That Independent article - what a load of bollocks.

Crazycrazylady · 06/12/2023 11:43

Honestly it's all a-bit embarrassing these days for them. What they reply to
And what they don't . They just make themselves seem so petty.
Who on earth have they got advising them. I think for me that ridiculous demand for videos and photos after the fake car chase leading to that absolutely cutting humiliating response taking the absolute pee out of him was probably a the stupidest thing he did.
How did his team not see that coming..

Lockupyourbiscuits · 06/12/2023 09:46

They also have invaded the grooms privacy by providing these details

They don't have any dignity, do they? 'well we WERE invited but we weren't going ANYWAY, so ner ner ner ner ner ner.'

It would be interesting as a counter factual to imagine Harry as a Harriet. I would bet my mortgage that if Harry had been a girl and a younger sister to William absolutely none of this spare resentment etc would be playing out now.

Agreed. Look at what a support Anne is to Charles! She seems to have no ego whatsoever, just gets on with the job, accepts her role in the RF, makes the best of it, has a fulfilling private life, no fuss, no drama and no tell-all biographies.

SkyFullofStars1975 · 06/12/2023 11:47

They both must spend their entire days withered and twisted with resentment and plotting how to throw more shit at people. It must be exhausting being them.

mrsmingleton · 06/12/2023 11:59

@SkyFullofStars1975 this is what I was thinking. I almost feel sorry for them.

ArcaneWireless · 06/12/2023 12:01

I hope to Christ this wasn’t from them - imagine getting pissy enough to respond to a piece about the lack of a wedding invite but keeping your traps shut regarding contemptuous gobshitery about your family?

Shameful.

cheezncrackers · 06/12/2023 12:09

What's really sad is that this wedding invitation malarkey and the snippy response (seemingly from M&H) underline, yet again, how estranged Harry has become not only from his entire family, but from his friends too. One by one, since getting together with Meghan, he's either openly attacked and alienated, or just backed away from everyone who used to be important to him. It's him and Meghan against the world. Him and this woman who had already fallen out with her own entire family (bar her mother), and now he's in the same position. The pair of them are utterly toxic.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 06/12/2023 12:14

Back to the book - haven't watched this yet but am reliably informed it's very funny.

And that's some shade from Valentine Low.

I read that advising them is impossible, they only listen to each other. So they will hire experts, go into a meeting, and only listen to each other. Convincing each other they are right, a folie a deux.

megan signed with Venus Williams agency awhile ago, surprised nothing has come of that, although I do recognise it when they handle their pr.as it is done well. You also know when harry and Megan have done it, like the wedding thing, or the high speed pap chase that never was, as it’s always ill advised and a bit cringe.

ArcaneWireless · 06/12/2023 12:15

They both need to go and sit on that bench she wrote about and take time to think on.

Bitterness is unbecoming.

Silence when you should be piping up is a disgrace.

Singingseals · 06/12/2023 12:20

Apologies if it’s already been covered on other threads, but what’s the US reaction to / opinion of this book and its allegations?

cyclamenqueen · 06/12/2023 12:21

I’m sorry but aristocratic old school weddings do not have anything as ‘vulgar’ as ‘save the date’ cards 😂

but presumably they have some way of letting the important guests know when it's going to be?

Exactly. Grievance and victimhood has become their way of life.

Why they think anyone wants the opinion, advice or advocacy after they've botched their own lives so drastically, is beyond me.

On the subject of security
If they were given state security they would be swanning about the U.K. continuing to undermine and spread bile against the Monarchy wherever or whenever they choose

We also don’t need a repeat of having to fund any jaunts abroad like the Canada trip

They can be contained by only agreeing security for certain events

The fact remains they do not represent this country and so should not be entitled to taxpayer funded expenses

Exactly this. It would be intolerable to observe this and know that the tax payer is funding it. I’m pretty supportive of the royals, but THAT I couldn’t stomach. Frankly I think this whole debacle around security is far more likely to bring about a serious drop in support for the monarchy than any other of the petty behaviours and whining from that pair of chumps.

PopNotPolitics · 06/12/2023 12:35

Inviting them to any wedding would make most guests feel uncomfortable, I'd imagine. Any and every conversation can be twisted in meaning by those two to the point that I would just nod and smile around them. People want to let their hair down at weddings, not be on their guard.

Mylovelygreendress · 06/12/2023 12:35

I am reading that Endgame sold fewer than 6500 copies in the first week . Can I ask anyone who knows more about publishing than me , what happens to an author’s advance ( which presumably Scobie received) if the book simply doesn’t sell ?

mrsmingleton · 06/12/2023 12:36

The guests would be moving the place cards so they didn't have to sit beside them!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/12/2023 12:43

thebellagio · 06/12/2023 09:46

Interesting that they can swiftly react to certain stories but totally silent about Scobie.

I thought the same. How can they react to such a fluff piece, yet absolute silence over the racism accusations

It's true that they've not reacted publicly to the Scobie trash, but how are we supposed to know that they refused an invitation to the wedding, or even that it was issued in the first place?

The bride and groom aren't saying, and isn't it obvious by now that "a source" can just as easily mean the media have made it up for clickbait?

cyclamenqueen · 06/12/2023 12:51

but presumably they have some way of letting the important guests know when it's going to be?

in my experience the extended families will just ‘let it be known’ . All the people invited will be so interlinked anyway that the key people will be consulted in the planing , after all it’s not like ,with the groom being the Kings godson and the reception being at home , they have to compete for venues. Hugh’s older sister is married to one of the Van Cutsem brothers, his second sister is married to Dan Snow the TV historian. His mother was descended from the Russian royal family etc etc

diddl · 06/12/2023 12:54

Can't imagine that they would have turned down a chance to go to Hugh Grosvenor's wedding.

Kate looks fab in the pink dress.
Love that she is wearing Diana's favourite tiara.

The publisher pays the author an advance to fund (or part fund) the process of writing the book. The author gets the advance upfront, but then doesn’t receive any royalty payments until the value of those royalty payments have paid back the value of the advance.

So, say your advance is £1000 and you receive £1 in royalties per book sold, you need to sell 1000 books before you start to recieve £1 per book as profit.

The value of a advance is carefully calculated by the publisher as if they don’t make much money from book sales, their profit may be jeopardised. I think it unlikely they’d try to get it back from an author though if the book doesn’t sell enough to earn it back.

I can’t answer, I guess it depends on the contract. But it is very clear this book is being panned widely as complete crap so can’t see it taking off.

I watched the sky Australia review of it a pp linked, and they ripped the shit out of it, garbage, catastrophe, crap, lightweight, being some of the words used .

They are very clear though they think harry, and more particularly Megan are the ones behind it, and that scobie is just their mouthpiece, he’s just the face of it. It’s their book. If they are right, it explains why harry and Megan are silent.

but yes it looks like the book is a badly written dud, just more garbage.

People would be afraid they were being recorded or videoed.
