@SpookyScarySkeletons

My DH and DDad wear shorts all year round. We are up north in the cold. No man wearing shorts would surprise me 😂
DH, DD & FIL seem to disapprove of trousers, coats, & warm clothing on principle. I think DH owns about 15 pairs of shorts but only 1 pair of trousers (jeans) which he didn't wear at all last year. We are up north too!

We keep bees and there were loads out today. It’s mid winter. Very confusing

Cocoabutterformula · 01/01/2022 19:17

Why on Earth are people 'freaking out'?

We live on a living planet, temperatures change. Nothing to feel 'weird' or 'freaked out' by.

Not quite sure where to start with this quite honestly Hmm

MollyQueenOfSocks · 01/01/2022 19:17

Looked out the window on Christmas day and my roses have bloomed into life. They are May/June bloomers usually, its very disconcerting.

godmum56 · 01/01/2022 19:20

Its weather, it happens.

Pixxie7 · 01/01/2022 19:20

For all of you predicting doom the last time it was as warm as this was a hundred years ago, so not a record.

On the news today they said this is the warmest New Year's Day for 100 years, but that 100 years ago the temperature of 15.5 was recorded in Bude which we have only just exceeded by a tiny bit today. So although it's a bit worrying it does mean it's not unheard of!

Cocoabutterformula · 01/01/2022 19:21

People claiming it was balmy 50 years ago, have you seen the graphs? The industrial revolution started man made warming and it's accelerating at a very alarming rate. There is literally no dispute anymore that the warming is caused primarily by mankind

Fritilleries · 01/01/2022 19:22

It's really upsetting me. My garden is all out of sorts. Bulbs coming through way too early. I feel physically sick. We're living through the death of the planet in real time.

Cocoabutterformula · 01/01/2022 19:23

If this thread is anything to go by and the other couple I've seen today I just despair. Trying to dilute or shut down the issue - nothing to see here - except there most definitely is

Georgyporky · 01/01/2022 19:23

Was the person in shorts a postman?
In my area, postmen (not women) seem to wear shorts all-year-round.
I don't think Royal Mail give them long trousers.

DillDanding · 01/01/2022 19:24

It's amazing.

We haven't lit our log burner once this Christmas and the heating has barely been on.

Cocoabutterformula · 01/01/2022 19:24

Fritilleries I'm with you. I've followed climatic change issues for over 40 years, the planet is beyond telling us we are in trouble, most people are just sticking their fingers in their ears and singing la la la

Cocoabutterformula · 01/01/2022 19:25

DillDanding

It's amazing.

In all that's insane do you really think that?? I'm just incredulous

logsonlogsoff · 01/01/2022 19:25

‘sorry but I think if that is all you have to worry about you are doing fine’

Is there anything more worrying than the death of the planet we live on?? Literally every scientist working on environmental issues globally are telling us the same thing -we’re are running out of time.

Cocoabutterformula · 01/01/2022 19:26

logsonlogsoff

Agree

Agree. I saw Don't Look Up and it's absolutely gutted me. I have a toddler and what the fecking hell will they grow up to witness??? How are people still having babies in the face of it all?
Covidworries · 01/01/2022 19:27

Eyes closed nothing to see here.... and dont look up

Postdatedpandemic · 01/01/2022 19:27

Global weirding, nothing to see, just don't look up

Christmas1988 · 01/01/2022 19:27

Where are you all living? It’s freezing here, I’ve had my big coat on and a cardigan over my dress!

sweetbellyhigh · 01/01/2022 19:27

@chooseyourusername

sorry but I think if that is all you have to worry about you are doing fine
There is no bigger emergency than climate change.

Climate change is not an opinion or observation, it's a fact.

YANBU People in the big house next door playing tennis on their court in their summer whites.
Tourists walking about in shorts and sandals. (men) Vicar (a woman) walking about in a floaty floral dress with bare legs. I still have my silk vest and woolly hat on - this can't last!
Pallisers · 01/01/2022 19:29

I'm in New England. We slept with the our window open last night. If we turn the gas fire on in the living room (no other heat on and we have a big house) it is too hot. I just went out and it is more like mild Irish winter weather than Northeast US january weather. We are afraid our bulbs might come up. We're fucked.

Cocoabutterformula · 01/01/2022 19:29

Christmas1988

Freezing? Literally? Where are you living?

It was 13-15 degrees over most of the UK today, that is most certainly not the definition of freezing ....
