I'm sorry for starting this when we still have 200 posts to go, but I really should sleep and I'm worried that the previous thread will fill up. Here it is --> www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weather/4481220-Storm-Eunice please fill it, before using this one.

What a great thread, thanks @OYBBK for all the info.

SE London here, struggling to make a decision about attending a family event. It would mean travelling for an hour (with DD) during the peak winds and then travelling home around 4.

We should just stay at home right? I’d feel so guilty about missing it but think a red warning should be taken seriously … and I don’t want to put DD in danger.

(Everyone else attending is staying at the hotel where the event is happening so won’t need to travel)

Argh!!!!

Stay safe everyone x

@LilyGlobe

South Hampshire here, we’ve closed work as the flood risk is also too high to risk. I live slightly inland and it was very calm half an hour ago but has picked up massively now.

Husband says metoffice are saying it’s not coming in as far as expected, will just clip the Isle of Wight, and will pass over quicker than expected but I have no idea where he’s reading that. He’s wanting to prove I was wrong to close the business, I think 🙄

I'm south Hampshire too.

Noticed it's ramping up here now.

@BerylStrip

Reporting in again from South Cornwall, very close to the coast (closest town Redruth). It's terrible now - just watched with some alarm as the top of a neighbours tree bent and then snapped and was whisked off into the distance. I made the foolish mistake of ignoring advice and walked to get the paper, and almost got blown over by one particular gust. Looking at various live weather tracking maps we still haven't had the peak winds and I'm getting quite anxious.

Still have power and the interwebs though, so must be grateful for small mercies.

If you're further along in the UK, and think "oh, it's just a bit breezy" that's exactly what it was like here about three hours ago, so take this as a last chance to batten down your hatches.

Sorry you are feeling anxious. Flowers. Seems a reasonable response given your description. Hopefully power won’t go out and the paper will distract you for a time.

Same experience hear in Cardiff. Was blue skies sunny and a bit windy 20 mins ago. Now skies are dark grey, winds are very very loud, neighbours fence has smashed into some windscreen and a lamppost looks like it's going over. Dreading the next couple of hours and imagine people are being lulled into a false sense of security.
LIZS · 18/02/2022 09:33

Wind getting up in se now

liliainterfrutices · 18/02/2022 09:33

Pretty wild in mid Devon. Bracing myself for the next few hours.

OnwardsAndSideways1 · 18/02/2022 09:34

@BerylStrip it's getting that way further up the coast in Devon, it's the individual gusts that are so strong, then it dies down. It's even windy in my bedroom as I have old-fashioned air vents! My indoor plants are swaying in the breeze. I'm in an amber zone by the way, not red, I feel just about ok here, any windier and it would be quite frightening.

cheninblanc · 18/02/2022 09:35

My daughter has just gone out for a driving lesson! We're in Kent, driving instructor wasn't fazed at all

Lysianthus · 18/02/2022 09:35

Checking in from mid Sussex. V v squally. So far no damage but as we're all WFH the WiFi is screeching and might not cope with teamz. But if we have a power outage it will be academic. Stay safe everyone. PS there's a storm denier thread elsewhere which I suspect may not age well.

JessieEssex · 18/02/2022 09:35

Starting to get very gusty in NW Essex - children are worried as we live in a very old house but I've assured them it's lasted 500 years without falling down Confused

PuzzledObserver · 18/02/2022 09:35

@Olinguito

I dismantled my bird feeder this morning as I didn't fancy parts of it flying off into the house. Now all the small birds have turned up looking for food and I feel really mean! I hope the wildlife finds somewhere safe to hunker down.
We took the hanging things off but left the frame in place. The water dish, though, had already gone AWOL.

I went out at 9:15 to see if I felt justified in cancelling my hair appointment. At first I thought I was overreacting, but then there was a gust which was difficult to stand up in. I came inside, locked the door and phoned the hairdresser (who completely understood)

Mid Devon - they are advising against travel unless essential, and let’s face it, a hair cut is hardly essential. It has really ramped up in the past hour.

Peppapigforlife · 18/02/2022 09:36

It's very windy in Canterbury. We've been moved onto the red. I'm wondering what it's going to be like in thirty minutes when it shifts gears, supposedly. I'm hoping it doesn't.

WinterIcelandicPony22 · 18/02/2022 09:37

Starting to ramp up in my little part of the Isle of Wight too. Wind is whistling.

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 18/02/2022 09:38

Just going to put these here (don't look if you're nervous - esp if you're due to fly soon)

Bottom of Mendips in SW, skies just gone grey , wind up and down, our back garden is really exposed so I'm avoiding looking out! Our summer house took a trip into the neighbours garden a couple of years ago

Very nice landing there, Captain, around 9:38. 👍🏻

Shall I try that again?

MinglingFlamingo · 18/02/2022 09:42

Hope everyone made it through the night in one piece. Special wave to the Cornish folk

Just lost tv signal here . The loft hatch has been banging all morning and the aerial is kept up there so think the wind has dislocated something

I'm surprised how it's not raining. I was expecting lashing rain.

Got power atm but using phones etc to a minimum just in case

alloalloallo · 18/02/2022 09:42

I’m on the south coast and we’re now on a red warning from 10am

I was at my yard to sort my horses at about 6:30am and it was super calm, wind has picked up a lot in the last hour and a half though. Properly rattling the roof at work. We’re supposed to have the worst at 12ish

All our schools are closed. My DD is at college and had a mock today. They posted they were open, then just after 9 posted they were closing and everyone had to go home. Annoying.

MedusasBadHairDay · 18/02/2022 09:43

It's definitely picking up in Bucks, my garden office is creaking ominously

@GinIsMySaviour I am having almost the exact same dilemma! (London to Essex for me.) I need to decide in the next 30 mins and I honestly don’t know what to do! Dc will be gutted and I will be too, but I’m not sure I should be driving out there today?!?!
OnwardsAndSideways1 · 18/02/2022 09:44

A plastic roof sheeting panel has just flown past my upstairs window. Unfortunately, it was from my roof. I've secured it with bricks on the ground. The fence is looking dodgy. Just have to wait it out.

Don't travel in the red warning unless utterly essential.
