“Global warming nonsense”
Dat you Donald?

ElephantOfRisk · 01/01/2022 19:55

You regularly get things like that happen. I have memories on FB popping up where i've posted that it's 16 degrees at 9pm in mid December. I think that might be the same year that we had minus 14 a few weeks later.

Twillow · 01/01/2022 19:56
@froobie it's so freaky isn't it. I'm sure someone will try to claim that global warming nonsense.
What the actual fuck. What evidence do you need?
We've already crossed the line - so many floods, wildfires, icecap loss in the last couple of years. There are always exceptions but this is the new 'norm' and it's not looking good.

Littlewhiteballs · 01/01/2022 19:56

I took dc for a walk on the beach today and it was absolutely packed! Swimmers, surfers, body boarders and several people were barbecuing. It was like August except with more dry robes and wooly hats.

BoodleBug51 · 01/01/2022 19:57

I've been recovering from a nasty chest infection so today was my 1st time walking the dogs for about a week. Half way up the lane, I had to take my coat off and tie it round my waist and my snood came off pretty darned soon after.

We haven't used our log fire once this winter, and have barely touched the LPG in the tank. It's never right, and very worrying.

Claudethecat · 01/01/2022 19:58

@Benjispruce5

Not that warm here in U.K.. I still walked the dog in a jumper and coat albeit in done. I’m central.
Where in the UK are you? I am in South Wales and it is easily warm enough to sit outside right now and not be cold. I am cooking and have the windows and doors open because it is so warm.
OllyBJolly · 01/01/2022 19:58

It’s blowing a hoolie where we are (NW Scottish Highlands) and there are people out walking in shorts!

AnxiousWeirdo · 01/01/2022 19:59

It's a la niña this year, weather is always really odd when this is the case.

kookievee · 01/01/2022 19:59

Yes although on been 14degrees here.

DH has declared it cold and lit the fire and I'm dying.

sadpapercourtesan · 01/01/2022 19:59

YES I am sweating buckets. I keep opening the windows and DS keeps shutting them. Slept without any covers on last night and was still too hot.

Claudethecat · 01/01/2022 19:59

Sorry, just realised you said you are central, Benjispruce5.

Thissucksmonkeynuts · 01/01/2022 20:01

I got a load dry on the line today. I've pegged another out over night. Double reckless, risking the doom of New Years Day laundry and clean washing getting darked on.

1forAll74 · 01/01/2022 20:01

Saving on the heating bill. My three cats usually snooze by the radiator in my bedoom mid afternoon. They came to do so, looked at the radiator, and walked away in disgust.

Gonnagetgoing · 01/01/2022 20:02

A bit yes. Hardly had heating on.

I’m worried later in January or February it’ll be freezing and snowing.

ElephantOfRisk · 01/01/2022 20:02

to be fair, I'm north central Scotland and DS (now adult) lives in shorts and goes out walking in them whether it's plus 20 or peeing rain or freezing and snowing. He just doesn't feel the cold at all.

@1forAll74 that’s made me snigger!
fairylightsandwaxmelts · 01/01/2022 20:03

Yes, it's warm but we've always had odd stretches of warm days in winter. It's not a new thing.

Benjispruce5 · 01/01/2022 20:03

It s mild yes, not warm. We’ve got the windows open as DH has Covid but I can feel the chill.

Twillow · 01/01/2022 20:05

It's the climate change denial here that is freaking me out.

The ten hottest years on record have all been this century,
with the hottest of these being the last five years.

Benjispruce5 · 01/01/2022 20:07

Isn’t it always annoyingly mild at Christmas when you want to light your candles and fire , wear your Christmas jumper and the sun is splitting the trees and blinding you!

BettyfromBristol · 01/01/2022 20:08

Very mild here in middle England, have had windows open all day. It is freakish but I have a photo of the DC playing in the garden in February about 22 years ago, just in pants and t-shirts.

fizzypop100 · 01/01/2022 20:08

It will get colder again

Dottydozet · 01/01/2022 20:09

the climate change denial here that is freaking me out.

Me too. Terrifying isn't it.

I'm not sure most people realise that climate catastrophe (in Britain) is in their children's immediate futures, and their own. It's not in 1000 years. It's not even in 100 years.

But hey, all the climate scientists must be wrong, because Sally on mumsnet remembers that one time on Christmas day in 1974 it was also mild.

MadameMinimes · 01/01/2022 20:11

Climate change is absolutely real but a warm winter day in the U.K. Is not, by itself, a sign of climate change. As the climate crisis worsens winters in the U.K. are almost certainly going to get significantly colder, not warmer, as the Gulf Stream continues to weaken. Next week it could be -10 degrees and it would not make climate change any less worth worrying about. Our winters are not going to get milder as the climate crisis worsens.

Postdatedpandemic · 01/01/2022 20:11

Well it does not matter really, we get to save money on heating. We have water, we're all right Jack. Unlike the people in parts of Iran who have to fight crocodiles for ever decreasing water supplies, leading some of them to risk their lives to come and live somewhere comfortable and safe like here.
