about whether to go out or not in the red zones. Do not. Unless it is an emergency do not. Don't you think firefighters have enough to do without having to cut your car out from under a tree?

Cornwall north coast sea front.
The sea is boiling and the winds are undoubtably very strong but it doesn't feel quite as bad as we expected so I hope that's most peoples experience today.
I know in Bude they've had a roof off and trees down and there are power cuts here and there so fingers crossed that's as bad as it gets for them.

whojamaflip · 18/02/2022 10:10

Wind has just ramped up here in the Cotswolds - constant roaring sound with sporadic heavy gusts.

Made it to one bunch of sheep who were all sensibly tucked up under the hedge and refused to come down for food so have filled their troughs and left them to it.

Leaving the other bunch until after lunch as the only way to get to them is through the woods and I really don't fancy taking the risk as they are all old mature trees with a fair amount of ash which may or may not have die back. Will need to go up there later with the chainsaws anyway....

Only one cat has appeared home this morning - they all refused to stay in last night so I'm hoping the others are hunkered down in the barns somewhere.

Beautiful sunny day in Cambridge with not a breath of wind. I just said to my bloke it’s like 1987 in reverse.

Piggywaspushed · 18/02/2022 10:12

DH has phoned me from the shop literally across the road to announce it is disappointingly not windy...

Vintagevixen · 18/02/2022 10:12

In a medium sized town on the East Sussex coast here. Really picking up strength.

Neighbours two doors down in our terrace of 14 houses have scaffolding up and are having their roof done - I kid you not I've just looked out the windows and there are roofers on the scaffold, both front (slightly SW facing) and back (North facing). Crikey.

OopsadayZ · 18/02/2022 10:12

@Cuck00soup

Well that’s today’s plans blown apart.

Does anyone know if private companies have any obligations when there are red weather warnings to move bookings to another time?

I'd like to know this too. We had a day out at an indoor arena booked for the kids and now I am not sure what to do...
AchillesLastStand · 18/02/2022 10:13

Wind is picking up here in North Staffs and I can hear it battering the side of the house. I’m worried about picking up DS from school up 3 which is likely to be peak storm here. I wish they would decide to close early at lunchtime.

Thewiseoneincognito · 18/02/2022 10:13

@Cheekypeach North coast

EuniceUpdates · 18/02/2022 10:13

Wind starting to pick up just west of London. Thought it was becoming a brighter day then we've started getting strong gusts.

Peppapigforlife · 18/02/2022 10:15

Just watched a plane in that Heathrow landing video, coming in sideways and land beautifully then turn sideways as it put the brakes on. Would not want to be on that plane 😂

MyLifeNow20 · 18/02/2022 10:15

Im in Essex too and seems calm here

Wish I wasn't in a red zone. Very nervous watching the garden. I wouldn't travel here if I could help it.
Nervousmum98626 · 18/02/2022 10:16

Anyone in bath and know what it is like? We are meant to be there this evening to pick up keys to new house obviously won’t if it’s not safe but just curious if anyone is down that way and what it’s like (we are in london)

MrsTrumpton · 18/02/2022 10:17

@crumblecrimble

Where are you in Wiltshire *@cabrillolighthouse*?
Climate change.
Vargas · 18/02/2022 10:17

I am very surprised that anyone in a red zone is considering non-essential travel. Please stay in. The emergency services really don't need any extra work to do! It's not like you are being forced to stay in for days and days...

This. ^
Estara · 18/02/2022 10:17

It's fairly calm and drizzly on the North West Coast at the moment (standard weather for us) .
It's a 12.30 hightide at just over 9m, hopefully it doesn't come over but we do have flood warnings. The wind isn't due to pick up here until mid afternoon according to windfinder.com.
Hope everyone stays safe.

cabrillolighthouse · 18/02/2022 10:18

@crumblecrimble the bit that is north of Bristol but south of Swindon sort of parallel to the M4. It's the tall trees and the ones up on the hill behind the house which seem to be really catching the wind if that makes sense, everything at ground level looks relatively normal at the moment (normal for a blustery February day anyway)

That sounds terrifying!

It's just gone from glorious sunshine to very dark clouds here

We're in Bath - due to drive home to Cornwall later if things ease for the journey. It's okay here at the moment. Gusty but nothing we didn't have on Tuesday night when we arrived. It's tempting to just travel now as it's okay here but we know it'll be worse as we head home. I'll update if it gets worse.
popcornsong · 18/02/2022 10:21

Norwich - very strange hot sunshine, a bit of drizzle and a magnificent rainbow. All a bit other-worldly.
