Royals at Remembrance events 2024

I don't like her look tonight, heavy makeup and hair unnatural. What was she thinking?

I think she was going for a bit of glamour that’s all

I'm watching the Festival of Remembrance live on the BBC. Not an occasion about the royals and how they look, and BBC coverage is rightly focused elsewhere. It's really sad if people's views on this weekend's events are just about fashion, or pursuing an argument for or against the royal family.

It takes a while for skin to recover following chemo ) mine did anyway ) . Maybe she just wanted to look her best ?

Maybe she was feeling well and wanted to put lots of effort in while showing respect for the situation and not showing up scruffy

She was going to be in a relatively low lit place for most of the evening, bar bring in super bright light and having people see her from a distance. That's pretty much stage conditions, so strong makeup stops her appearing washed out. Totally normal really. And in the photo, the left one looks pretty normal, glamorous evening makeup. It's only when it's zoomed in that it looks heavy.

She’s been poorly and recovering from chemotherapy. Maybe she had a bit of a glow up to give herself a confidence boost after feeling like shit for the past few months? Maybe she’s trying to hide some of the effects of her chemo? It’s not like she’s wearing a Barbie pink mini skirt and boob tube to a Remembrance Day parade, is it? What an odd thing to get upset about.

I love her hair. I have genuine hair envy right now.

The Royals have always looked solemn at Remembrance occasions,
What struck me this year is that they looked sad as well, notably the Princess of Wales, the King and the Princess Royal

I was shocked how gaunt William looked.

And on another topic, who was that singer murdering ‘Great is Thy Faithfulness’?

I thought she looked fine. Perhaps a bit more blusher than usual. But probably just to avoid the papers saying she looked pale.

Her hair is amazing

I didn't see it but generally any singer from any secular tradition ruins any sacred music. See Abide With Me at every FA Cup Final and Bryn Terfel at the coronation. Just dreadful.

I know it's a terribly old-fashioned opinion but I do think long hair starts to look a bit silly on anyone as they get older and I include her (and myself!) in that age bracket.

It is old fashioned - there is no need for anyone to get their hair cut because of their age. 😂

Apparently Camilla is out of action due to a chest infection so won't be at any of the events.

It's an incredibly old fashioned idea. I think women should wear their hair in whatever style they feel best for them.

As a 53yo woman I will keep my hair long and curly thanks.

I thought Tom Jones was good - voice still strong, and he must have be the same age of older than the Chelsea Pensioners!

Strength of voice and age of singer is immaterial. If the style is wrong it's wrong. I'm sure Tom Jones would be perfectly capable of singing a hymn appropriately but if he sang it like a pop song it won't have sounded right.

As I say I haven't watched this event and dont know the particulars but anyone with only secular training performing a piece of sacred music nearly always sounds bad.

Oh that's interesting. I think this, too, but I was beginning to wonder if I'd just made it up.

Nope. It's just a preference. I'm not claiming any logic or rationality. I just think she looks a bit silly.
