This thread covers the expected severe weather on Friday - named Storm Eunice by the met office. At the moment there is great uncertainty, so the met office have put out a very wide yellow weather warning. It looks likely that some regions within the warning area will see gusts of 60-70mph inland, with a small chances of inland gusts above 80mph. The storm also carries the potential for some blizzards, but again there is currently considerable uncertainty.

A separate thread exists for Storm Dudley which is expected Wednesday/Thursday.

South East London here. Up until early evening there was still a fairly stiff breeze, but has been (mostly) eerily still for hours now. I say 'mostly' because every now and then I hear an odd rumble off somewhere, not like thunder, something else. Street has been unusually quiet the last couple of hours too. Definitely feels ominous, given that yesterday it sounded like we had the tail end of Dudders for a while.

I'm in a first floor flat at the top of a steep hill looking down towards the river and the O2, Woolwich ferry, etc. Top end of Kent behind us on the other side. Very exposed but the building is concrete and the roof flat, so hopefully that'll help. Tall trees in the garden though, and I had a dream last year that one crashed through the living room window. Hope it wasn't a premonition!

BlackeyedSusan · 18/02/2022 01:23

W MIDs. Eerily quiet.

EmmaH2022 · 18/02/2022 01:49

baroque North London. I've heard unexplained thunder like noises, doesn't seem to fit with the complete stillness...storm meant to hit about 3am.

LilacPaisley · 18/02/2022 02:00

East Anglia. After a fairly gusty day yesterday, all's calm and quiet. Several big old trees in the garden unusually still. Off to bed with radio 5 and this thread. Hopefully to sleep. Stay safe.

Owlnoises · 18/02/2022 02:07

South London here. Agree it's very eerie. Don't think I've ever known it so quiet. It's almost silent.

Maybe it won't be such a problem.

Severn crossing is now shut due to strong winds.
Wind picking up here Swansea area under red warning

LesLavandes · 18/02/2022 02:20

Brighton and by sea. Raining and wind is picking up.
Unusually it is coming from the south, directly off the sea. We had the 'eerily calm' earlier.

Very apprehensive

PartyAtSueGrays · 18/02/2022 02:32

Just put the dog out for a wee and it's definitely picking up quite a bit now and raining. Very strange earlier as the birds were still singing at 11pm. Hold onto your hats folks, think we're in for a bad one

Ostryga · 18/02/2022 02:39

Norfolk and it’s intermittently drizzling, but there’s barely a breeze.

Just finished work and was worrying all day about having to come home in wild winds.

HarreePotter · 18/02/2022 02:44

Infra red picture of Eunice it's more north than anticipated

NoWordForFluffy · 18/02/2022 02:44

Chucking it down and wind picking up on NW coast.

Captainashford · 18/02/2022 02:56

Picking up in north east Somerset. Just outside red warning area. Woken up by cat getting under the duvet with us 😀. We are all now very cosy in attic bedroom listening to wind howling round the roof. Stay safe everyone x

RafaIstheKingofClay · 18/02/2022 03:00

The eerie calm is definitely over in the SW. Nothing too unusual for here at the moment, but obviously we're a way off the expected peak yet.

Ostryga · 18/02/2022 03:05

Ok so we’ve got big fat rain that keeps stopping and starting. And the birds are singing at 3am!

Might be just working myself up, but feels weird to me. I often finish work at this time and never hear the birds.

Custardtartandcoffee · 18/02/2022 03:17

Where did you get your picture from @HarreePotter? Is it possible to track it live using that?

HarreePotter · 18/02/2022 03:25

It's this website www.metcheck.com/WEATHER/satellite.asp

derryrose1980 · 18/02/2022 03:26

Near Belfast, getting windy here.

Custardtartandcoffee · 18/02/2022 03:34

Thank you @HarreePotter

ofwarren · 18/02/2022 03:38

I can hear the wind howling outside.
I live on the fylde coast.

RozHuntleysStump · 18/02/2022 03:40

Raining heavily in hull.

Sowhatifiam · 18/02/2022 03:41

@ofwarren, me too. It has woken me up and something just went bang in the street. Not looking forward to this.

Louisianagumbo · 18/02/2022 03:49

That's weird @Sowhatifiam and @ofwarren. That's where I live and I've just been out to the car and it was quite still, although it has just started to rain. Maybe we're sheltered where I am.

RamblingFar · 18/02/2022 03:49

South East England including London just upgraded to red weather warning.

Motnight · 18/02/2022 03:51

London here - just started getting windy. Am awake as my dd is meant to be flying to Glasgow in a few hours!
