What happened to just call me Harry? Why would they want their children to be burdened with titles?

“When reached by PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: "I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor."

She is a princess.

Well, the current Letters Patent mean that all DGC of the monarch in the male line are Prince/ss

For U18s, it's the parents choice how the DC are actually styled - Andrew chose HRH Princess, Edward went for non-HRH titles from his Earldom.

I doubt anyone would want to pre-empt the parents wishes in this.

The King has had plenty of time to issue new LPs had he wished to see a change.

Has this choice been reported elsewhere?

I think in the case of Edwards children they can take on the styling of Princess/Prince when they reach maturity and decide for themselves.

Yes, that is correct - not just for Edward's DC, but all of them. So if they decide that they just was to be plain "Mrs Kent" then that's fine.

It's parents' choice for U 18s, and own choice when of age

(Just had a pop up saying SKY are running the christening story, so I expect it'll explode across tabloids shortly)

purpledalmation · 08/03/2023 12:38

With Charles now king, she is officially a princess. Gross hypocrisy to use the title in California but to be expected from Harry and Meghan whose entitlement knows no bounds.

I doubt the title will be used around California though because it's just laughable that celebrities and commentators will be calling her princess lillibet. Will sound absurd.

Pretty much to be expected coming from a woman who declared the royal family didn't own the term 'royal'. Well neither does she having stepped back from royal duties and it was just a merching tool. Let's see if they can merchandise their little prince and princess.

FlowerTink · 08/03/2023 12:38

Sky news are now reporting it

smilesy · 08/03/2023 12:39

Are they using “Prince” for Archie as well then🤔

It would be pretty shitty of them if they didn't, as he's covered by the existing LPs to exactly the same extent

sydneysunset · 08/03/2023 12:43

Oh dear I’m cringing for them 😂😂

SenecaFallsRedux · 08/03/2023 12:45

I really expected King Charles to issue new Letters Patent, but there are complications, such as de-princessing Beatrice and Eugenie, although he could "grandfather" them in, I suppose.

jeffgoldblum · 08/03/2023 12:46

Well this will at least clear up some of the things wrongly said on Oprah!
No titles due to skin colour instead of the truth that Charles wasn't king yet.
No security without titles, obviously still no security with them! .

Hooklander · 08/03/2023 12:46

They'll be expecting people to bow and curtsey to their kids next. And I'm not even joking.

LakeTiticaca · 08/03/2023 12:46

So much for wanting out of the family who supposedly treated them so badly

purpledalmation · 08/03/2023 12:46

It's laughable in America to parade children around as prince and princess. Harry and Meghan are tone deaf with bells on. It's a republic guys, American children don't have titles.

It's all about $$$$$

Hooklander · 08/03/2023 12:47

Absolutely pitiful.

I think he'll just ignore the whole thing. It's obvious H&M are making fools of themselves again.

No one has to bow or curtsy to anyone, but Harry's children are HRHs and a prince and princess. Therefore, if you subscribe to that etiquette then yes it's correct to bow and curtsy to them.

If you're going to have a royal family you don't get to choose who's in it. They're in it. They're literally entitled.

vera99 · 08/03/2023 12:49

We are all Prince's and Princesses' it's just the Royal "my ancestors killed and thieved better than yours" Family nicked these made up titles as well. Bloody cheeky Germans !

I wonder was is it in the works and the Sussexes got wind of it and now if new LP are issued they can make it into a "thing".

IMHO theres no way William lets them keep the titles when he takes over so you'll then have a case where the kids (probably young adults if Charles lives as long as his parents) then have the titles stripped and feel deprived like the Danish Princes children

Top comment on the Telegraph’s article:

”Katie Price also calls her daughter Princess. Just saying…”

😂😂😂

mateysmum · 08/03/2023 12:50

I'm sure it was a happy occasion attended by all the family on both sides.

Oh Wait.......

I bet pretty much everyone she meets as she grows up will think that Princess is her first name and will call her that - which will please mama.

I honestly think the opportunity was missed over 20 years ago. The change should have been made at the time of Edward's wedding - either to include his future children or for all born after that. Clearly QEII didn't want to change it.

Perhaps if relations hadn't soured Charles would have been able to do it amicably with Harry's blessing. But it would surely be a PR disaster at this stage, he would look incredibly petty.

Theunamedcat · 08/03/2023 12:51

It's meaningless in America especially
