I'm sorry for starting this when we still have 200 posts to go, but I really should sleep and I'm worried that the previous thread will fill up. Here it is --> www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weather/4481220-Storm-Eunice please fill it, before using this one.

It is weirdly sunny but windy now

GinIsMySaviour · 18/02/2022 09:47

Towel it’s driving me crazy! I need to decide soon too. The weather here looks manageable and easing up a bit for now but I know it’s going to get worse. Just to make the decision even harder, the sun has come out!!!!

I think I’m going to stay put though … how about you?

Dianaofthelakeofshiningwaters · 18/02/2022 09:48

Hi @MinglingFlamingo - just lost tv signal here too but power still on. Let's hope we get through without too much damage.

MrsM36 · 18/02/2022 09:48

Have been lurking on this thread since yesterday, the wind is picking up in my part of Surrey now... although we currently have blue skies, the field shelter in one of the fields at the yard where my pony is has already fallen victim to it. Luckily said pony is in the field the other side of the road currently

It's really bad here right now. SE . But I'm not sure if that's me catastrophising and it's going to get worse.

Yes the weather looks blustery but a little sunny here - it would be fine to drive if it didn’t change, but all the reports say it’s going to change!

I honestly don’t know what to do. There will be lots of tears (and nothing going on at home anyway) if we don’t go! Ahhh!

BrocolliHamster · 18/02/2022 09:49

Gah came to work in red zone because it seemed pretty calm, now it's starting to get pretty howly. Ubiquitous car alarm going off and flickering lights.

StarryGazeyEyes · 18/02/2022 09:49

We're North Cornwall - not on the coast but on high ground and quite exposed. An hour ago I would have said nothing we haven't experienced before, but it's really wild out there now. Our normally laid back dog is quivering like nobody's business. We're getting some insane gusts, and there are a couple of big trees down in our village. The road is very quiet, so most people seem to be heeding the warnings. If it hasn't got to you yet, don't be complacent.

FantasticButtocks · 18/02/2022 09:50

Right on north Devon coast here, facing north, facing sea. Have battened down the hatches and slept til 6 with earplugs.

But it seemed ok at 8 this morning. Managed to do brief walk with dog.

Was about to say it doesn't seem too bad, compared to what I was expecting, but actually it's ramping up now.

spiderlight · 18/02/2022 09:50

I can't believe the Big Jet TV guy is actually out in this!!

BerylStrip · 18/02/2022 09:50

For those of you wondering if you should make a journey or not: DO NOT DO IT.

The fact you're wondering suggests the trip is not essential. I can't over-emphasise just how strong these winds are. Because it's gusting and dying down and gusting again, it's somehow worse because it's so unpredictable.

All it would take is for one very strong gust to catch your car and the results could be terrible.

Magicmagician · 18/02/2022 09:52

@Francescaisstressed Shock blimey that sounds bad - also in Cardiff and it’s really picked up in our bit of the city now, am pretty glad I cancelled an appointment I had for 9:45 this morning which I have to say I was doubting when it was blue skies earlier!

Dianaofthelakeofshiningwaters · 18/02/2022 09:53

@StarryGazeyEyes - saw some big trees down in Wadebridge on tv before we lost it. Our dog has chosen to go outside because he's more scared of the printer Grin. He's a strange one though. Is sitting on the grass being blown to buggery - thinks he's Heathcliff Grin

MalteserGeezee · 18/02/2022 09:54

SE London checking in. Red warning coming onstream shortly. Winds starting to pick up, getting gusty. Intermittent blue skies and watery sunshine, quite surreal!

Pthagonal · 18/02/2022 09:55

So, the idiot dog - who was very reluctant to go for a wee during the lull - iIs now staring at his lead, asking for a walk. Words have been had as to his parentage and intelligence. Confused

Xiaoxiong · 18/02/2022 09:55

South coast of Cornwall, some weather here for a few hours, I can hear slates smashing in the street - I just hope they're not from our roof!! Every so often there's a mystery boom or bang somewhere around us. The harbour faces straight east and high water was a few hours ago so at least there shouldn't be any issues with flooding as yet, the wind is coming off the land and blowing out to sea..

It's been pretty gusty since 7am, lights started flickering around 9am but power not out yet. I keep thinking it's slackening off and then it picks up again. Literally as I type we've just had the strongest longest gust yet and starting to get that howling sound to the wind.

CharlesChickens · 18/02/2022 09:56

Very gusty here, definitely stronger winds than an hour ago. (W Wales near the coast).

FuzzyPuffling · 18/02/2022 09:57

Bad here now. It's actually blowing the water out of my small garden pond. Like a waterfall but in reverse.

CocktailNapkin · 18/02/2022 09:57

West London here and we have the blue skies at the moment and it doesn't seem much worse than the last few days. I cancelled a medical appointment for 1130 in central London due to the red warning, but felt bad because all the hospital workers managed to get in and yet here I am cancelling. However, there are a LOT of works going on by the hospital and I am at the end of a Tube line with open tracks - if the line closes Ill get stuck somewhere.

toomuchlaundry · 18/02/2022 09:58

Lights are flickering now

WhathaveIdoneagain · 18/02/2022 09:58

Stay safe everyone. Flowers

I second PPs, do not chance it in red weather warning. Storm Arwen was the scariest storm I have ever experienced (wind speeds over 100 mph).

cabrillolighthouse · 18/02/2022 09:59

Wiltshire. Last 10 mins sky has gone from blue to dark and the wind has properly started. I took this photo outside our back door and then ran back inside as the top of that fir suddenly sprang towards me like it had been released from a catapult!!! I was properly scared for a moment there!

StarryGazeyEyes · 18/02/2022 09:59

@Dianaofthelakeofshiningwaters he's clearly a romantic soul! It sound's like there's a lorry roaring down the road that never quite arrives at the moment.

Thewiseoneincognito · 18/02/2022 09:59

Currently staying on an Atlantic facing beach in Cornwall and it’s gone utterly mental the last 20 or so minutes.

What’s coming over is horrendous. Do not be fooled by the relatively familiar winds, this is ferocious.

Oblomov22 · 18/02/2022 10:00

Surrey, blue skies and sunshine, no sign of storm, yet.
