Bit of a wild few days in store. The met office have named the storm on Weds/Thurs as Storm Dudley, so forecasts and impacts will go in this thread for those two days.

I'm about to start a separate thread for Storm Eunice which covers Fridays weather.

Eunice is covered in this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weather/4481220-Storm-Eunice

Storm Dudley covers northern England, Northern Ireland and southern Scotland. Gusts of 70-80mph inland with some coastal gusts to around 90mph There is still uncertainty as to the location of the worst of the winds, but no doubt they will be especially unwelcome in parts of the NE.

Hi Tokyo!

FFS, another one? Has it actually been worse so far this year or am I just noticing it more because each storm annihilates a bit more of my fence?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/02/2022 13:24

I think you are noticing it more Bobbin. Sorry about your fence though.

Soubriquet · 14/02/2022 13:25

Just give him 35 presents and he will calm down Grin

Soubriquet · 14/02/2022 13:26

Or rather 40 as he got 37 last year Blush

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/02/2022 13:30

Grin It is hard to take it seriously isn't it!

Have the recent storms followed the same paths this year rather than being spread out?

It seems to have been better here this year so some poor sods are getting more than their fair share?

Thanks for the threads OYBBK. (Got to get this new phone trained into your name)

BlackeyedSusan · 14/02/2022 16:57

I see we are copping it on Friday though. Shit.

BlackeyedSusan · 14/02/2022 16:58

Especially as two of our family have very big dead trees at the back of their houses.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/02/2022 20:20

fridays weather is ---> www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weather/4481220-Storm-Eunice :)

I think I should have created a double storm thread!

For us on the south west coast of Scotland, it's Yellow/Amber/Yellow for winds. Yikes.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2022 07:58

Morning all. The met office warnings still look spot on for this storm, the amber region looks accurately placed. Peak gusts around very late Weds into the early hours Thursday. Gusts of 70-80mph in that core area, with perhaps some higher gusts of 90+mph over exposed hills and coasts.

I'll be back at lunch time to assess the latest warnings and charts.

OP posts:
FelicityPike · 15/02/2022 08:03

We’re forecast up to 100mph winds but they say probably around the 70-80 mark.
We’re on Amber but that may rise to Red. Starting my hatches prep today.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2022 08:21

That's not in the Met Office forecast Felicity. It is I guess, possible in the exposed areas, but I'd expect it to be very isolated if it were the case. Where are you seeing that?

I would be prepping for power cuts though.

I'm on holiday at the moment in North Yorkshire, until Friday. We are in a caravan park. I'm not sure if I should travel home early, the place isn't all that to be honest. I don't fancy being here if there's power cuts! Or travelling home in snow. There's not much to do in bad weather. Really not sure what to do

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2022 14:01

forgot I am only an amateur forecaster and I get concerned about people heeding my advice, if I then advise them incorrectly. So please read what I say as only one opinion rather than a definitive answer.
For what it is worth these are my thoughts - You are in the amber warning area for Wednesday night. There will probably be some travel and power supply disruption, within that amber area. I don't know how much though. I don't tend to think of N. Yorks as being very wooded, so that is something and the infrastructure against bad weather tends to be quite good.

Wednesday night will probably feel a bit scary in a caravan park, so it depends on your tolerance to scary wind sounds and hearing things go flying and how sheltered the caravan park is. Certainly you should not be anywhere other than the caravan by 3-4pm.

Friday - the snow is very very uncertain, but as most models show, if you then need to travel south to go home, depending on where you are, travel into the Midlands or further south could be pretty dangerous during the day time.

However some models still don't develop Eunice much at all, to there is still a chance it won't be nearly as bad as feared.

If it were me (and I have a high risk tolerance to winds outside of wooded areas) I'd wait until the met office warnings update late tomorrow morning and then decide whether to bail at that point, but I would only do that if I could safely complete my journey out of the amber area by 3pm.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2022 14:05

The met office have updated their weather warnings to slightly adjust the area of the amber warning for tomorrow and also to bring it forward some.

www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2022-02-16&details

This storm is easier to forecast than Friday's and so at the moment I expect this no to change too much. Some structural damage, trees down and power cuts are likely.

FourTeaFallOut · 15/02/2022 14:19

Is 3-4pm tomorrow when it will be at its worst of when it starts to pick up? My youngest gets completely rattled by the wind, I might need a battle plan if it is threatening to be wild at school run time.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2022 14:46

It's when it starts to get serious. The amber warning kicks in at 4pm, but the yellow warning starts at 3pm and there will be a bit of a build up. It looks like now the worst of the winds will be through the eastern side of the UK by around midnight, or into the early hours of Friday.
Remember the system is travelling from west to east, so if you are very east, there will be a delay compared to the west coast.

OP posts:
FourTeaFallOut · 15/02/2022 15:00

I'm in Teesside so we'll definitely getting some wind but we should benefit from the delay and it might not be too bad on the afternoon. Still, I might make sure I have the car. Thanks OYBBK

AchillesPoirot · 15/02/2022 15:25

I better make sure I have the camping stove and heater at the ready! Thank you!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2022 16:19

No problem at all.
