The royal family

Do you think some of you are addicted to hating Harry and Meghan?

More and more these manic threads are popping up on mumsnet, wild posts and theories and then hundreds of posts brimming with excitement about catching them out or exposing them. It’s like a game or a hunt. Have many of you crossed the line from interested to addicted?

The last link was one of many nice threads about Harry and Meghan. Maybe you should try and resurrect them if you feel there’s not enough positive threads about H&M.

Thank you, I’ll have a look. No, I don’t want to resurrect them. I’m just interested in people
saying that they exist when I appear to have missed them!

Just to clarify because posters always quote this incorrectly as a gotcha.
justine never said posters were “deranged “ , as if she would insult her own posters publicly!

what she actually said was “ the discussion around h and m gets a bit deranged at times “

so the “ discussion “ not posters and she also never specifically stated whether that was criticism or fans discussions .

so let’s not keep peddling false narratives shall we?

Thank you Jeff for clarifying

The discussion is posted by the users. It’s a sort of get out technicality to call the discussion deranged as opposed to the people themselves. It’s like when people think there’s a big difference between calling a child’s behaviour naughty rather than the child themselves naughty. And if we’re using technicalities and picking apart languages then OP hasn’t accused anyone of being addicted, she has just posed the question which is ‘technically’ different. People have still chosen to be offended though.

My point was that if MNHQ uses words like deranged, they are probably not going to have a problem with the OP of this thread using the word addicted or others using the word obsessed.

FenellaFeldman · 12/05/2025 09:35

@jeffgoldblum thank you so much for clarifying that. As if Justine would be so offensive to a particular group of posters! I thought it was odd and a bit offensive!

There is a world of difference between saying a child’s behaviour is occasionally slightly naughty and calling a child naughty!
mothers know this!
One statement acknowledges that occasionally a child will be naughty .
the other labels the child as naughty completely!
do you not see this?

I’m still hoping someone will link to a thread that is “gushing” about H&M!

There used to be regular ones gushing about Meghan's clothes and jewellery. They seem to have disappeared along with many of the posters on those threads. While there are still some very invested die-hards, I think many people eventually found the doings of Meghan and Harry more and more indefensible.

jeffgoldblum · 12/05/2025 09:43

I would also point out that the title of this thread is “ do some of you think you are addicted to hating Meghan and Harry”
despite my thoughts on the reasons behind this post , the op phrased it as a general question, had she actually titled it “ the posters here are addicts, obsessed with hating Harry and Meghan “ that would be a statement and would probably been removed!

IDipYouDipWeDip · 12/05/2025 09:44

But the thread has remained up, as have posts on it which use words like addicted and obsessed.

Maybe, but other posts on this thread and other threads have called posters addicted and obsessed and they are still there. Maybe they’ve just not been reported? Maybe mumsnet allow it? Maybe mumsnet moderation is inconsistent?

You will note that general posts that are questioning are still there , posts specifically calling actual posters addicts and deranged have been deleted!
I should not have to explain to people the difference between a general ( even if it’s rather offensive) questioning comment and a pointed one !
one is classed as a personal attack the other isn’t!

its the difference between saying that women’s behaviour can sometimes be bitchy and actually calling a woman a bitch!

Yes, but I also know that people who want to call a child a naughty little brat, but can’t because it’s not seen as acceptable, say things like ‘their behaviour is naughty’. People have called the posters on this board names like deranged, obsessed, unhinged etc, so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to think that is what Justine also might think, but is being diplomatic by talking about the “discussion” being deranged rather than the posters. It all brings people to the site so it’s a win win for mumsnet.

No !
you are arguing semantics now , grasping at straws to enable you to insult posters with the authorisation from mn , it is against guidelines, mn don’t agree that one demographic of posters are deranged and another are allowed to breach guidelines to insult them !

There are also certain people (not necessarily anyone on this thread) that in the past have positively gushed about Meghan, referring to her as Princess Meghan in an effort to goad 🤷🏼‍♀️ I only remember this as I remember correcting and stating if they wanted to refer to her as a princess to use her actual title of Princess Henry or her Nigerian title of Adetokunbo. There are some proper nutters on the Royal board on both sides, fortunately most of them get deleted (present company excluded of course 🤣🥰).

Yes!
People do this to be able to say it., like OP has probably worded it as a question to get away with it, but still, a lot of posters have taken it as an insult because they’ve assumed she is calling them addicted rather than asking the question. People get around the rules.

BTW, Justine didn’t specify which side of the discussion was deranged, she could have meant the Meghan defenders/lovers.

If posters are posting 60 times a day about one topic, my opinion is that they are addicted to posting.

Advanced search would show that not to be true though!

jeffgoldblum · 12/05/2025 10:06

Anyway as much as I enjoy a debate I actually have things to do , enjoy!

Reallyhowisthatthecase333 · 12/05/2025 10:08

For once I can agree with you jeffgoldblum

about the difficulty of moderating this board. It must be a bit of a nightmare for MN HQ to put it mildly! Not an easy task at all!

I’m glad that the thread has been left to stand though. I think it was a legitimate question to ask. And it has allowed people with an alternative view to the majority on the RF threads, to have their say,

I understand why they are still wanting it removed though.

If words such as addicted and obsessed do not apply though, as has been argued strongly on this thread, then there is no need for anyone to be offended.

And there is a wider anthropological question to be debated about why so many people appear to be interested in royalty in general and H& M in particular, about what they do, say, and wear etc. And how much time people spend commenting about them. And how the different factions are almost tribal! I find that interesting.

I don't know why anyone would do a search on a person and count up how many times they post on a particular thread? Why does it matter?
