People would be afraid they were being recorded or videoed.

And the Westminsters presumably don't want a RF face-off after a few champagnes at what's meant to be a happy occasion.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/12/2023 13:04

Inviting them to any wedding would make most guests feel uncomfortable, I'd imagine

Looking at the expressions of those seated around them at the funeral and jublilee I'd have to agree, but it doesn't alter the fact that we don't actually know what's gone down this time

The publisher pays the author an advance to fund (or part fund) the process of writing the book. The author gets the advance upfront, but then doesn’t receive any royalty payments until the value of those royalty payments have paid back the value of the advance.

So, say your advance is £1000 and you receive £1 in royalties per book sold, you need to sell 1000 books before you start to recieve £1 per book as profit.

The value of a advance is carefully calculated by the publisher as if they don’t make much money from book sales, their profit may be jeopardised. I think it unlikely they’d try to get it back from an author though if the book doesn’t sell enough to earn it back.

Edited

You don’t pay back unearned advances.

It doesn’t exactly predispose publishers in your favour for future projects though.

One by one, since getting together with Meghan, he's either openly attacked and alienated, or just backed away from everyone who used to be important to him. It's him and Meghan against the world. Him and this woman who had already fallen out with her own entire family (bar her mother), and now he's in the same position.

Harry had good relationships and friends it seems prior to all this, certainly people he served with have spoken warmly about him and he spent a lot of time with W&K.

If that situation was on the relationships board I'd be hanging out the 🚩🚩🚩, alienation of a partner is text book to some personality types.

Thanks @Serenster

Can't imagine that they would have turned down a chance to go to Hugh Grosvenor's wedding.

Kate looks fab in the pink dress.
Love that she is wearing Diana's favourite tiara.

I would imagine M wouldn't be keen. Apparently she wasn't too keen on H's friends anyway and I would anticipate she'd get a frosty reception from them if she ever met them. I don't think we will see M in the UK again. She will milk her royal connections from California.

If the H&M were the other sex respectively, the relationship board would tell H to run.
The total alienation from family and friends, playing the constant victim, etc.

Did she not lecture some of H’s friends about some of their views when she first met them ?

I reckon the wedding thing went a bit like this: groom texts Harry to arrange a time they can chat. Harry says yah yah yah, so busy but I’ll be in the car at x o clock, call me then. They speak, groom says a modern version of something like “look old chap, sure you know I’m getting hitched, terribly awkward situation. Mama and granny insist we have his majesty and Camilla, and obvs need to have Willy too - for the children, you see. You know how it is. We’d love to have you and Meghan, and obviously I haven’t even ever met your children yet and am desperately keen to, but well I’m sure you understand that in the current climate the press would have a field day - bloody buggers. Bride is pretty stressed as it is, and we just want to avoid a whole circus. No royal wedding for us old chap! So I’m sure you’d understand if we just kept media intrusion to an absolute minimum, as private a wedding as possible. We’d love to have you all over for a yoga weekend of avocado toast and chocolate milkshakes once we’re back from honeymoon. Thanks man, you’re doing the right thing”.

To H&M this basically reads like “they wanted to have us there but we graciously said we’d stay away, for their sake, given how high profile we are and the armed security we’d need.” And pretty sure they’d be thinking it’s all everyone else’s fault they couldn’t go!

Do posh people even send STD postcards? Somehow I doubt it.

I didn’t and I like to think I’m super posh. 🤣

I’m sorry but aristocratic old school weddings do not have anything as ‘vulgar’ as ‘save the date’ cards 😂
but presumably they have some way of letting the important guests know when it's going to be?

Probably the traditional way of just sending out invitations. Save the date cards are relatively new are they not? I've only ever received one & that was this year

True-I was thinking of possible connections.

But you're probably right that if she doesn't intend to be in UK again...

I wonder what Harry's friend thought of her?

BreadInCaptivity · 06/12/2023 13:48

I read that advising them is impossible, they only listen to each other. So they will hire experts, go into a meeting, and only listen to each other. Convincing each other they are right, a folie a deux

We given we are not privy to their business dealings it's impossible to conclude this with any certainty, but it is a very plausible explanation for the highly variable quality of their PR and Content output.

I do get a sense that they are a couple determined to march to the beat of their own drum, wilfully oblivious to the fact they are out of time with the music.

This sounds entirely plausible.

TodayInahurry · 06/12/2023 13:52

They don’t want them at the wedding, most of the guests won’t want them (her) there because they will be ear wagging/recording people’s conversations and reporting them in the press. They are totally untrustworthy.

@RecoIIectionsMayVary I think thats the genuine sad thing about the entire situation. He hasn't just fallen out with his family, he seems to have alienated almost everyone except Eugenie. I wonder what Beatrice thinks? and Zara and Mike (I bet Mike has some epic thoughts about the situation...)

But also the press - many of the royal photographers have openly stated how he used to go to the bar with them after engagements, buy them drinks and generally have a positive attitude, but then it all changed overnight.

The best revenge for anyone is to live well, and be happy.

Can anyone say that H&M look happy?

saffronsoup · 06/12/2023 14:03

I don’t think either H or M feel embarrassed by any of this. I think they feel victimized, misunderstood, unfairly treated etc. I don’t think they interpret any of these situations through a lens of embarrassment. They just feel wronged.

It was Tom Bower in Revenge - the story was that Meghan met a load of Harry's friends at a shooting weekend, and finding their views sexist challenged everyone whose views didn't align with her own, leading to a load of comments of "WTF", "How about her" and so on

True or not? Who knows ...

That's the hing. Everyone they encounter from now on is going to wonder if the are fodder for an upcoming book, "documentary," podcast or lawsuit. They must be social pariahs for that reason alone.

Add in the fact that they clearly don't care about invading other people's privacy, and not even give them the dignity of advance warning (e.g. Harry's virginity). No one would ever trust them with anything at all, beyond "how are you?"

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 06/12/2023 14:15

But apparently he is Archies godparent (I'm sure I read that) so passed her tests originally.

Plus, this is the Society wedding of the year, they need relevance to sell their brand.

I agree with you, I really don’t think it is something they feel they are responsible for. I read that Covid, the writers strike, and that rhey didn’t expect the streamers to keep refusing their content, for it to be so hard, is why they have failed to launch.

I suspect there is truth in this, particularly they didnf understand how hard if was to create content.

i just can’t grasp why anyone thought they were capable. She’s a soap actress, who got lucky with one part on a show that was syndicated, and had a blog, and he has limited skills at all. Why anyone thought they would be capable of creating content is beyond me.

thing is the streamers would have created rhe content for them if they were good to work with and kept a good name. But they became so contentious and rumoured to be impossible to work with, constant delays and changes, unreasonable demands, work shy. That no one wants to deal with them. So the streamers don’t want to create content and put their name to it.

christ it was rumoured Megan didn’t even bother doing most of her podcasts, she did the big famous ones, then got someone else to do the rest and dubbed her voice in. How disrespectful is that.

I suspect the 'content' Netflix wanted them to 'create' was royal.

They got these deals before the Oprah interview, when they might have been able to claim they still had some sort of 'in' with the royals. Netflix might have been expecting behind the scenes glimpses at royal events, maybe even interviews with some family members. That would probably have been a ratings success, as their own 'documentary' was. I really don't think Netflix had much interest in them 'producing' dull documentaries or dramas, if they ever come to fruition at all.
