What happened to just call me Harry? Why would they want their children to be burdened with titles?

“When reached by PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: "I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor."

I think they actually call her Lili, which begs the question why not just name her Lily??

I'll give it to Meg, she knocked that one out of the park and I'm sure many rf members would be kicking themselves thinking why they didn't use that name. Most probably thought it sacred but Meghan said nope, I'm going to one-up everyone and give my daughter the private name of the Queen. None of this Elizabeth crap that everyone else has. We're going all in.🤣

She can't be Lily when she's Lilibet. It has to be known this is theeee name.

Serenster · 08/03/2023 13:25

“Little girls dream of being princesses. I, for one, was all about She-Ra, Princess of Power…Grown women seem to retain this childhood fantasy. Just look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and endless conversation about Princess Kate.”

Meghan’s post on The Tig hasn’t aged well, has it…

BarrelOfOtters · 08/03/2023 13:25

I wonder if they really thought all this through…that no parents were at christening because of all the hoo hah. It’s sad.

Oh dear I’m cringing for them 😂😂

Fill your boots.
The rest of MN has been cringing for you lot for years now.

Genevieva · 08/03/2023 13:26

@JenniferBarkley A lot of people think that, but it is not how Letters Patent work. I can't be bothered to explain why - it is a rather technical and boring area of law and I happen to think the whole thing is a meaningless house of cards anyway - but legally they are not 'Prince' or 'Princess' unless and until King Charles specifically declares them as such. When the Royal Family website changes then they will have officially have use of the titles.

Top comment on the Telegraph’s article:

”Katie Price also calls her daughter Princess. Just saying…”

😂😂😂

😂😂

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 08/03/2023 13:26

Now the Queen has gone it needs to stop here too

There's no obligation to bow or curtsey to a royal if you don't want to and hasn't been for years. (Source - mate who works at BP and has regular contact with the RF).

Harry and Meghan made their choices, but the children deserve to be recognised as members of the RF, because they are. It's their birthright and I'm sure the parents didn't want to take that away from them, and it's not their right to do so, no matter how they may have chosen to live. It's probably Harry's way of keeping the family connections for his children, whatever his own relationship with them may be.

I'm sure the children's mental health will be fine, growing up with (some) freedom and privacy, unlike Harry's experience.

I think it's pretty shitty that not one of the crap four made an effort to come, yet they expect Harry to jump when he's called for the big Corona thingy.

I do not think either Harry and Meghan are mentally stable so I don’t think these children are growing up in a very healthy environment. I think where both parents are estranged from their own families it would be difficult to come to the conclusion that everything is rosey in the garden at home I’m afraid.

Apparently when it's certain royals it's not racist to sneer at someone's supposed ethnicity and descent.

And the "German" thing comes from Prince Albert. The current king's great great great grandfather. One of 32 of them. 4 of my ggg grandparents were Irish. This does not make me Irish.

The "Germans" thing is most definitely used by lazy people as an insult. It's never "bunch of Greeks" which is possible more accurate, given Philip's background.

One would have hoped that the intermarriage of European Royals would have prevented the mass slaughter of folks in WW1 but no, lest we forget the Kaiser was the cousin of Queen Victoria. Forgive me if I don't fawn.

Just as children can take their surnames from their father, so sovereigns normally take the name of their 'House' from their father. For this reason, Queen Victoria's eldest son Edward VII belonged to the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (the family name of his father Prince Albert). Edward VII's son George V became the second king of that dynasty when he succeeded to the throne in 1910.

In 1917, there was a radical change, when George V specifically adopted Windsor, not only as the name of the 'House' or dynasty, but also as the surname of his family. The family name was changed as a result of anti-German feeling during the First World War, and the name Windsor was adopted after the Castle of the same name.

Prince Philip was actually far more German (ethnicity-wise) than he was Greek. But, I agree with the point that the PP was making.

Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3, by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor

I’m sure the bishop will be bemused by the upgrade. Perhaps they’ll knight Tyler Perry whilst they’re about it…

Or his change of denomination? The actual Archbishop of Los Angeles is Roman Catholic.

Genevieva · 08/03/2023 13:27

The Royal Family website hasn't changed: www.royal.uk/succession

Serenster · 08/03/2023 13:27

Archie and Lili became a prince and princess automatically the moment QEII died. The only news today is that their parents have apparently decided they will use the titles.

That’s not even telling half the story, though! There’s a whole load of relevant context we’re apparently expected to pretend never happened, then?

GiesAGonkYaDobber · 08/03/2023 13:27

Cringe away cherub.

I care not for hypocrites.

thebellagio · 08/03/2023 13:28

Didn't half of their battle with the press start from their refusal to publicise who Archie's godparents were? So it's interesting they are happy for Tyler Perry to be publicly known as Lili's godfather...

I always thought they picked fights with the media for no reason. In all honesty, they could have just announced the godparents details and lived a happy life. If one of the godparents preferred to remain private, they could have said "in line with their wishes, we are remaining discreet...." but instead, they threw a strop and picked a fight with the press over the godparents for no apparant reason which I'm convinced is half of the catalyst for everything else that happened afterwards

OutOfChocolate · 08/03/2023 13:28

Harry always said he did not care about a title for himself, but it is up to his children to make their own decision if they do not want to use it. They are a prince and princess.

Having an archbishop christen her too - absolutely having their cake and eating it!

Do they even go to church?

You seriously think any of them would go after he's trashed them far and wide? I bet they are hoping he doesn't go to the Coronation but they've invited him because the optics of not wouldn't be good.

Again, it's baffling they want their kids to be part of an institution they claim drove at least one of them to the brink of suicide.

TBF from 1714 all monarchs had spouses from German states so you can see people's thinking here. But as George V changed the RF name from Saxe Coburg Gotha to Windsor during WW1 and effectively cut ties with all the German connections, you'd expect people to have caught up by now.

LanaDelRabies · 08/03/2023 13:02

I mean, she is a princess. H&M renounced their own titles but that doesn't make their children any the less a prince or princess.

That aside, imagine coming onto a thread on a parenting forum to be nasty and judgy about a baby. Not to mention all the childish, sneery comments about people you don't know. It's not surprising they left the country with people like you lot judging their every move.

It's also funny how those who claim that H&M are trashy and vulgar are always the ones who carry on like audience members on the Jeremy Kyle show whenever H&M (and even their children) are mentioned. And you have the brass neck to call them undignified. Oh, the irony.

I so agree with your post. Very well said @LanaDelRabies

The best thing they every did was leaving. And even when they are quiet (like Meghan was for 3 months) it doesn't stop.

Yes. The irony is not lost on me.

OutOfChocolate · 08/03/2023 13:29

@thebellagio Tyler Perry told the press he was godfather. It should be his choice. We do not know who the other godparents are.

Really? I've never heard that before, genuinely interested if you can point me in the right direction.

Completely with you on the meaningless house of cards bit, but it is all so mad I find it quite interesting (and as someone who isn't British get to avoid any moral conflict in that Grin ).

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 08/03/2023 13:30

I don’t understand what they are gaining by this.

They are already a laughing stock in the US, wonder what they make of the Chris Rock show.

MarshaMelrose · 08/03/2023 13:30

It's not that she's a princess, it's the fact they've instructed their press office to use the title princess when referring to her. Just like when Meghan rings anyone, she uses the title Duchess. It smacks of desperation that they want to condemn the family but cling onto the privileges of it. Even though Harry is a prince, for some reason, maybe because they say they want to be free and inconspicuous in America, it sounds strangely vulgar.

stillavid · 08/03/2023 13:30

I don't think anyone could have expected Kate to have gone to the christening and didn't Tyler Perry say he didn't want to see the RF?

As for the titles, who cares really? All titles are insane in my opinion. It is interesting though how the RF website doesn't refer to Archie and Lili as Prince or Princess.
