Interesting that the people who feel long hair looks ‘silly’ on older women are also the ones thinking other women expressing opinions are engaging in hyperbole, ‘OTT’ etc.

It’s almost as if the misogyny is quite ingrained.

But I’m a silly hysterical woman,
so I would come out with such stupid hyperbole.

Is it OK to say I have always thought she looks better with her hair up? She has a lovely neck and her head is poised beautifully and a chignon shows that off so well.

Itoldyousoo · 12/11/2024 13:12

I'm nearly 70 and am lucky to be blessed with long and luxuriant hair. It's great for my tiaras but also looks great flowing out of my double bobble hat. Even a consultant doctor said to me once how lovely my hair was. It often gets looked at by men who I think love a bit of a hair curtain 😂😂😂

I like her up do’s as well, some of them are so intricate, her hairdresser is very talented.

Although a throw back picture I have never had so much hair envy as when I saw this picture, life just isn’t fair 😂

This is the length that I think she’d look good with for the later 40s

Beautiful hair and face.

As for the 'silly' comment it just feels unkind and insensitive to make that about anyone recovering from cancer. I wouldn't say or write it.

It's an opinion based on observation. Much like every other comment on this thread, including your own.

What a charming, supportive, sensitive, empathetic little opinion it is too.

Possibly keep these kind of opinions to yourself in future?

Funny when people are mystified about where the idea that an older woman shouldn’t have long hair comes from - or thinking that it’s ’just their opinion’ or that it just ‘looks silly’…..

None of us lives or forms opinions in a vacuum and this is a well-known, tired misogynist trope. That’s where it comes from. That’s why it ‘looks silly’. Because you’ve swallowed the misogyny for decades.

She wears her hair this way because she likes it, and if she doesn’t like it anymore she’ll change it.

Can You for one second imagine the furore if Kate changes her hair? It's OK. I suspect it may be enhanced, whatever. It's up to her. But a change? no, not an option.

blobby10 · 12/11/2024 15:58

I thought the slightly shorter length with fringe really suited her - she announced one of her pregnancies just after she had it done. It really framed her face nicely and looked lovely. However if I had the glorious, well coloured and healthy looking long mane that she currently sports, I don't think I would cut it either! Having the same style for years hasn't done Princess Anne any harm and if it was a short pixie cut she wouldn't be able to sport the variety of styles she wears.

Prince Edward has aged badly. He's only a couple of years older than me but looks at least a dozen years older.

I think he’s lost weight in the last couple of years. That doesn’t help in later life.

Now that's misogyny in action. The idea that she's so entirely defined by her hair that lopping a few inches off it would be a news story at all let alone a furore. If that is actually true, that anyone would care enough to be upset that she's had a haircut then the people making that fuss are being far more offensive that my throwaway observation that I think her hair is a bit too long and would look better, i.e. not a "bit silly" if she got a chunk chopped off.

I think the poster meant that if Catherine cut her hair now, people would think it would be because of the effects of the chemo. Or surmise that she has been wearing a wig and it be a whole ‘thing. They would say she wasn’t being authentic/honest or trying to garner sympathy etc. But that’s just my observation of what was being said. I’m sure the poster will correct me if I’m wrong.

Ah maybe. It certainly might bring all the conspiracy theorists out again who were insistent earlier she was already dead and other such insanity. But there's no point accounting for the mad ramblings of such people.

BasiliskStare · 20/11/2024 14:42

I do think that photo which @wordler posted is a very good length on her , seems to give her a lift , and also long enough for an "up do " I just think she has quite a long face and body and sometmies - not always just very long hair can seem like (as my granny would say) a yard of pump water.

BUT BUT BUT - it is her choice . I am sure she would not fully endorse my hair cut 😁
