Metmonkey are forecasting this for next week. We'll see ~ probably a bit early to say for certain whether this will happen or whether it'll just be cold and frosty.

ooh, I'm glad I stocked up on essentials!

CherryMonster · 18/11/2010 20:07

oooooooh

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/11/2010 07:34

Quite possibly. I was a little surprised at their confidence as the models are just starting to firm up over this.

if it comes off then next week, particularly the end of the week could be a bit of a shock for some.

mankyscotslass · 19/11/2010 09:28

I wonder if we will get it here! We only tend to get snow if its really really bad, normally we seem quite protected here, even though we are close to the Peak district.

petunia · 19/11/2010 20:16

Seem to be getting more certain about it in their update here.
I was just saying to DH though that there always seems to be a cold snap around the last week of November/first week December, so maybe this is the annual 'cold snap.'

And getting even more excited about it here!

It's my birthday at the end of November and I was born in a snowstorm and have had quite a few snowy birthdays. Can't wait :o

petunia · 20/11/2010 07:16

Ah there you go Alousieg. As I posted last night, if you've had quite a few snowy birthdays, surely it's some kind of pattern that we usually have a cold snap around this time of year.
Hope you get another Happy Snowy Birthday this year!

Ooh brilliant - I hope it happens! Nothing on the met office site though - do they like to hedge their bets?

petunia · 20/11/2010 07:29

I've found Metmonkey do tend to get in there early with forecasts. They tend to get a bit over-excited about things but I had a quick glance at the charts and think I can understand where they're getting this forecast of cold weather/snow from.

DD1 was born during a snowstorm in the first week of November.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 20/11/2010 07:38

snow next weekend would be fabulous - so long as it's not horrible on the Saturday evening - DS2's birthday and Christmas light switch on in town........

And it's not allowed to be horrid weather the following weekend

Alouiseg · 20/11/2010 07:46

My Dad has a Finnish Lapphund who adores the snow, he seeks out the coldest part of the house all year round anyway but when it snows he rushes around and frolics in it. He sits and watches it at the window for hours.

He also gets very twitchy in the hours leading up to snowfall so if he starts I shall be back to this thread to give you prior warning.

duckyfuzz · 20/11/2010 08:09

Met office also forecasting make for the east end of the week & next weekend, they are usually cautious!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/11/2010 08:53

There still is a good split between the models as to what will happen, so don't get too excited yet! Hilly areas do have an increasing chance of snow through the week. I am really not sure about lowland areas yet. I've had a good look at the models and there is marked difference between GFS, UKMO and ECMWF at the moment I am far from convinced that it will be a widespread snow fest - nobody could predict it from the models yet - all people can do is have a good guess.

However, if you live in the NE - particularly hilly parts, through to Yorkshire, then yes, I expect you will be having some snowy fun :)

Will continue to keep a good eye on this :)

onadietcokebreak · 20/11/2010 08:58

Looks like sw is escaping the worse. I do not want snow again

duckyfuzz · 20/11/2010 09:02

Looking forward to it kitten, I live on a higher than surrounding area part of co Durham, just to the east of the pennines, people at work (20 mins away) asked if I lived in narnia last year, such was the contrast in our weather!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/11/2010 09:13

:) you are one fortunate lady duckyfuzz!

delving a little deeper but completely entering into guessland, I think that after the weekend is when most of us should be showing an interest in what is going to happen....

siblingrivalry · 20/11/2010 09:38

I might live near you, Duckyfuzz. I have to send photos to my family half an hour away cos they don't believe me when I tell them how bad the snow is.

duckyfuzz · 20/11/2010 10:08

Ooooh where are you sr?
