I have to admit, it's been pleasant to see how enjoyable all three threads have been to read.

Mylovelygreendress · 06/12/2023 09:44

I agree @thebellagio . Just interesting discussions.

I am reading that “ sources close to the Sussexes” have said that H and M did receive a Save the Date from the Duke of Grosvenor but declined to attend.
Interesting that they can swiftly react to certain stories but totally silent about Scobie.

I thought the same. How can they react to such a fluff piece, yet absolute silence over the racism accusations

Lockupyourbiscuits · 06/12/2023 09:46

They also have invaded the grooms privacy by providing these details

miri1985 · 06/12/2023 09:48

I don't understand how these two things can be true and both come from H&M

  1. They would welcome an invitation to visit over Christmas or to Balmoral
  2. Its too awkward to even be at the same wedding in 5 months

Personally if I hadn't done anything wrong, I would have no qualms about going to the wedding of someone who apparently is close enough to them that they named him Godfather of their first child.

JSMill · 06/12/2023 09:52

There was no save the date card! The fact they have found it necessary to address this suggests they are embarrassed. It's another sign of their declining status.

thebellagio · 06/12/2023 09:53

Thats a good point @miri1985

Unless they thought they would get a reconciliation but now realise that Scobie going rogue and releasing that book has now destroyed any potential for a reunion?

We all know that William will NEVER forgive the attacks on Kate in the last few weeks

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 06/12/2023 09:55

It’s always possible to disinvite someone between sending out save the date cards and proper invitations. Seen it on here.

Lockupyourbiscuits · 06/12/2023 09:55

On the subject of security
If they were given state security they would be swanning about the U.K. continuing to undermine and spread bile against the Monarchy wherever or whenever they choose

We also don’t need a repeat of having to fund any jaunts abroad like the Canada trip

They can be contained by only agreeing security for certain events

The fact remains they do not represent this country and so should not be entitled to taxpayer funded expenses

exactly!

I find it quite funny that this thread is lasting longer than the interest in the actual book.

Currently sat at 215 in the Amazon book charts...and it isn't even number 1 in the sub section of historical biographies.

Well quite

It's all a bit of a muddle, isn't it?

Upshot is same however in that they won't be there, either at Sandringham or for the wedding, reinforcing distance from both Britain and the royal family

Any news on how their Miss Havisham or Meet Me At The Lake? I can vaguely remember something being said v recently about how M in particular was v excited as there would be something to share soon, and I was wondering if it was this

This thread is more interesting (and its contributors more eloquent) than the actual book

I read that sample chapter, and didn't really take to the prose style (that's just personal preference, I thought it didn't flow)

And the content was stuff that a lot of British people just know, so it's v clear the target readership is not the UK.

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 06/12/2023 10:03

If I was Duke of Westminster their briefing of the media that they had declined to stop things being awkward would be all the proof I'd needed to be happy with my choice.

They couldn't just maintain dignified silence they had to make it all about them, and try and spin it as them being magnanimous.

“Any news on how their Miss Havisham or Meet Me At The Lake? I can vaguely remember something being said v recently about how M in particular was v excited as there would be something to share soon, and I was wondering if it was this”

Is anyone actually expecting anything to come of these ?

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 06/12/2023 10:04

Has anyone got a copy of the article where they both said (when pregnant with Archie) that they were only going to have one child due to the impact on climate change.

At the time it seemed a dig at W&K but I can't find it

Whilst Spare was the most dumped book of the summer and the most traded in, at £2.40 a pop.

Prince Harry’s book Spare is most traded-in biography of the year

It may have been a bestseller, breaking the Guinness World Record for the fastest selling non-fiction book of all time, but Prince Harry’s autobiography Spare has now reached a new, rather less salubrious milestone.

That's really not good manners though - we see it on here and it's condemned.

STDs only to that subsection of guests who you would be really upset it they can't come (or who would have v complex travel arrangements).

But for truly posh weddings, I suspect no actual stationery is involved, rather the key people are just told when it'll be happening and that an invitation will arrive idc.

exactly!

Indeed- and is quite typical of H&M. They go off half-cocked and shoot themselves in the foot from simply by (repeatedly) failing to think more than one step ahead of anything they say and do.

They didn't say that - they said only two for the sake of the planet. And yes, there were three little Cambridges at the time they said it

I'll see if I can find it
