This thread covers the expected severe weather on Friday - named Storm Eunice by the met office. At the moment there is great uncertainty, so the met office have put out a very wide yellow weather warning. It looks likely that some regions within the warning area will see gusts of 60-70mph inland, with a small chances of inland gusts above 80mph. The storm also carries the potential for some blizzards, but again there is currently considerable uncertainty.

A separate thread exists for Storm Dudley which is expected Wednesday/Thursday.

Is there likely to be very heavy/torrential rain with this storm or is it "just" the winds that are the worrying feature? We are in a valley at the bottom of a hill and very occasionally when the rains are extremely heavy it cascades down the hill and under our front door! Wondering if I should go and dig out some sandbags 🤔

River flooding along the Severn is a concern and coastal flooding is a concern, but not flooding from rain.

Thank you @OhYouBadBadKitten

Just been out to our paddock in front of our house to check on our horses and it's pretty windy now.

No rain, I'm worried about our new fence that we just put up at the bottom of our field, the horses are currently standing in front of it but if that goes down they'll be in the neighbours veg patch.

Sorry to all that have bad anxiety regarding the weather. I hope you are ok and can get some rest or at the very least try to relax a bit. I'm going to make a cup of tea and wait forever it to get light.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2022 06:21

I think people are generally decamping over to the new thread now. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weather/4484499-Storm-Eunice-Part-2

@Louisianagumbo

That's weird *@Sowhatifiam and @ofwarren*. That's where I live and I've just been out to the car and it was quite still, although it has just started to rain. Maybe we're sheltered where I am.
Another Fylde coaster here!
Lubeyboobyalt · 18/02/2022 06:32

Oh shit... shit shit shit.

The winds here (350m up a hill in shropshire) are as bad now as they got with Dudley - already. 43mph sustained, 60+mph gusts. Our recording equipment just died after a 68mph gust. On barely just the leading edge winds of the storm over us now. Fuck. I am very concerned now what the hell this will be like when the main part goes over.

newnameforthehousehunt · 18/02/2022 07:14

Wind is picking up here in Norfolk but still generally calm…. Trying to get dcat outside for a wee before the worst hits from about 12 according to the Met Office

LilacPaisley · 18/02/2022 07:41

I've spent a lot of time and money making my house power-cut resilient, and I think it's about to havea live test

Also in Suffolk. But with overhead power cables it's almost a given it will be taken out.

Motorina · 18/02/2022 07:50

@LilacPaisley that's my assumption. Looking forward (kinda...) to seeing how my resilience planning works in action!

userxx · 18/02/2022 08:19

Very still here in south Manchester.

ofwarren · 18/02/2022 08:21

Getting worse here on the fylde coast
Wind and rain battering the bedroom windows

Pebbledashery · 18/02/2022 08:43

Been told to stay at home.. So that's what I'm doing.

Crochetcacher · 18/02/2022 08:46

Really starting to pick up in South Wales valleys now, can hear recycling blowing about outside (put my bins away thankfully) think the next few hours are going to be the worse here, we are near a red warning!

drybird · 18/02/2022 08:49

Really picking up here in south east coast of Kent 😳 and now a red warning. I'm right on the edge and it's howling.

newnameforthehousehunt · 18/02/2022 08:54

We’ve been advised our bins are still coming to be collected but to take them in ASAP afterwards I wish they’d hurry up and come, it’s whipping up a bit more here now…

Sowhatifiam · 18/02/2022 09:40

To all the Fylde coasters @ofwarren @Louisianagumbo @ohidoliketobe

It’s really weird, isn’t it? It was as windy as it normally is an hour ago. I got my son up and we did what we could do secure stuff in the garden and I moved the car onto the road (as am my neighbours had and I didn’t want to be left out!). But now it’s just a breeze? What is going on?! And have you seen the forecast for Sunday?!

boogiewithasuitcase · 18/02/2022 09:53

Good luck to everyone today and thank you for these threads OYBBK.

tapdancingmum · 18/02/2022 09:55

I looked at my barometer last night and it's droped quite a way. Will be keeping an eye on it to see if it drops any further. Sun shining here in Bucks at the moment but can see the trees moving. Think it's time to go and put the bird feeder down Smile

RIPWalter · 18/02/2022 10:02

Still really calm in North Wales with the occasionally sleet/hail shower.

Morning school run certainly wouldn't have been an issue if the schools had stayed open.

@sowhatifiam I know! The weather report doesn't show it improving after the storm here does it!

I think we are looking at the winds picking up again at lunchtime according to the met office. I've let the cats out for a wee while they can and have brought them back in.
It's getting darker now.

sleaf · 18/02/2022 10:10

Scary winds here in the SW, but the sun is shining brightly. Wind set to increase over the next hour or so.

Strawberry33 · 18/02/2022 10:11

Strong wind here in Kent but nothing extraordinary

Sowhatifiam · 18/02/2022 10:15

@ofwarren. Yes, it’s starting to shift. Literal calm before the storm. I let the dog out and he stood barking into the air for a couple of minutes. He’s now curled up in a ball on the sofa. Not looking forward to the next few hours. Or Sunday night/Monday morning!
