Storm Eunice

This thread covers the expected severe weather on Friday - named Storm Eunice by the met office. At the moment there is great uncertainty, so the met office have put out a very wide yellow weather warning. It looks likely that some regions within the warning area will see gusts of 60-70mph inland, with a small chances of inland gusts above 80mph. The storm also carries the potential for some blizzards, but again there is currently considerable uncertainty.

A separate thread exists for Storm Dudley which is expected Wednesday/Thursday.

Raining but calm in my bit of Northamptonshire

newnameforthehousehunt · 17/02/2022 23:52

So eerily quiet here in East Anglia. Quieter than it’s been in days. I had a word with my next door neighbour about his trampoline I hope he has taken notice of it Hmm

Stressed I am going lose my fence/shed/roof tomorrow and will have to ask for repairs from my landlord who hates repairing anything in this house…

Re: London - I posted this on one of the other threads, copying it to this one in case it helps people:

"I've been looking at the forecasts for London on various sites - this is a blend, but I don't know what lies behind the apps/sites so take these as indicative of when it's likely to be at its worst rather than closer prediction of what that's actually going to be

"Amber warning starts at 0300, but the winds don't really start picking up until 0800, and will be getting exciting (gusts over 55, peaking around 65) somewhere between 1000/1100 until about 1400, then calming (to gusts under 50) by about 1700. Staying windy, but not as dramatic (gusts 20-35) all of Saturday, similar (gusts 20-45) on both Sunday and Monday,

"So if you have to do anything in London tomorrow, get it done ideally by 1000, and definitely by 1100 and try to stay indoors for most of the rest of the day'

Please note as well that several train companies running in and out of London are saying not to travel by train at all tomorrow

@Fordian

Me too. Again, thanks to our 'amateur' experts, like OYBBK.

I think most of us are intelligent enough to understand that you are doing the best you can with the unpredictability. Analysing the models, understanding which over-, and under-predict. That's UK weather. Massive weather systems, howling off a huge ocean, colliding with a huge landmass outlier. Us.

I'm fighting the urge to go back downstairs now to panic bake a pasty

I realkymdo like the sound of panic baking!!

ChurchlightJane · 17/02/2022 23:54

@HemanOrSheRa

Ha! ChurchlightJane Grin. It's a family trait of preparing food for emergencies. My sister is doing similar right now too Grin. Our Mum was the same!

Sunseasun · 17/02/2022 23:56

I can hear a bit of something in Bodmin.

Furries · 17/02/2022 23:56

North East Essex - seems very calm out there which feels odd after “normal” wind on and off the last couple of days.

Good luck to those in the SW for the early hours of tomorrow - really hope those in the red zone get through it ok.

Hopefully, here, we’re only getting around 70mph gusts!

Off to get some sleep. If nothing else, I need to prepare for a day of being shouted at by the cat as he hates wind and the weather is obviously all my fault.

GlacindaTheTroll · 17/02/2022 23:59

I can hear a bit of something in Bodmin

Sounds beastly

Motorina · 18/02/2022 00:02

It's surreal. I've just been out in the garden with the dog and it's dead calm. I'm looking at the ash trees at the bottom of the garden. Nothing's moving. Not even the tips of the branches. And wondering which of them will still be there this time tomorrow...

SparkleWhale · 18/02/2022 00:03

Eerily calm in coastal South Wales right now. Neighbours have a metal shed door that's been banging for days. Nothing tonight.

We're on a red warning and DH has work at 9am so I'm hoping he can get in fine as hell just stay indoors until 4pm. I work from home right next to the window in the lounge so I'll see most of it throughout my day undoubtedly. Just hoping we all stay safe.

LegArmpits · 18/02/2022 00:03

Barry Island - not a whiff. Am drunk though. Happy Blow Day GrinConfused

Feministwoman · 18/02/2022 00:08

Monmouth/FoD ish here, v quiet and still
Have horrible headache and joint aches.
Put stuff in barn, moved anything that could blow away inside, moved chickens into coop in barn, done livestock.
Prepped generator, just in case power goes off (need power for milking tomorrow)
Have gas stove on standby for cooking etc.
Dogs and cats all sorted.

Worried though about adult children who are deep in red zone.

Stay safe, everyone.

Vaccine001 · 18/02/2022 00:09

Hardly any cars going up and down upon the busy road outside of my house in Birmingham. I wonder if the storm will hit us much as we never really have severe weather here.

Not sure how up to date this is kept, but very swirly Wine

Theimpossiblegirl · 18/02/2022 00:17

I've stayed up late and uploaded my online learning in case I have no power in the morning. Somerset coast. Still pretty quiet.
The calm before the storm.

ZittiEBuoni · 18/02/2022 00:17

Apart from that tornado tornado001!

HemanOrSheRa · 18/02/2022 00:19

@Sunseasun

I can hear a bit of something in Bodmin.
Something in the wood shed? Sorry.

SquirmOfEels Panic barking is actually very soothing! Obviously involves me shouting at DP and DS to GET OUT AND LEAVE ME. I AM GETTING PREPARED. While I bake, drink wine, have a crafty fag and talk to my sister Grin.

HemanOrSheRa · 18/02/2022 00:21

Barking? BAKING. Although there may be panic barking from the dogs later!

mudlarks · 18/02/2022 00:33

South Oxon here, and it's just started raining. Lightly. It's been dead calm most of the afternoon and all evening, very eerie. We lashed down the trampoline (didn't remove net though Sad ) and collapsed garden furniture to lie flat. A fence panel from the midweek wind has already come down so bugger that, I'll get it sorted next week when the rest have come down! Grin

I'm quite nervous though. Both DS's schools are open tomorrow despite predicted gusts of up to 73 mph. DS2's minibus route is on very wooded roads, some A and mostly B. DS1 goes to school across open fields in a double decker... (I mean the roads are in open fields, they don't go cross-country. I think.) Apparently they'll text by 7am tomorrow if closing but I really want to keep them home. Is that really pathetic and drama-llama of me?

Thanks for all the tips, I'm going to make myself a flask of tea for tomorrow, just in case. I'm desperately hoping for no power cut so I can watch the 6am curling! Grin

Would be the day I had planned to get my youngest's glasses fixed in Wimbledon! I'm guessing I should leave it 😩 (would be going on the tram.
SleepWalkingDoorSlammer · 18/02/2022 00:47

Also just gone to get my cat in (she ran out earlier, and loves a storm Hmm her favourite thing is to watch lightning!) she is in now. It's very quiet apart from the sound that you usually get from the birds in the morning! Quite strange.

OrangeSamphire · 18/02/2022 01:03

South east Cornwall coast, beachfront. Just woken by gusts. Sea roaring. The odd rattle of a window.

DramaAlpaca · 18/02/2022 01:13

West of Ireland here, and the wind has just picked up in the last hour exactly as predicted. It's already sounding quite wild out there.
