It's an incredibly old fashioned idea. I think women should wear their hair in whatever style they feel best for them.

As a 53yo woman I will keep my hair long and curly thanks.

I'm 52 and my hair is the longest it has even been. None of this cut your hair as a short and sides now you're over 35 crap.

Maybe she was thinking this is an important event for the country which I want to attend. She would know that she would be picked apart by people who say. " she doesn't look like she has had cancer", " she didn't really have cancer" or " she only had pre cancerous cells". I would hate to live in these people's bitter worlds.

Which is exactly what is being said by the squad on Twitter ! So much nastiness .

Ascanonthr · 10/11/2024 14:55

Great to see her out

GetrudeCoppard · 10/11/2024 14:57

I think it’s hard to stop wearing your hair long if it’s your crowning glory. And I really don’t think you should cut your hair just because you’re older.

I am known for my hair. It’s long and thick and naturally forms loose ringlets. Someone I haven’t seen since I was 23 got in touch with me recently and the first thing she mentioned was my flipping hair. I’d be scared to cut it short. Plus there’s so much of it, I’d look ridiculous.

Kate’s hair is one of her best features, she absolutely should keep it long for as long as she wants. It’s also really versatile for her show pony role. She can wear it so many ways.

mpsw · 10/11/2024 15:02

I can’t identify two of the people in the Royal box.

There’s the King, the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Princess Royal and Sir Tim, Duke of Kent and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. Plus two others - are they Kent/Gloucester eldest sons?

Out if interest why does it look “silly” Jane Seymour (sticking with the royal theme) is 73 in this picture and for the life of me I can’t think why someone would think she looked silly, let alone Catherine who is 30 years younger.

I honestly think Jane Seymour bathes in virgins blood/has a picture in an attic somewhere/both. She looks absolutely amazing and if she's had surgery, it is extraordinary.

Re long hair-you can put it up and it is easier to style with a variety of hats, which Kate pretty much has to use as workwear. It is nice to see her out again.

They might be equerries, like Major Hottie who just got engaged? (Sorry, Major Hottie. I have forgotten your name. It might start with J? Is it Johnny?)

Yes. Johnny

GetrudeCoppard · 10/11/2024 15:25

Jane Seymour does look fantastic, as does Jaclyn Smith (an original Charlie’s Angel). Both in their 70s with long hair.

blobby10 · 10/11/2024 15:34

I would love to know what the Royals (and the rest of the audience tbh) think about the absolute murdering of the wonderful hymn 'Great is Thy Faithfulness' last night - the singer didn't even know the bloody words and was singing so slowly it was painful. To give them their due, the band appeared to try and speed him up but he wasn't having any of it! Made me very cross as its a hymn that sounds wonderful with a bit of welly and is also one of my favourites. Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer was also butchered although not quite as badly (in my humble opinion Grin)

OSU · 10/11/2024 15:41

Quite a few mean spirited comments on here. Would love to have Kate's hair. She's changed the shape of her eyebrows too. She looked lovely today and yesterday. I actually thought at the Cenotaph today that Edward looked really well.

Bignanna · 10/11/2024 15:54

Long hair on older women is fine if it’s not thin and straggly as so often happens as you age. The long hair drags the features down and accentuates jowls, hence so many women with pixie cuts, because they’re manageable and keeps hair from looking flat. If you have thick, curly hair when you get older, you’re so lucky!

She’s incredible isn’t she? I know she has more than likely had work, but it’s excellent work and she just looks beautiful.

i was shocked at how exhausted Kate looked today, quite concerning to me

Thank You. The hair and the makeup divert from her exhaustion.

Port1aCastis · 10/11/2024 16:34

I'm no fan of Kate, however the woman had or has cancer and went through hell so I'll not bitch about her hair or her appearance as I wouldn't want to be in her shoes, living in a gold fish bowl while receiving cancer treatment cannot be easy I hope she is doing well and good on her for appearing in front of the media and the whole bloody circus while recovering from horrible illness

angstridden2 · 10/11/2024 16:34

I think she has aged (as have we all) and treatment has taken its toll on her. Strangely though when she smiles she looks much the same as she did in her teens in school pics!

How do you think she would look after the year she's had though?

LINDAHOAD · 10/11/2024 16:44

heavy eye make up looks awful and the hair not suited to a woman over 40 years - makes her look older - less is more

We have already established that there is no “age” for any hairstyle. If it suits you, age is not relevant. The same for clothes. If something suits you then why shouldn’t you wear it no matter your age? If you look like a dogs dinner then don’t wear it, even if you fit the so called “age profile” that some seem to have have decided it is appropriate for

Yes quite, there is always lots of nastiness on twitter and on here regardless sof who in the rf it is about including the non working ones.

AllLopsided · 10/11/2024 17:07

@DappledThings we are off topic with this and I didn't hear the Remembrance concert either but I don't really understand your comment:

"I didn't see it but generally any singer from any secular tradition ruins any sacred music. See Abide With Me at every FA Cup Final and Bryn Terfel at the coronation. Just dreadful."

Most classical singers have careers in both opera and concert, and probably some chamber music (song) as well. This is reflected in their training. Many are equally good in concerts, singing masses and requiems and other religious-or semi-religious themed works (eg The Creation, Messiah, The Dream of Gerontius, L'enfance du Christ) as they are in opera and secular song (Schubert, Wolf, Fauré, Quilter, Vaughan Williams, etc). Some of these started their musical lives as choristers and/or (later on) professional singers in cathedrals or bigger churches/chapels with a strong tradition of sung services. I can't remember what Bryn Terfel sang at the Coronation but he is a prime example of a singer who is equally good in opera and concert. I agree with you about Abide with me though (which is originally a congregational hymn, not meant to be sung as a solo anyway).

Why not? Maybe she felt like being there. You don’t have to be 100% fighting for to feel like joining in with a bit of normality. It’s good for you sanity. My DH is wheelchair bound and will never recover full health but he still
like to go out now and again even though it is a huge logistical nightmare. Are you saying he shouldn’t 🤷‍♀️

MyEarringsAreGreen · 10/11/2024 17:19

I think Kate is absolutely beautiful so lovely to see her back. She did look very pale with heavy bags under her eyes today - not being horrible, she's had an awful time and few eye bags are the least of her worries, obviously
