This thread covers the expected severe weather on Friday - named Storm Eunice by the met office. At the moment there is great uncertainty, so the met office have put out a very wide yellow weather warning. It looks likely that some regions within the warning area will see gusts of 60-70mph inland, with a small chances of inland gusts above 80mph. The storm also carries the potential for some blizzards, but again there is currently considerable uncertainty.

A separate thread exists for Storm Dudley which is expected Wednesday/Thursday.

Checking in from Norfolk again… so weird here, one minute big wind gusts and rain then blue sky and stillness. Still predicted to the in the brunt of it from midday onwards though…

Justkeeppedaling · 18/02/2022 10:26

North Wiltshire - it's just arrived

Similar here. Very strange.

@Sowhatifiam

To all the Fylde coasters *@ofwarren* *@Louisianagumbo* *@ohidoliketobe*

It’s really weird, isn’t it? It was as windy as it normally is an hour ago. I got my son up and we did what we could do secure stuff in the garden and I moved the car onto the road (as am my neighbours had and I didn’t want to be left out!). But now it’s just a breeze? What is going on?! And have you seen the forecast for Sunday?!

Sunday into Monday is dire on the NW coast. Similar wind speeds to today (during the school run, obvs).
Bromse · 18/02/2022 11:10

This will sound very strange but it's worse out the back than at the front of my house :-). Honestly, it's true. It has certainly arrived here but - could be worse. I cancelled my grocery delivery which was due this morning because of Eunice, I expect there will be some drivers who cannot get to work and will be glad (I have enough food).

AuntieStella · 18/02/2022 11:12

Yes, I'm wondering if my supermarket delivery will get through today!

It won't really matter if it can't, but I wish they'd get a wriggle on with letting us know!

Yes it's the same here. I think it's because we have a wind tunnel at the back between 2 rows of houses. The front is more open.
newnameforthehousehunt · 18/02/2022 17:06

Still blowing a gale here in Norfolk, I just went for a quick walk around the block as desperate for some fresh air. Saw a few missing fence panels/escapee bins/flower pots littering the roads. That wind is absolutely bitterly cold 🥶

SilverSep · 18/02/2022 17:50

Just got back from a cold, windy walk in my local area (Winchester )..couple of roads locally blocked by fallen trees, fence panels missing, one allotment shed blown over , another on same patch strongly guyed with obviously brand new polyprop rope - and upright :-)
Its weather Jim.....and a bit blowy.

This is rather spectacular

Right on the sea front here on the north west coast. Half my roof tiles have blown off and smashed my neighbour' brand new fence. Just waiting for the leaks to start, but don't fancy my chances getting hold of a roofer ...

Bromse · 18/02/2022 18:23

A lot has happened in SE London (Greenwich, Bromley, Bexley boroughs); the roof of the O2 has blown off (no casualties thankfully), loads of trees uprooted and blown over, causing road blocks and hitting things. Garden walls and fences collapsed. Trees on railway line.

I haven't been out but can see my bins are on their sides. They can stay that way until the gale subsides.

Sallybates · 18/02/2022 18:49

Johnson will be pleased about the distraction!

DirtyDancing · 18/02/2022 19:26

Trees down in south London - Ruskin Park, and two churches (one on the south circular and one nearer to Croydon)

Utterly ridiculous. It's a windy day. Utter snowflake mentality.

You fit your user name, well the last bit. 3 people dead already that we know of. Devastation across the country, seriously perhaps have a think before you post.

Utter nonsense. People fall foul of bad weather every day. Its not a national crisis because a few trees come down.

Hmmmn ,cannot bare the snowflake expression ..limited vocabulary I am afraid!! If today has been normal for you wherever you live well congratulations 👏!

I can assure you it was not just a windy day for us, in a coastal town in South Wales that recorded 85+mph winds!!

We've had fallen trees, fallen power lines, boats overturned in the marina, buildings damaged.

We are used to "windy coastal days" this was not one of them. It was a red warning area for a reason.

🙄🙄🙄🙄

Hurricane force winds just normal every day occurances for you are they? Where do you live, Antarctica? Fuck off with the snowflake bollocks.

I don't even know where to begin with the complete ignorance of your comments and total lack of empathy for people without power, heating, a roof over their head? People like you just do my head in and I'm being extremely polite here
