Catch a grip, he won't be doing that personally!

If I wasn't stuck with PAYE, I'd like to pay as little tax as possible too.

Are you a billionaire who simultaneously pays as little tax as you can possibly get away with and also bangs on about homelessness, the environment, food banks etc, with little apparent understanding that these things need money to resolve- money from tax that you don't really like paying?
Constitutional Monarchists should want the RF to do better than this. If in a generation ot two, they do so little that apathy render them completely irrelevant, they will disappear. Defending every single thing they do, overpricing, pretending they work harder than anyone else in the UK is not doing them any favours.

Edited to say: this was meant to be a response to mainecooncatonahottinroof but quote function didn’t work:

I disagree very much with this.

I absolutely love the “nothing to see, move along” narrative from royalists about Andrew!

There is still plenty to discover about Andrew
and his Chinese “friend”! And also where he is getting his current funding from? How is he affording to live in Royal Lodge?

Also, the AL book will be out soon!

Imagine the furore there would have been from all of the truly gruesome royal reporters like Richard Eden (what a fine outstanding chap he is not) and all of the ardent monarchists on Mumsnet, if Harry had allowed a foreign national, probably a spy, who was deemed to be a potential threat to national security, to get close to BP or Windsor Castle!

Edited

That is absolutely not true. No one ever has taken that attitude over Andrew ever.

NewAgeNewMe · 16/04/2025 18:41

A constitutional monarchist could be like me, waiting to see if we have a viable alternative.

I’m not against a republic ( I used to be, goodness only knows why), but I want it properly thought out, not the way Brexit was handled which I think has been a bit lot of a disaster.

I don’t want get rid of them/shoot them as that won’t help us have a well thought out republic.

The way I view the royals at the moment are as figureheads/civil servants, albeit extremely well paid.

Taken from the article I linked

The book is full of "extraordinary revelations" and reveals the extent to which Andrew and Fergie’s lives are still entwined. Lownie draws on four years of research, numerous FOI requests and interviews with more than 100 people who have never spoken before. He traces the lives of the the Duke and his ex-wife through their childhoods, courtship, marriage, divorce, careers and royal and charitable activities.
The synopsis continues: "Investigating the reality of their relationship, it assesses Andrew’s Falklands record, his business dealings and reveals new details of how the couple have been able to financially sustain their extravagant lifestyles. It also delves deeper into his links with Jeffrey Epstein, which began earlier, continued longer and were much more frequent than reported."

I will be very interested to read about how they sustain their extravagent lifestyles and of course, the links with Epstein which were prolific by both of them.

Yes I am very interested in reading this too!

I very much doubt somehow that it will be dissected in quite such voracious detail as Spare and spun in a thousand which ways, seeing as Andrew is still in the royal fold, but maybe the Daily Mail and others will surprise us!

I certainly hope so!

Richard Eden will be ordering his new kitchen cabinets no doubt! 😀

Depends how much the Palace are prepared to hang Andrew out to dry and on how much Andrew’s behaviour casts worrying shadows over the rest of the RF, particularly in relation to finances!

Will it lead to questions like; how do Sophie and Edward afford the upkeep of a £30 million pound mansion, how much is that upkeep, does it come out of the Sovereign Grant, and is that upkeep justified for the work they do, which is a lot less demanding say than your average gp?

It will be interesting to see how the Palace PR handle it anyway. No doubt they are already having strategy meetings about it!

To be fair Harry told so many lies in his “book”
of course it was going to be picked apart.

I have had it said to me on this thread at least twice by posters answering the thread title!

Apparently Andrew is boring, doesn’t do much, isn’t controversial, which is why all of the sm and press attention is on H&M.

I stand by my view that those reasons are rather disingenuous and are wearing a little thin.

Well, Her Late Majesty did!

I think Munnygirl was talking about these threads - as the whole point of the thread was why are there more H&M threads than Andrew.

Noone here defends Andrew - the only way a thread like this has filled up so fast is that it's diverted several times off topic.

Now when the book comes out and there's new material to discuss then maybe there will be more about the Yorks.

The reason the H&M threads take off is a combination of how many things they have done recently with the posts from their supporters doing back and forth with their critics. Add in the republican posters who veer between supporting H&M as potential disrupters of the monarchy and criticising H&M's obvious desire to still be royal adjacent, then you get a lot of posts flying back and forth.

They royal machine played it well. Look over there. They have been in this game forever. Many people are stupid. It's how they have survived so long.

Absolutely this.

TulipTiptoer · 16/04/2025 19:10

It has been said continually and forever. Like.... Everyone thinks he's awful so why are there threads about him when we all agree, so there's no point in posting about him. He keeps his head down, no need to comment on him etc.

Such apathy when he has done so much damage. I bet Charles will be having kittens about what will be in this book.

No mumsnetter can tell other mumsnetters what they can and can't start threads on. And all threads veer here and there at times.

grammar

Well, someone did describe him as a “poor bastard” who had paid his dues several times over. So there’s that.

Mylovelygreendress · 16/04/2025 19:12

I think he is an arrogant , unpleasant , dishonest oaf who is an embarrassment to the RF and country .
Anyone disagree ?

I agree with the 'bastard' bit. Not the 'poor' bit! Somehow or other he's managed to conjure up mega bucks to do up his royal pile and keep it on, much to Charles's chagrin

It is quite clear that some posters are genuine Republicans while other posters (e.g. "complicated cancer narrative") are an extension of Sussex PR engaged with extensive whataboutism.

I am not sure how anyone who lived through the Brexit debacle can believe that the top priority for this Parliament which is facing socio-economic and security challenges not seen since the 1930s...is to devote valuable Parliamentary time to becoming a Republic.

And being a Republic is not an automatic pass to political paradise...as we see from volatile politics in countries such as France, Germany, Italy and the USA.

Nah I just can't get myself into a froth over something I have no power over. I prefer to deal with the things I can.

And don't exaggerate. It undermines your point.

What do you want from your post? Of course we agree with you, does that mean he can't be discussed? And you will see from my previous post current articles. One about the city of York wanting him to drop his title, and one about the forthcoming book and what is likely to be in it.

Given there's a thread about a possible Spare 2 (not confirmed whereas the Andrew Lownie book IS confirmed) I think it is quite feasible to carry on talking about it if we want

It seems to me some posters want there to be just one villain.... Harry. And the fact there is one still protected by the royal family makes posters uneasy!

I have started a new thread. Sorry can’t do a link as don’t know how to on my phone

BigWillyLittleTodger · 16/04/2025 19:19

What is the solution to the Andrew problem? He could have all his titles removed by Government and KC3, even the Prince title could be removed and he could become plain old Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, get the bailiffs in to chuck him out of Royal Lodge and move him to Nottingham Cottage? I know most want him in Strangeways but that is pretty unlikely so what is the solution?

Don't get ahead of yourself. There is nothing to see yet. We don't know what is going to be in the book. Why don't we wait and see what it says? I very much doubt there's going to be anything positive in there, and I am sure the pair of them are shitting themselves. If there's evidence of wrongdoing then that will have to be dealt with. I subscribe to evidence in advance of condemnation, I'm old fashioned like that.

How do you know who Harry did or did not bring somewhere he shouldn't have?
